A debate should tell the audience what they need to know and not just what the speakers think. If you feel the same way, then we want to meet you. Debate London is the year-round series of free public debates held weekly at venues across the capital. The series is run by Debate London, a social enterprise that helps its members to advance their personal and professional development by teaching them how to debate. After presenting the point of view assigned to them, the audience are then given the floor to cross-examine them and share their own position. The only time we hear what the speakers really think is at the end of the debate when they tell us where they really stand and whether this changed at all while learning how to defend the perspective assigned to them. **After Debate Social** After all of our debates we have a post debate hang-out. This is a chance for our community to get to know new people, explore new ideas and generally have more fun as a club! Social volleyball session in Putney for mixed players over two hours. Please note this is for intermediate level players and above. We are delighted to be invited back to play at Putney High School again. This session takes place in their amazing sports hall with excellent facilities and high roof. If arriving early, please wait outside the sports hall until the session start time, as it is in use by the school immediately before. Also, food and drink are not permitted in the hall. Come along, have fun, and improve your game! We operate a subsciption model per half term for regular players with non-refundable payment for subscribers up front for six sessions. A few slots are available for other players for £18.00 via Paypal or Revolut (links below). **Looking at how debates work, when they're most appropriate, and where to start if you are preparing to speak in one for the first time.** This workshop will provide an overview of the **3Ps** * Philosophy * Position and some basic techniques for combining them to build a case in defence of your position. The day will begin with a masterclass, in which you will be broken up into small groups to work on a series of exercises, so you can get comfortable speaking in front of each other before you are asked to speak in front of the rest of the room. No one will be required to speak in front of the room until they feel ready to do so. After lunch will be dedicated to a mock debate, which will serve as a rehearsal for the upcoming public debate on the same topic.
