**[Constellations ](https://www.harringtonmatchmaking.com/constellations-membership)Patio Social + community lore activity** in Arlington, Virginia.
This will be a relaxed patio social for neurodivergent adults (most will be 20s/30s) focused on conversation and meeting new people through a low-key activity.
Participate in our “Community Lore” activity — a social scavenger hunt-style game designed to make mingling feel easier and spark better conversation. Before the event, attendees will submit a few fun facts, unusual skills, niche interests, and/or random details about themselves. We use these anonymous submissions to create the activity cards.
When guests arrive, anyone who wants to participate will receive a card featuring fun facts submitted by other attendees. As you mingle throughout the evening, you’ll try to figure out which person matches each item on your card.
We’ll have reserved patio seating, casual games, complimentary appetizers, and drinks available for the group.
Alcoholic beverages and additional food or entrees can be purchased individually.
While we do have reserved patio seating, this may not be the best fit for individuals who are highly sensitive to noise or busy environments.

First Friday Discussion - Morality and Meta-Ethics
I encourage everyone to bring food/drink to share. We'll socialize until about 8:30. The plan is to meet outside.
### **The Dark Side of Moral Progress: Are We Just Finding New People to Hate?**
* **The Idea:** As society evolves and becomes more socially conscious, older prejudices are rightfully condemned. However, evolutionary psychology suggests that the human impulse for moral superiority, out-group shaming, and tribal scapegoating remains entirely unchanged.
* **The Debate:** Has moral progress actually reduced hatred, or has it simply shifted the target? Are we just replacing old, unacceptable bigotries with new, socially sanctioned forms of vitriol, allowing people to satisfy their psychological urge to punish others while feeling morally pure?
**The Luxury of Morality: Is Ethics a Privilege of the Secure?**
* **The Idea:** We place immense social and philosophical pressure on individuals to act ethically and selflessly. However, looking through a sociological lens, ethical behavior is highly correlated with stability—when resources are scarce and survival is threatened, human psychology defaults to ruthless self-interest.
* **The Debate:** Is lecturing struggling or marginalized populations on morality a form of classist gaslighting? Should we view high ethical standards not as a universal duty, but as a luxury asset that only those with economic and psychological security can afford to practice?
**Moral Luck: The Unfairness of Ethical Judgment**
* **The Normative Ethical Concept:** We generally believe people should only be judged for things under their control. Yet, philosopher Bernard Williams introduced the concept of "Moral Luck." Imagine two drunk drivers: one drives home safely through pure luck; the other hits a pedestrian who stepped into the street. One gets a traffic ticket; the other gets a prison sentence for vehicular manslaughter.
* **The Debate:** Their *intent* and *choice* were identical, yet we judge and punish them completely differently based on random external factors. If our moral status is heavily dictated by luck (including the luck of where we were born, our genetics, and the situations we encounter), does the entire concept of personal moral accountability collapse?

Firefly Foundations Class: The Elements
It's June, and we have one class left in the Firefly Foundations class series meant to provide students the opportunity to learn about the House and about our way of being Pagan. If you've been with us from the beginning, well done!
For the seventh and final class of the series, we'll be talking about the elements. We've mentioned them a few other times, especially when talking about quarter calls and during our class on magic, but this time we're going to dive into them with a bit more detail and discus a bit about the history of how the classical Greek elements ended up in our strange mashup of British folkways and ceremonial magic.
When you RSVP for this class, you'll be asked to provide an email address. We'll send you a link to the class video at that address as soon as possible after we receive it. We keep won't share your email with anyone ever. Watch the video before the class date and time, and come to class with any questions you might have. During the class session, we'll be going over anything from the video you wanted to review, anything from the class series as a whole that you might want to go over again, and we'll do a bit of a show-and-tell about the various tools and toys that you might see crop up from time to time during House events, especially since so many of them are connected to the elements in some way or another.
If you're comfortable with it, join us at the MLK Memorial Library. The exact room is TBD, but we'll update it once the room is reserved. Masks will be welcomed, but not provided, for in-person attendees. We will also have the necessary technology to allow folks to join in online via Google Meet if you prefer to attend remotely. Video conferencing information will be sent out the morning of the event. If you're connecting that way, please give us a few minutes past 3:30pm to get the stream online.
This class is a part of our [foundations class series](https://docs.google.com/document/d/18-tA9ewEm1YEvY26jlWq07F2DT_-_HKwd-_wnl0l84g/edit?usp=sharing), which is only required if you wish to join the Firefly House as an initiate. If that does not interest you, then feel free to skip classes that you find less important for your journey. If you want to keep your options open with respect to initiation but cannot attend this session at the listed date and time, please contact the event host prior to the session. Keep in mind, you can only miss two of seven sessions in this way. Time spent with initiates of the House and your fellow classmates is an important part of knowing if you want to initiate. If you don't initiate, regardless of the reason, you're still welcome to all of the public events we organize.
If you would like to, feel free to [join our Discord](https://discord.gg/RrS9XNzf9X) to chat with others in the Firefly House between sessions. This is also a great place to ask for help if you've lost a link to a video, for example.
\*\*\*
The Firefly House seeks to provide a friendly, safe environment in which all participants can engage in productive dialogue, sharing, and learning with each other in an atmosphere of mutual respect. We are committed to providing a harassment-free environment for all, regardless of gender identity or expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body type, race, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), or technology choices. If you have any questions regarding this event, please contact the host.
Fairfax Bible Study MeetUp (FBSM) This Saturday - Come Join Us!
Hello Everybody!
Join us this Saturday at 11 AM at the Fairfax Wegmans as we continue our Bible study and discussions.
Recently, we've been studying the "types" (patterns or pictures) of Jesus in the Old Testament in chronological order starting with creation. We will go all the way to David as a type of Jesus the King.
As anyone who's attended before knows, we have open discussions. Our goal is always to grow in our love, knowledge, and relationship with Jesus and to have fellowship.
We invite the presence of the Holy Spirit as we meet together and we've had some great conversations and revelations. Please join us as we continue our Bible study and prayers.
God bless you all,
Mihail
