The Great American State Fair
This epic event will run for two weeks, I want to create a MeetUp giving others, like myself, a way to meet new friends and get out there for any day you have available. Each day will be a duplicate event, giving everyone the ability to sign up for the day they have free. I will not be at every event as I work three days a week, but I will put in the messages the days I'll be there. The Metro Smithsonian is a great place to meet since it's right at one of the two entrances. The only two entrances are at 12th and 4th and Jefferson. If you want to go to one or several of the days just hit the attend and message those who are also planning on attending that day. You can coordinate the times as well. Let's make new friends and experience the 250 anniversary of our country.

Fairfax Bible Study MeetUp (FBSM) This Saturday - Come Join Us!
Hello Everybody!
Join us this Saturday at 11 AM at the Fairfax Wegmans as we continue our Bible study and discussions.
Recently, we've been studying the "types" (patterns or pictures) of Jesus in the Old Testament in chronological order starting with creation. We will go all the way to David as a type of Jesus the King.
As anyone who's attended before knows, we have open discussions. Our goal is always to grow in our love, knowledge, and relationship with Jesus and to have fellowship.
We invite the presence of the Holy Spirit as we meet together and we've had some great conversations and revelations. Please join us as we continue our Bible study and prayers.
God bless you all,
Mihail
Fairfax Home Board Game Fun!
Welcome to the Fairfax Home Board Game Group. I have been running this group for 3+ years, every other Saturday. The group has evolved since I first started, so I thought I should update the description to more closely describe how it runs today.
This group is hosted at my home in Fairfax and primarily plays hosted games, meaning a player owns the game and will teach others at the table how to play. Below are some tips for a great first visit and what to expect.
***
**Tips for the Best Experience for Newcomers**
1. Check the event messages periodically, and more frequently as the event gets closer. If you see someone hosting a game you are interested in, respond to the post to reserve a space.
2. Watch a "how to play" video for the game you want to play. While the host will teach the game at the table, coming prepared will make for a better experience. Most hosts will post a link to a "how to play" video in their initial post. If you want to host a game feel free to post in the event and see if there is interest!
3. Arrive on time. Games tend to start promptly between 8:30pm and 8:45pm โ I make it a rule not to wait past 8:45pm. Please also avoid arriving earlier than 8:15pm; if you get to the house before then, please wait in your car as we are usually still getting last-minute things ready. If you do arrive late you are welcome to come in, but depending on when you arrive there may not be a seat available. The last thing I want is for someone to drive all the way out only to miss the game, so please be on time! =)
***
**What to Expect & General Tips**
**Game Length** โ Most games take anywhere between 2 and 3 hours, including the teach, which means you will typically only play one game per evening. Occasionally a shorter game wraps up early and that group may play a second, but that is more the exception than the rule.
**Game Difficulty** โ This group primarily plays medium to complex games, and while new players are always welcome โ the host will teach you at the table! โ it's worth knowing what to expect before you come. If you are looking to play games like Scrabble, Monopoly, Uno, or party games, this is probably not the right event for you. In three years I have seen only two party games played and zero classic board games.
**Update Your Status** โ Please be considerate of others who would like to attend but may be held back by space constraints. If you can no longer make it, update your status as soon as possible so others can attend โ even if there is no waitlist. This also helps me plan seating and choose games appropriate for the number of players.

Profs & Pints Northern Virginia: Folktales of Summer Forests
[Profs and Pints Northern Virginia](https://www.profsandpints.com/washingtondc) presents: **โFolktales of Summer Forests,โ** with Brittany Warman, former instructor at Ohio State University and co-founder of the Carterhaugh School of Folklore and the Fantastic.
[Advance tickets: $13.50 plus sales tax and processing fees. Available at [https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/profsandpints/nv-summer-forests](https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/profsandpints/nv-summer-forests) .]
Unique folklore emerges from the summer months, when the sun burns hot and nature bursts with full, lush beauty. Some of this lore is strange, some of it tragic, and some as beautiful as sunlight through branches.
Wander deep into the folklore of summer with Brittany Warman of the Carterhaugh School, an extraordinary educational organization which has earned a large and loyal following among Profs and Pints fans with its captivating talks on folktales, fairy tales, legends, and myths.
Weโll look at why the forest stands as the perfect setting for enchantment and mystery. Itโs by turns a place of shade and rest and a place of uncertainty and fear. It can be dangerous, bountiful, tame, or wild. It shelters witches, fairies, monsters, and more under its branches.
From the forest come the legends of the illusive Green Man, the king of the woods. Also told are stories of sacred trees, hidden dances, and fairies who engage in midsummer abductions. Fairy tales like โThe Witch in the Woodsโ and โThe White Deerโ tell of hidden doorways, magic rings, and cursed princesses.
Let Dr. Warman guide you through magical forests and youโll emerge seeing the wonder in every leaf, stream, and wildflower. ( Doors: $17, or $15 with a student ID. Listed time is for doors. Talk starts 30 minutes later.)

Book description:
A merchantโs daughter who yearns for adventure gets more than she bargained for when she falls for a broodingly handsome stranger in this saucy romantasy from the New York Times bestselling author of The Hurricane Wars.
โA true delight of a book! Spicy and heartfeltโthis one is a winner all around.โโKatee Robert, author of Neon Gods
As the daughter of an ambitious merchant, Guinevereโs path has been predetermined: marry into a noble house of the Dwendalian Empire, raise her familyโs station, and live quietly as a lordlingโs obedient wife. But Guinevere longs for a life unbounded by expectations, for freedom and passion and adventure.
Those distant dreams become a sudden reality when her caravan is beset by bandits, leaving her guards slain and Guinevere stranded alone on the dangerous Amber Road. Her only chance of survival is to travel alongside Oskar, the aloof half-orc who saved her during the attack.
Unlike Guinevere, Oskarโs path is not so set in stone. With his mother dead and his apprenticeship abandoned, all thatโs left is a long, lonely walk to a land heโs never seen to find family heโs never met. The last thing he needs is a spoiled waif like Guinevere slowing him downโeven if the spark between them sizzles with promise.
Despite his cold exterior, Oskar is brave and thoughtful and unlike anyone Guinevere has ever met. And while Guinevere may be sheltered, she brings out a softness in him that he has never dared to feel before. As the flames of their passion grow, they realize that soon theyโll need to choose between their expected destinations or their blossoming romance.
Written by New York Times bestselling author Thea Guanzon at the behest of Critical Roleโs Jester Lavorre, Tusk Love brings the most romantic story on Exandrian bookshelves to life.
