Algonquin Park Moose Adventure
Algonquin Park Moose Adventure
Experience the wonders of Algonquin Park in the beautiful early days of spring, when the park begins to wake up and wildlife activity really starts to pick up. Please join us for a fantastic day trip into one of Ontario’s most famous and beloved wilderness areas. This is a wonderful time of year to visit Algonquin. If you have ever dreamed of seeing a moose in the wild, this is one of your best chances. The ice is disappearing, the forests and wetlands are coming back to life, and there is always that sense of excitement that comes with a new season. Along the scenic roads and waterways of the park, we will be watching for moose, which are often seen feeding along roadsides and in marshy areas at this time of year. We will also keep an eye out for River Otters, Beavers busy repairing their dams, and other wildlife that make Algonquin such a special place. With some luck, we may also encounter specialty birds such as Spruce Grouse and Ruffed Grouse, especially during the breeding season when they can be very active. This is also an excellent time to look for birds like Black-backed Woodpecker and newly arriving spring songbirds. While moose are one of our main targets, this can also be a very rewarding time for other wildlife. Over the years, we have seen everything from Eastern Wolves and Red Foxes to Pine Martens and Barred Owls. Our adventure begins with departure from Toronto at 7:30 a.m. sharp from Finch Station Passenger Pickup and Dropoff. We expect to arrive in Algonquin Park at approximately 10:30 a.m., where we will begin exploring some of the park’s best wildlife and birding areas. We will do some short walks during the day, and we will also visit the iconic Visitor Centre with its panoramic views over the forest. With expert guidance, we will explore some of the park’s prime birding and wildlife locations, always hoping for memorable sightings and good photographic opportunities. While specific sightings can never be guaranteed, I will take you to the areas that offer us the best chances based on current conditions and recent activity. This outing is considered moderate, with short hikes and walks, as much of the birding and wildlife viewing is done from concentrated areas and roadside stops. Please wear appropriate footwear, as trails may be muddy or wet at this time of year. Cost is $129 per person, including tax. Payment can be made through PayPal or by bank e-transfer to torontonaturelovers@hotmail.com. Whether it is your first visit to Algonquin or one of many, spring is a magical time to be there. Please join us for a memorable day of wildlife viewing, birding, photography, and fresh air in one of Ontario’s true natural treasures. Limited spots, so do not miss out! Of course, wildlife can never be guaranteed, as these are wild animals, but with my years of guiding experience and by visiting at the best time of year, we give ourselves an excellent chance to see moose and other wildlife in the park.

Runway to Malton (0.8 km + 6.4 km)
Runway to Malton (0.8 km + 6.4 km)
What's good to eat at the airport? Not much, and almost nothing before security. Still, we'll go through Pearson Airport Terminals 1 and 3, checking out public art works and the paltry amount of food options. Airports can be great hiking destinations. The ones in Whitehorse, London Gatwick, and Singapore have trails through the terminals and around the runways, connecting to green spaces. Unfortunately, YYZ is not one of those airports. There is no pedestrian access so we have to settle with taking the (free) train to get out. In the second part of the hike, we'll head to Malton. It was once the aeronautical hub of Canada and a leading innovator on the world stage. The Avro Arrow aircraft was the crowning achievement and Malton boomed around the aviation industry. However, Avro quickly fell apart after government cuts. Some of the bright minds there went on to NASA for moon missions. Today, Malton has a neglected feel to it. Even Walmart left the neighbourhood in 2021. Its aviation history lives on in scattered monuments. It's a little corner that Mississauga forgot. The food landscape here is cheap South Asian food. We'll end at a rejuvenated mall packed with Indian and Pakistani stores, where we have a range of places for snacking. **Highlights** 1. Inuksuit sculpture at Airport Terminal 1 departure level (depart 2:30pm) 2. Artworks at Terminal 1 3. Airport train ride 4. Terminal 3 5. Viscount station (depart 3:05pm) 6. Zet's Restaurant 7. Food at Flightpath Centre 8. Food plazas around Airport Rd and Derry Rd / Mughal Mahal (depart 3:55pm) 9. Avro Canada Monument / Malton Sign 10. New Cane Grove 11. Food court at Westwood Square (arrive 4:40pm) **Neighbourhoods** Toronto Pearson Airport > Malton **Map** [https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1ILncsGq4j07ndVKkB9woQWCRBb2FQLI&usp=sharing](https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1ILncsGq4j07ndVKkB9woQWCRBb2FQLI&usp=sharing) **How it works** Hike starts punctually. Late or can't do the whole route? Meet us at scheduled checkpoints. We'll browse many food places but won't linger long. See the route in advance, organize takeout, then pickup along the way. Not sure what to try? Join our omakase for $5, which gives a tiny sample from different restaurants. Payment on the day of event by cash or e-transfer to globaltorontoeats@gmail.com. No refunds after orders are placed. Details of sampled food will be uploaded after the hike. Limited cutlery provided. Highly recommended to bring cutlery and containers for omakase and bringing back leftovers. See our [About section](https://www.meetup.com/hike-to-eat/) for more info.

Social Mixer
Social Mixer
YOU MUST RSVP HERE! We have limited free tickets! Then prices go up! https://socialmixtureapril.eventbrite.com Looking for something different to do on a Saturday night in Toronto? Social Creatures is back with another Social Mixer at Crystal Thani on College Street on Saturday April 25. If you enjoy meeting new people, playing interactive social games, and stepping into something a little outside your usual routine, this night is designed for you. This is not a normal meetup where people are left to figure things out on their own. There is a host guiding the entire room, running structured activities, using materials, and shaping how people move and connect throughout the night. It removes the awkward guessing and creates a flow where meeting people feels natural. Whether you are more introverted, highly social, or somewhere in between, the environment is built to make connection easier. The activities are designed so conversations happen without forcing anything, and people end up meeting others they normally would not cross paths with. Toronto can often feel like people stay within their own circles. This mixer is about breaking that pattern. Most people arrive not knowing anyone in the room. As the night goes on, strangers become familiar faces and the energy of the space starts to shift into something more connected and alive. We are also introducing new activities and social challenges for this event, designed to get people moving, laughing, and interacting with different people throughout the night. It is encouraged to come on your own. People who arrive solo usually engage more fully, meet more people, and experience the event in a more open way. Social Creatures was recently featured in a BlogTO article, highlighting how these events are helping people in Toronto meet new friends and reconnect with the social side of the city. If you are open to new experiences, meeting interesting people, and being part of something positive in the city, you will feel at home here. Event Details Date: Saturday , April 25 Time: 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM Location: Crystal Thani Address: 571 College St, Toronto ⸻ Arrive Early Arriving early gives you the full experience. The first activities begin shortly after the event starts, and early arrival makes it easier to meet everyone and settle into the flow of the night. ⸻ What to Expect Engaging social games and guided group activities. New interactive challenges introduced for this event. A welcoming and energetic atmosphere inside Crystal Thani. Food and drinks available through the venue. Opportunities to meet new people and expand your social circle. Photos and videos may be taken during the event for Social Creatures content. ⸻ Who Should Come Anyone looking to meet new people and be part of a positive social experience. People new to the city or looking to expand their circle. The usual crowd ranges from 19 to 40, though all ages are welcome. This is not a dating event. The focus is social connection, respect, and openness to meeting everyone in the room. ⸻ Dress Code Come as you are. Casual, comfortable, and expressive. Everyone attending is expected to treat others respectfully and contribute to a welcoming environment. ⸻ About Social Creatures Social Creatures started with a simple idea. Toronto needed more spaces where people could gather, play games, and meet others without it feeling forced. What began as small gatherings between friends has grown into a community where people come together to socialize, try new activities, and create memorable moments in the city. ⸻ Venue Tips Support the venue by purchasing at least one drink or food item. Be mindful of others and help keep the environment positive for everyone. ⸻ Common Questions Can I come alone? Yes. Most people attend solo, and it is encouraged because it creates a more open and connected environment. Do I need experience with the games? No experience is needed. Everything is beginner friendly and guided by the host. Is this a dating event? No. The focus is social connection and meeting new people. What should I bring? Bring yourself and a positive mindset. You may also want money for food or drink. Can I leave early? Yes, though staying for the full event helps you experience everything. ⸻ Stay Connected Instagram: @SocialCreaturesEvents TikTok: @SocialCreaturesEvents Follow Social Creatures on Eventbrite for future events and updates. Your next Saturday night in Toronto can feel different. Come see what unfolds.

🏙️🍔 LIBERTY VILLAGE, STACKT MARKET & THE WELL WALK 🍔🏙️
🏙️🍔 LIBERTY VILLAGE, STACKT MARKET & THE WELL WALK 🍔🏙️
🏙️🍔 LIBERTY VILLAGE, STACKT MARKET & THE WELL WALK 🍔🏙️ Old Industry, New Energy & A Food Hall Finish Some parts of Toronto have completely reinvented themselves — and walking through them feels like watching the city evolve in real time. This is a brand new walk — the first time we’re doing it — and it’s all about exploring three very different (and very cool) pockets of the west end. We’ll start in Liberty Village, once an industrial zone filled with factories and rail lines, now transformed into a buzzing neighbourhood of condos, creative spaces, and local energy. You can still feel the history in the brick buildings — it’s just been given a whole new life. From there, we’ll head to Stackt Market, a unique outdoor market built from shipping containers, full of pop-up shops, art, and ever-changing vendors. We’ll finish at The Well, one of Toronto’s newest and most talked-about developments, where we’ll settle into the food hall for a relaxed lunch together. This is not a formal tour. It’s a social walk — a mix of city exploration, light storytelling, and discovering places together. 👉 **Don’t forget to join our WhatsApp group** – [CLICK HERE!](https://chat.whatsapp.com/H59mSCbsAi018gYANrKAnc?mode=ac_t) *** 🚶‍♂️ What We’ll Do We’ll meet at Wendy’s at King & Dufferin and begin our walk into Liberty Village, wandering through its streets and getting a feel for the neighbourhood. From there, we’ll make our way over to Stackt Market to explore, browse, and take it all in. Afterward, we’ll continue toward The Well, where we’ll wrap up the walk and grab lunch in the food hall. There are lots of options, so everyone can find something they like. You’re welcome to stay and eat or head out whenever you like. *** 🌦️ Weather & Expectations This walk will happen in typical spring weather — sun, wind, or light rain. As long as it’s not extreme conditions, we’ll be going ahead. Dress in layers and come prepared — this is April in Toronto. Comfortable shoes are recommended. Also — since this is our first time doing this route, we’ll be exploring it together a bit. That’s part of the fun. And as always — this is NOT a guided or historical tour. It’s about being social and enjoying the experience. *** 🧢 Meetup Details 📍 Meetup Location: I will be waiting outside of Wendy’s at King & Dufferin 🫎 I’ll be wearing my Moose Hat ⏰ Meetup Time: 11:00 AM I will only wait 5 minutes. Early is on time. On time is late. We’ll head out promptly, so please plan ahead. End Point: The Well (Food Hall) *** 🎟️ Meetup Fee: $5 cash in person or e-transfer to 📧 **mathewmaclean@hotmail.com** This helps support the group and allows us to keep hosting events like this. Thank you for supporting community! 💖 *** 🎒 What to Bring Water Comfortable walking shoes A small snack (optional) Weather-appropriate clothing (layers + rain-ready ☔) Optional: cash/card for lunch Please also use the washroom before arriving, as stops are limited. *** 🌈 Who Is This For? This group is open to anyone who wants to be social and make friends — whether single or not. We also host: 🎬 Movies 🚶 Walks & hikes 🎭 Arts & culture outings 🍽️ Restaurant gatherings There’s always something happening. *** REMEMBER: You’re welcome to just show up on the day if you’re unsure about your schedule. And as always, sometimes plans shift and events may need to be canceled — please keep an eye on updates. *** 👤 Organizer: Mathew Questions? Post on the event wall or email 📧 torontomoviesandoutings@hotmail.com Come for the contrast. Stay for the food. Leave feeling like you experienced three different Torontos — all in one walk. 🏙️✨

Join us as we get together to see your choice of two VERY different movies – one sweet and wholesome – the other a terrifying folklore horror! Option 1 is the fun whodunnit-action-comedy-mystery led by Hugh Jackman, THE SHEEP DETECTIVES! Option 2 is the top-reviewed supernatural-horror-thriller starring Adam Scott, HOKUM! Here’s a description, trailer and plan for this event: THE SHEEP DETECTIVES: Every night a shepherd reads aloud a murder mystery, pretending his sheep can understand. When he is found dead, the sheep realize at once that it was a murder and think they know everything about how to go about solving it. The film is directed by Kyle Balda and take a look at this ensemble cast: Hugh Jackman, Nicholas Braun, Molly Gordon, Hong Chau and Emma Thompson and the voices of Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Bryan Cranston, Chris O'Dowd, Regina Hall, Patrick Stewart, Bella Ramsey, Brett Goldstein and Rhys Darby. TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyZI5oM6hWk HOKUM: In this film, a horror writer visits an Irish inn to scatter his parents' ashes, unaware the property is said to be haunted by a witch. It is written/directed by Damian McCarthy stars Adam Scott, Peter Coonan, David Wilmot, Florence Ordesh and Austin Amelio. Hokum premiered to rave reviews at this year’s SXSW Festival and is being release by Neon. It is earning a stellar 97% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which calls it, “A classic haunted house story enriched with atmospheric folklore and perfectly-timed shocks!” TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EVCIK_MPyhc PLAN: We’ll plan for a 7pm-ish showing of both films and will meet inside the theater lobby about 20 minutes before showtime. If the showtimes work out, we’ll try to get both groups together for a bite before the shows! Complete details and showtime will be confirmed/announced as the date gets closer. Look forward to seeing you there, Dan

**Hike Slate Run Metro Park and visit the Living Historical Farm. We will aim for 3.5 to 4 miles of hiking and then do a quick pass through the Living Historical Farm. From there those who are interested can join for lunch at Brewdog, 96 Gender Way, Canal Winchester, just 11 minutes away.** **If you’d like to spend more time at the Farm plan on arriving early (they open at 9).** **Living Historical Farm: Time has been turned back to the 1880s at Slate Run Living Historical Farm. Experience first-hand what life was like on a 19th-century Ohio farm. As you stroll through the gardens, barns and farmhouse, you will see the farm’s costumed staff and volunteers going about their daily chores. Pigs, geese, turkeys, Percheron horses and other heirloom animals can be seen.** **The gothic revival farmhouse was built in 1856 and restored by Metro Parks for authenticity. Visitors can tour the living room, parlor and kitchen and watch the farm ladies prepare meals on a woodburning stove and tend the house. The multi-bay barn was built by Samuel Oman, the fourth owner of Slate Run Farm, and restored by Amish carpenters.** **Allow at least three hours and maybe more if you're joining for lunch.** **Pace is 17-18 minute miles with no one left behind. Faster walkers are free to lead - I'll have the route well defined - and we can meet up at the farm.** **This is the fourth of the metro parks.**
