Il protagonista è il maresciallo Faber, un tipo diverso dall’immaginario comune: non è un eroe, nè un duro da fiction e non è neanhe particolarmente brillante; è un uomo stanco, ironico, incasinato, ma anche incredibilmente lucido. Si destreggia tra dovere e vita privata, a volte come un elefante in una stanza, a volte come un abile ballerino sul palco.
