**The Ride : Detail**
**+++++++++++++++++++++**
For your riding pleasure NoVA CBG presents Thirsty Thursday.
Thirsty Thursday is about trying a solid Medium Level ("B" group) ride in an encouraging, structured environment. We welcome strong Beginner Level riders that are willing to push themselves to become better cyclists.
This is a NO DROP ride so you will not be left behind but you are expected to really try to keep pace. The lead will go no more than 16mph and other organizers/helpers will attempt to "fill the gaps" as we ride.
This is a mostly flat ride from Jones Point to Fort Hunt. Of course the "price of admission" for this ride is a hill that presents itself as soon as we enter the neighborhood across the GW Parkway... we have named it "The PUNISHER". If you successfully climb that hill, you are officially a CBG "B" group rider.
Once we get to Fort Hunt we will do laps (or you can rest) for a bit before heading back the way we came.
If you normally ride faster than 15mph you are welcome to practice your "keeping pace" skills. If you've done this ride at least once before and have the route loaded on a Bike navigation computer (Garmin, Wahoo, Etc...) or the RidewithGPS app there is also an "A" group version that you can sign up for (aka Very Thirsty Thursday) that rides independently and faster.

NoVA CBG tries to accommodate all levels of cyclists by offering different types/levels of rides. We just ask that you come to the ride that suits your current riding ability the best.

* Beginner Level: You can ride for 10+ miles at a pace of 10+ to 12+ mph with potentially minor hills involved.
* Medium Level: You can ride for 20+ miles at a pace of 13+ to 15+ mph with potentially moderate hills involved.
* Advanced Level: You can ride for 20++ miles at a pace of 15+ mph with potentially major hills involved.

Bitcoin Book Club: The Fourth Turning
Join the Bitcoin District Book Club! We meet every month to explore new and exciting rabbit holes by reading books that are popular with bitcoiners.
Join us for a deep dive into *The Fourth Turning: An American Prophecy* by William Strauss and Neil Howe. In this session, we’ll explore one of the most influential modern frameworks for understanding historical cycles and generational change—and why its predictions seem increasingly relevant today.
Strauss and Howe propose that history moves in recurring cycles, or “turnings,” each lasting roughly 20–25 years and shaped by generational archetypes. According to their model, societies pass through four phases: a High, an Awakening, an Unraveling, and finally a Crisis—the “Fourth Turning.” This final phase is marked by institutional breakdown, social upheaval, and a restructuring of the political and economic order. We’ll discuss where we might currently sit within this cycle, how past Fourth Turnings (like the Great Depression and World War II era) unfolded, and what this framework suggests about the coming decade.
For those interested in macro trends, generational dynamics, and long-term historical patterns, this book offers a provocative lens for interpreting today’s instability—and what may come next.

**Event Notes:**
* Discussion Starters: We’ll kick things off with a few key questions around generational cycles and crisis periods, but feel free to bring your own perspectives.
* Future Reads: Let us know if you have recommendations for future book club selections! We’ll add them to the list posted [on our website](https://bitcoindistrict.org/bookclub).
* Afterwards: Feel free to join us at Pubkey after the meeting to hang out, continue the conversation, and grab some food!

**The Ride : Detail**
**+++++++++++++++++++++**
For your riding pleasure NoVA CBG presents Very Thirsty Thursday.
This is the Advanced Version ("A" group) of our traditional Thirsty Thursday ride. Same route, just faster, and without a lead or sweep. To qualify for this "A" group you must have participated in the Medium Level Thirsty Thursday.
"A" group riders are expected to do the same route as the "B" group riders. You are welcome to do the Evil Twin hill as an added bonus. The only "stop" you need to make is at Fort Hunt. When at Fort Hunt you will wait for the "B" group to fully arrive.
As part of the "A" group you will be expected to know the route or have it loaded on your bicycle navigation computer or RidewithGPS phone app. At some point, the "B" group riders will be coming up behind you so if there is a problem someone from CBG can/will assist.
Most importantly: All route details, road riding safety rules, as well as CBG Good Guy rules WILL BE followed. Any evidence to the contrary will have repercussions. **This is a ONE STRIKE statement.**

Our first Women Writers Bookclub meeting
Come chill with us we'll eat, drink and discuss the book of the month: Cursed daughters.
May Discussion - Herland (Charlotte Perkins Gilman)
This month we’ll be reading Herland! It is the second book in a trilogy (but it stands alone as well), and you don’t need to read the first and third books (unless you want to!). Here is the description from Storygraph:
Herland is a utopian novel from 1915, written by feminist Charlotte Perkins Gilman. The book describes an isolated society composed entirely of women, who reproduce via parthenogenesis (asexual reproduction). The result is an ideal social order: free of war, conflict, and domination. It was first published in monthly installments as a serial in 1915 in The Forerunner, a magazine edited and written by Gilman between 1909 and 1916, with its sequel, With Her in Ourland beginning immediately thereafter in the January 1916 issue. The book is often considered to be the middle volume in her utopian trilogy; preceded by Moving the Mountain (1911), and followed by, With Her in Ourland (1916). It was not published in book form until 1979.

Book summary:
On a hot day in Bethlehem, a twelve-year-old Palestinian-American girl is yelled at by a group of men outside the Church of the Nativity. She has exposed her legs in a biblical city, an act they deem forbidden, and their judgement will echo on through her adolescence. When our narrator finally admits to her mother that she is queer, her mother's response only intensifies a sense of shame: 'You exist too much,' she tells her daughter. Told in vignettes that flash between the U.S. and the Middle East--from New York to Jordan, Lebanon, and Palestine--Zaina Arafat's debut novel traces her protagonist's progress from blushing teen to sought-after DJ and aspiring writer.
