Field Trips

Come and join us for an evening of Buddhist meditation with like-minded people. The doors open at 7:00 PM, and meditation begins promptly at 7:15 PM. The meditation will last between 30 to 40 minutes, followed by tea and biscuits for anyone who would like to stay and chat. On some evenings, there will also be a short Dharma talk to provide some Buddhist context. The meditation space is down at the canal. To get there, you can take the stairs down. Join in for a morning of crafting & chatting over a drink at Cafe Le Journal. Just bring your own project and payment for drinks. Meet fellow crafting enthusiasts, whether it's knitting, crocheting, stitching, origami, or something more unique! We talk about our projects, exchange tipps, but also just get to know each other and enjoy a relaxed Sunday morning in good company. All ages, levels and crafts welcome! And don't be shy, we have newcomers most weeks! **Sunday 21st December 2025** Druids, Witches, and Friends Midwinter Gathering **Park Frankendael (starting at main entrance gates near Middenweg 72).** **17:30 - 19:00 ish** Gather together to peacefully celebrate the shortest day - midwinter - Yule. Wear your cloaks, thick coats, scarves, add some ivy and sparkle if you wish. Bring your own lantern/lamp, warm drink, and mug, maybe a handheld snack. But most importantly, bring your self. Philosophical discussions about fundamental human questions. It’s not a lecture! It’s participants like you who make the discussion a success, organizers just facilitate it. We bring our most puzzling questions - along with creativity, curiosity and genuine interest to enrich ourselves with perspectives of others. This usually makes Socrates Café event a truly inspiring one for people with very different backgrounds. We discuss, we inquire, we think aloud - respect is the main rule. Some practical stuff: 1. Everyone is welcome, but not all behaviors are welcome. If there is anything that may prevent you from participating in a respectful discussion, leave them outside before you come into the discussion. If you cannot do so, you will be asked to leave. 2. Please try to arrive on time so that you can participate in the whole discussion. If you are running late, please give us a heads up so we can hold your spot, otherwise it may be given to someone on the waitlist. If you cannot make it, please cancel as soon as possible, as frequent no-shows will be moved to the waiting list. 3. For those on the waiting list, feel free to stop by if you're in the area anyway, because last-minute spots may be available. An overflow event at a nearby cafe can be organized if there are enough people and extra moderators. 4. It is sometimes necessary to challenge others' ideas in the process - you are welcome to challenge ideas as long as it does not turn into something personal with the person who presented the idea. The format of the discussion is designed to minimize one-on-one debates so that the entire group can explore a question in a collaborative way. First Sundays are free admission at Franklin Park Conservatory. Sunday, January 4th, is also the last day The Palm House will be open before renovations begin. Let’s meet, enjoy a respite from January weather, and wander the gardens. Free neanthe bella palms are available to guests, beginning at 10am, while supplies last. Afterwards, we can visit the nearby East Market (212 Kelton Avenue).
