Join us for a fun session of improv theatre in English! A great opportunity to meet new people in Utrecht and learn something new with Improv Utrecht. Everyone can partcipate, you don't need any experience in theatre nor fluency in English. **Special topic: Movement & Theatre improv** Movement improvisation is a wonderful basis for all other forms of improvisation. Well before we had language we had movement; there is so much that can be expressed without words. Instead of the games that are used in theater improv, we work mostly with “scores”, or a kind of blueprint to what will happen in a space of time. A kind of a structure. We will do exercises that originate from Viewpoints, physical theater, and other forms of improvisation (including a bit of Contact Improv at times), and moving in/with/through the space, non verbal contact and how we can communicate through our bodies. Anyone can participate, you don’t need any experience in movement or theater nor complete fluency in English. Deep Research agents **Abstract**: Given a user's complex information need, a multi-agent Deep Research system iteratively plans, retrieves, and synthesizes evidence across hundreds of documents to produce a high-quality answer. In our case, an *orchestrator agent* coordinates the process, while parallel *worker agents* execute tasks. Current Deep Research systems, however, often rely on hand-engineered prompts and static architectures, making improvement brittle, expensive, and time-consuming. Similarly, evaluating the quality of these agents is far from trivial, specially when no golden-answer exists. At Zeta Alpha, we are looking into improving **both** of these aspects and in how they may interact. Starting from our LLM-as-a-judge project RAGElo, we are looking into how the LLM-as-a-judge framework, specially using pairwise comparisons, may lead to better agents that can self-play and explore different strategies to produce high-quality Deep Research systems that match or outperform expert-crafted prompts. **Bio:** I’m a Senior Research Engineer working on agentic search and evaluation at Zeta Alpha, an R&D-oriented startup based in Amsterdam. Zeta Alpha develops a sovereign AI platform for enterprise costumers allowing large companies to deploy agents that work on their private data, with a high-quality search backend. Before joining Zeta Alpha, I obtained my PhD from TU Delft, working on Search-as-Learning and Neural IR. **Speaker #2: Mouly Dewan** from **University of Washington** **Title:** LLM-Driven Usefulness Judgment for Web Search Evaluation **Abstract:** Evaluation is fundamental to optimizing search experiences and supporting diverse user intents in Information Retrieval (IR). Traditional search evaluation methods primarily rely on relevance labels, which assess how well retrieved documents match a user's query. However, relevance alone fails to capture a search system’s effectiveness in helping users achieve their search goals, making usefulness a critical evaluation criterion. Recent LLM enabled evaluation works have mostly focused on relevance label generation. In this paper, we explore an alternative approach: LLM-generated usefulness labels which incorporate both implicit and explicit user behavior signals along with relevance to evaluate document usefulness. We introduce Task-aware Rubric-based Usefulness Evaluation (TRUE), a reproducible rubric-driven evaluation framework that leverages iterative sampling and Chain-of-Thought reasoning to model complex search behavior patterns. Our comprehensive study shows that: (i) pre-trained LLMs can generate moderate usefulness labels when provided with rich session-level context; and (ii) LLMs with TRUE framework outperform existing state-of-the-art methods as well as our systematically constructed baseline. We further examine whether LLMs can distinguish between relevance and usefulness, particularly in unique divergence cases between them. Additionally, we conduct an ablation study to identify key features for accurate usefulness label generation, enabling cost-effective evaluation. Overall, this work advances LLM-based evaluation beyond relevance by proposing a reproducible and scalable framework for usefulness judgment, addressing key reproducibility challenges and supporting large-scale LLM-based evaluation. **Bio:** I am Mouly, a 3rd Year PhD student in Information School at the University of Washington, Seattle. My research lies at the intersection of Interactive Information Retrieval (IIR) and Conversational AI, with an emphasis on developing and applying novel evaluation methodologies, particularly leveraging LLMs (LLM4Eval) to improve search, recommendation and proactive conversational information seeking systems. **Counter:** SEA Talks #299 and #300.

We’ll begin the day slowly and gezellig with a traditional cup of coffee at our favorite café in Nijmegen, followed by a relaxed walk through the city. From there, we’ll head into the woods, passing through the charming Philosopher’s Valley, with its swinging hedges, forest paths, and surprisingly hilly landscapes that make this area so special. This hike is all about enjoying nature, good company, and shared moments, with fellow hikers just like you. **Finish in the Wine Village of the Netherlands:** Groesbeek After completing our 14 km hike, we’ll arrive in Groesbeek, officially known as the wine village of the Netherlands. This circular walk begins at Nijmegen Heyendaal train station and takes us through some forests to the south of Nijmegen. We’ll walk through Brakkenstein park, then a tranquil botanical garden (Stichting Hortus), then into the Dekkerswald woodland estate. Further south we will walk through the north part of the Groesbeekbos and stop for refreshments at the Boscafé de Zweef. Then we walk northward again through the pine forests of the Heumensoord and the leafy University grounds to get back to the station. The walk is mostly flat, but features mostly rough/uneven paths so it is recommended to wear sturdy walking shoes. As always, remember to bring water and maybe some snacks.

It is the largest such center in North America and one of the largest in the entire world. During this tour, we'll visit The Wilds' rhino herd in their state-of-the-art heated barns and learn how The Wilds' animal management team takes care of one of the largest herds of rhinos outside of Africa and Asia. **The date and time of this tour** We will be doing the 1:00 p.m. [Rhino Barn Tour](https://www.thewilds.org/rhino-barn-tour) on Saturday, February 28. The tour is scheduled to last 90 minutes. **What you need to do to attend** Signing up here on Meetup will not get you into The Wilds for the tour. The Wilds generally asks that people arrive at least thirty minutes because the scheduled start time of their tour. **GPS / Getting to The Wilds** The Wilds is in a very rural area, but I've never had a problem getting there with my GPS (I have Verizon). I've also uploaded a JPG map, below, of Muskingum County. Sometimes, though, it's hard to get a signal when you're at The Wilds and getting ready to leave. So you might want to consider downloading an offline map in Google Maps. Your cell phone should pick up a signal, however, within a few minutes after you leave. The Wilds' Visitor Center does have free Wi-Fi. **Carpooling?** If you want to carpool, I recommend discussing this in the comments, below, to this event. While I don't myself carpool, I will do what I can to help you arrange something if I can. **The weather** Dress for the weather. Just because the barn is heated doesn't mean it will be warm. And wear closed-toed shoes. Wilds' tours typically run no matter what the weather is. **After the tour** Once we're done with the rhinos, we'll head over to the very highly rated [Y-Bridge Brewing Company](https://ybridgebrewing.com/). The brewery is about thirty minutes from The Wilds, and it will be on the way back to Columbus for most, if not all, of us. This is CSC’s largest activity with over 200 participants. Each team typically consists of 6 men and 6 women players. The brewery also has (passable) drip coffee, free water, and Jeni's ice cream. You can also walk over to the [Land Grant Extension](https://callinyourbluffcoffee.com/) for "real" coffee. (You may have to stand in line, though. The Extension is popular.) You can come late or leave early. Please just sign up so I know to expect you. **Notes on Parking** * You'll (probably) have to park on the street, but street parking is free on Sundays. * There are [parking garages](https://landgrantbrewing.com/parking/) a little farther away if you want.
