Verre đˇ February 2026 Blind Wine Tasting!
Had to shift this to the third Wednesday of the month in February (instead of the usual second Wednesday), hope you can make it!
I got the ok from Verre so was able to increase the capacity to 12.
**EVENT STARTS AT 6PM. PLEASE BE PROMPT.**
đˇWhat is blind wine tasting?đˇ
You use your sense of smell, sight, and taste to try to deduce which variety (grape) is in the glass.
This group is very experience-diverse and we welcome both wine newbies and wine pros (and everyone in between).
Verre will pour us two wine flights, one white and one red (3 of each, so a total of 6 wine samples) and we will discuss what we are tasting to try to solve the mystery together. After each flight is a big reveal where we find out just how right (or wrong!) we were.
Diana will let us know the possible wines we are going on grid tonight.
Please arrive at **6:00pm**. The white wine flight is served around 6:10 and the red flight around 6:50. The cost will be about $15 per flight, depending on what is poured for us. Food and other wine will be available for purchase as well.
đˇRSVPs: Verre has a limited amount of table space and is reserving much of that space for our group. Out of consideration to the business, the event hosts, and anyone on the wait list, **please edit your RSVP as soon as possible if your plans change** and you can no longer attend the event, **even if you are on the wait list**.
đˇTransportation:
* METRO: Verre Wine Bar is walking distance from Courthouse metro.
* CAR: Metered street parking and paid garage parking are available in the area.
Hope to see you there!
\~Pete
Waitlisted Friends! \*PLEASE\* keep an eye on this page and your messages especially close to the day of the event. Thanks!
Power Query Escape Room with John Kerski
**\*\*Please note this event is in-person only.\*\* We have limited space, please do not RSVP if you are not planning on joining us in person in D.C. at SEI.**
The villainous **Lord Taart Chart** has emerged from the shadows once again, and heâs targeting your data! In a brazen attack, heâs stolen your carefully curated data and locked it deep inside his fortified **Azure Vault**.
**Your Mission:**
You and your team must rise to the challenge, confronting Lord Taart Chartâs wicked ways by solving his **10 Power Query Puzzles**. These devious challenges will test your ability to wrangle, transform, and tame even the messiest of data.
Join us at SEI for a reprise of our most popular session from Power BI Days DC 2025, a fiendishly tricky collaborative game developed by our very own John Kerski. In March, Lord Taart Chart will hit the road for his first ever appearance on the national stage at FabCon Atlanta.

Covid Alert:
We will start having classes again at Canal Park on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Please bring your own hand sanitizer, and mask are a must! We'll practice from a safe distance from each other; and progress from there.

**This talk has completely sold out in advance and no door tickets will be available.**
[Profs and Pints DC](https://www.profsandpints.com/washingtondc) presents: **âThe Folklore of Love Spells,â** on the use of magic to influence romantic destinies, with Cory Thomas Hutcheson, folklorist, lecturer at Middle Tennessee State University, and author of *New World Witchery: A Trove of North American Folk Magic.*
[Advance tickets: $13.50 plus sales tax and processing fees. Available at [https://www.ticketleap.events/tickets/profsandpints/folklore-of-love-spells](https://www.ticketleap.events/tickets/profsandpints/folklore-of-love-spells) .]
Looking for a distinct follow-up to Valentineâs Day? Come to the Washington D.C.âs Hill Center for a rich, ribald, and riotous exploration of the use of romantic enchantments in history and folklore.
Youâll feel spellbound as you listen to folklorist Cory Thomas Hutcheson, who has earned a big following of loyal fans in giving Profs and Pints talks in Nashville. On his visit to the nationâs capital heâll discuss a delicious assortment of methodsâalluring and occasionally appallingâthat people historically have used to find, catch, or hold others to them.
Dr. Hutcheson will present talismans, potions, charms, and more from the pages of history, exploring the principles at work in each. You'll hear about how counting stars can lead to dreams of future lovers, why some women in the Ozarks once nailed turkey wishbones above their doors, and how a meal of fish, cheese, or chocolate might lead to seductionâor the hospital. His talk will cover everything from fortune-telling charms designed to predict the future of a relationship to secretive formulae intended to drive a couple apart.
Look Cupid in the eye and ask him "Why?" as we explore this raucous mixture of magic, belief, folklore, and story. If nothing else, youâll end up loving this learning experience. (Doors: $17, or $15 with a student ID. Listed time is for doors. Talk starts 30 minutes later.)

| Perfect Days follows Hirayama, a middle-aged man living a life of humble simplicity in Tokyo. His days are governed by a meticulous routine: he wakes at dawn to the sound of a street sweeper, tends to his maple saplings, and drives his small van through the city to his job cleaning public toilets. Despite the seemingly lowly nature of his work, Hirayama performs his duties with the grace and precision of a master craftsman, finding deep contentment in the order and service he provides. |
The core of Perfect Days is a celebration of presence and the dignity of labor\. Director Wim Wenders suggests that a meaningful life is not found in grand ambitions or material wealth\, but in the intentional appreciation of the here and now\. The film posits that true freedom comes from accepting life's limitations and finding 'perfection' in the subtle\, fleeting moments of harmony between humanity and nature\, encapsulated in the Japanese concept of Komerobi\. \|

¡ Frequencies ¡ by Darren Paul Fisher @ Beatley Library
In a parallel world where everyone has an innate âfrequency,â those with high frequencies are gifted, popular, and â most importantly â lucky. People in lower ranges have correspondingly less of these traits but more emotional depth. When someone with extremely high frequency is in close proximity to someone especially low, chaos ensues. A boy and girl at opposite extremes of the scale meet in elementary school and encounter each other repeatedly over many years. While the story seems at first to be a *Romeo and Juliet* variation in search of a happy ending, their universe has some secrets that will make the action weirder and more entertaining than anyone could expect.
