The Eurovision Song Contest isn’t just a celebration of music, it’s a cultural and political spectacle that’s evolved alongside Europe itself. From its humble beginnings in 1956 as a French-led experiment in non-political cross-border harmony, it’s grown into a global phenomenon that reflects the continent’s shifting dynamics. Early editions were a quiet affair, a way for nations to bond over shared history and shared dreams. But as Europe fractured, politically and economically, the contest became a mirror, sometimes reflecting the tensions beneath the surface. Now, though, the mirror’s cracked. With Israel’s participation and the withdrawal of five countries, the rules, including the non-politics, involvement feel arbitrary. And what does that say about the contest’s own relevance? Should the Eurovision evolve? This debate will follow a British Parliamentary format with eight debaters split into **four teams of two.** Participants who wish to speak are highly encouraged to bring a paper and pen. You are welcome to participate even if you have no prior debating experience. We aim for debates that are respectful, constructive, and welcoming: * **Respect ideas and people** Listen actively, stay quiet while others speak, and debate arguments, not identities or beliefs. * **Be concise and civil** Keep questions short and relevant; avoid hostility, hate speech, or discrimination. * **Respect boundaries and time** No unwanted advances or suggestive behavior; arrive on time to avoid disrupting the debate. * **Follow moderators** They guide the discussion and ensure fairness.

First impressions matter – especially when you speak. In this first session, we focus on how to **open a speech or presentation with impact**. You’ll learn how to capture attention from the first seconds, clarify your message early and avoid the common mistake of “warming up” too long. This is a **practical workshop**: * You will speak * You will receive live feedback * Your presentation will be recorded so you can track your progress This session is part of a **four-session public speaking programme**. We’ve created a great little community of Movie Group friends! Rather than see a movie this time, we’ll help “Create a better world” by helping serve people in need. Here are complete details and our plan for this event: CHAMPION FOOD PANTRY: The Champion Food Pantry provides needed food to neighbors experiencing food insecurity. For this event, we’ll be volunteering to help with Food Distribution during client pick up times. Our group will receive on-the-spot training from some of their seasoned regular volunteers. PLAN FOR CHAMPION FOOD PANTRY: Please arrive by 2:45pm. Our volunteer time will be from 3:00 to 6:00pm. LOCATION & PARKING: The Champion Food Pantry is located at 1460 S. Champion Ave in Columbus. **Doing KPIs Right: a KEY to Analytics (and AI!) Impact!** On the one hand, KPIs are such a Business 101 concept that it may seem a little silly to dedicate an entire session to the topic. On the other hand, KPIs get handled so poorly so often that a case could be made that this meetup could just be one of the most impactful sessions of the entire year!
