Sunday Screenings in the Living Room
Sunday Screenings in the Living Room
Weekly screenings from a large archive of many of the most significant, yet seldom seen and rarely accessible cinematic masterpieces in the history of film - from its earliest beginnings to the present day. Screenings are in original language, if English, or original language with English subtitles. Films are selected democratically on the inspiration of a brief pre-screening discussion. The selected title is typically a "neglected gem" that most of us discover together for the first time. Individual taste is not a criterion and all participants are expected to put the interests of the group as a whole above personal preference or prejudice. In this sense, the emphasis is on openness, exploration, and surprise. Each screening is followed by an in-depth group discussion, led and moderated by the curator. WARNNG: FilmStory is not just about watching movies! Rather, it's a socially responsible, intellectual engagement, involving an organic approach to group study of film language, philosophy, art, history, politics, and technology. In this sense, the film is always merely the current highlight in an explorative, ongoing group discussion. **FilmStory** is a members-only series that involves a closely knit community of cinephiles. Events take place every Sunday in a comfortable, private setting with limited capacity. Participation is reserved primarily for regular members, but we're always ready to make new friends! Non-regular members may request to meet the community and, upon acceptance as a "new joiner," are welcome to participate in one event, according to space availability. New joiners are asked to make a €6 member dues contribution in advance of the requested date. New members receive a message of confirmation and the address of the Living Room in 1080 Vienna upon receipt of their dues contribution. **FilmStory** is presented and hosted by **[KulturSalon Wien](https://www.meetup.com/kultursalon-wien/)**.

Saturday Film Club - 25th Edition - The Man Without a Past 2002
A Branch of the **Social Book Club** focusing on International Cinema. I try to host 2 film nights a month where I will find films based on the taste profile of my regular audience. We the Lovely Folks of the **Saturday Film Club, are back for the 25th Edition** this Saturday! đŸŽŹđŸŒżđŸ•Šïž ☀ We start at **18:30** hrs. Film chosen for this week is: đŸŽ„ **The Man Without a Past 2002** A quiet, deadpan Finnish film about a man who loses his memory and starts a new life among society’s outsiders. Warm, strange, melancholic, and very funny in a very understated way. A film about kindness, dignity, and starting again from nothing. IMDb: 7.6/10 – Runtime: 1h 37m. đŸœïž Post Meetup Food at China Zentrum Stiegengasse! 😁😁 If you just joined, please fill up this survey so we can better tailor the films we show. [https://forms.gle/juPwhehSV2NosLee9](https://forms.gle/juPwhehSV2NosLee9) PS - I can guarantee comfortable seating for 15 people. People in the waitlist can show up as well, because a lot of people sign up but don't show up. The event takes place at the Social Welfare organization called **MUT**. It is an organisation that works on social issues such as Emergency & Homeless Assistance, Food Rescue and Environment Protection. MUT is a non profit organization that provides us with the space to host the event. A small donation towards their cause helps them a lot.
Wachau Hike: Apricot Blossoms, Mammoth Trees & Göttweig Abbey
Wachau Hike: Apricot Blossoms, Mammoth Trees & Göttweig Abbey
Hi everyone, On **Saturday, April 4**, 2026, I’m planning a beautiful spring hike in the **UNESCO-Region Wachau** from **Paudorf** to the **Mammoth trees** (Sequoia trees, Redwood trees) and (hopefully) **blooming apricot tree gardens** near Angern to our final destination to **Göttweig abbey** (Stift Göttweig) in **Furth bei Göttweig**. This hike is all about walking, wide views, and enjoying the landscape together with plenty of time for conversation, short breaks, and simply being outdoors. **Highlights** 🌄Wide Wachau views combined with peaceful vineyard and apricot garden scenery 🏰Historic landmark Stift Göttweig/Göttweig Abbey 🌾Late March to mid-April is peak season for the famous Wachau MarillenblĂŒte (apricot blossoms). With a bit of luck, we’ll walk right through blooming apricot trees — one of the most beautiful sights of spring in Austria **Meeting Point & Travel** 📍 **Meeting point:** Westbahnhof station at **07:45 a.m.**, near the ticket machines on the upper floor close to the train platforms. Please buy your ticket individuallly before boarding the train. The best ticket choice for this trip by train is the **VOR Freizeitticket**. We will take the 08:18 train to St. Pölten and change there to a local train. Expected arrival time in Paudorf is 09:28 Trains back from Furth bei Göttweig run every hour **Hike Details** **Duration:** Approx. 5 hours (pure walking time) **Distance:** Approx. 17 km **Elevation:** 511 up **Difficulty:** **Easy** (technically), requires basic fitness Pace: Comfortable and social, with regular short breaks More information on the trail: We will more or less combine these two trails: * [https://www.bergfex.at/sommer/niederoesterreich/touren/wanderung/1081198,ueber-den-goettweiger-walderlebnisweg-zu-den-mammutbaeumen/](https://www.bergfex.at/sommer/niederoesterreich/touren/wanderung/1081198,ueber-den-goettweiger-walderlebnisweg-zu-den-mammutbaeumen/) * [https://www.bergfex.at/sommer/niederoesterreich/touren/wanderung/639222,kremser-rieden-und-wanderkarte--20-goettweig-wanderweg/](https://www.bergfex.at/sommer/niederoesterreich/touren/wanderung/639222,kremser-rieden-und-wanderkarte--20-goettweig-wanderweg/) **End of Hike & Optional Visit** I plan to end the hike at Göttweig Abbey, where we can optionally visit the museum. At the end of the hike, everyone can decide individually whether to stay with the group or travel back to Vienna independently. The restaurant at Göttweig Abbey may be open depending on our arrival time and seat availability. Göttweig Abbey is a 900-year-old Benedictine monastery overlooking the Danube. The museum features baroque highlights such as frescoes by Paul Troger and historic imperial rooms, and offers insight into monastic life and Austrian history. * **Museum entry:** €14 per person * **Free with:** NÖ Card [https://www.stiftgoettweig.at/portal/en/home](https://www.stiftgoettweig.at/portal/en/home) **What to Expect** We’ll walk together at a **relaxed, social pace**, staying as a group throughout the day. This is **not a race or performance hike** — the focus is on shared experience, conversation, and enjoying the landscape at an unhurried rhythm. We’ll take regular short breaks whenever useful. đŸ„Ș We don’t plan to stop at huts or restaurants during the hike, so please bring your own snacks and drinks (at least **1.5 liters of water**). đŸŒ§ïž Weather can be changeable, so **basic rain protection is recommended**. đŸ„Ÿ Please wear **sturdy hiking shoes**. Some sections may be muddy, depending on the weather. Please note that **there are no public toilets on the trail itself, only at the Abbey**. **Important Notes** ⚠ **Disclaimer:** As always, this is a free, private leisure activity. I’m not a certified hiking guide, and participation is at your own responsibility and risk. I will send a **weather update on Thursday evening** to everyone registered. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Looking forward to sharing this **spring day in the Wachau** with you 🌾 Jörg . . **Ticket information** The best ticket choice for this trip by train is likely to be the **VOR Freizeitticket**. It costs **€19.90** for the day in Lower Austria and covers ÖBB regional trains (trains operated by the *Wachaubahn*, displayed as **WHB** in the train schedules, are not included) and local buses in Lower Austria. 🔗 Information regarding this ticket: [https://www.vor.at/en/tickets/ticket-overview/leisure-ticket](https://www.vor.at/en/tickets/ticket-overview/leisure-ticket) And if this sounds complicated: it isn’t. Social Hike: Beethoven Hills + Seegrotte
Social Hike: Beethoven Hills + Seegrotte
Be inspired like Beethoven, who roamed these hills in 1814. After gathering at Vienna Main Station (Wien Hauptbahnhof) we'll catch a 20-minute train to a quaint municipality just outside Vienna. A short walk will lead us straight through town and up to its thick walled neo-Gothic church. There, we start our proper hike up and around this picturesque mountain with its token 12th-century castle, which also starred in Stephen Herek's "The Three Musketeers". Expect a lush pine forest, magnificent views and impressive medieval architecture. But that's not all. Underway we'll also take a detour to the nearby Seegrotte, Europe's largest underwater lake. A mystical place brimming with history. Price includes train tickets and friendly host. Entrance fee for the 1-hour Seegrotte guided tour and boat ride is \~EUR 18 (not included). To secure your spots, please ... Step 1: RSVP here on Meetup first (optional but recommended) Step 2: Complete your booking at https://vienna.ixpat.com/beethoven
Krems–DĂŒrnstein Panorama Loop: Spring Views & Castle Ruins
Krems–DĂŒrnstein Panorama Loop: Spring Views & Castle Ruins
Hi everyone, On **Sunday, April 5**, 2026, I’m planning a beautiful spring hike in the UNESCO World Heritage region of Wachau, following a scenic **circular route** **from Krems** via the Hohen Markstein, the FesslhĂŒtte and the famous **castle ruins of DĂŒrnstein**, before **returning to** **Krems**. Along the way, we pass quiet natural areas, historic stone vineyard terraces, and enjoy wide panoramic views before returning to the charming town of Krems. This hike is all about **walking, wide views, and enjoying the landscape together** — with plenty of time for conversation, short breaks, and simply being outdoors. **Fitness Note:** Although we will walk at a relaxed pace, the hike requires moderate physical effort due to its length (about 18 km). The trails themselves are not technically difficult, but a reasonable level of fitness is needed to comfortably complete the distance. **Highlights** 🌄 Beautiful walk from historic **Krems to DĂŒrnstein** through classic Wachau vineyard scenery đŸ˜ïž Charming old towns of **Krems and Stein** with narrow streets and centuries-old architecture 🏰 Visit the famous **castle ruins of DĂŒrnstein**, where King Richard the Lionheart was once imprisoned 🌾 Late March to mid-April is peak season for the famous **Wachau MarillenblĂŒte (apricot blossoms)**. With a bit of luck, we’ll walk right through blooming apricot trees — one of the most beautiful sights of spring in Austria **Meeting Point & Travel** 📍 **Meeting point:** Franz-Josefs-Bahn station at **07:30 a.m.**, near the ticket machines to buy the group ticket. If you arrive too late for the group ticket you have to buy your own ticket individually, the best choice is likely the **VOR Freizeitticket**. Information regarding the tickets at the end of the post. The train leaves at **08:00** from **Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof**. We will arrive in **Krems** at **09:08**. **Hike Details** **Duration:** Approx. 6.5 hours (pure walking time) **Distance:** Approx. 18 km **Elevation:** 300m up / 300m down **Difficulty:** **Medium** (partly considered demanding due to the length) More information on the trail: https://www.bahn-zum-berg.at/waldviertel/fesslrunde-von-krems/ Trains back from Krems to Vienna run every hour. **What to Expect** We’ll walk together at a **relaxed, social pace**, staying as a group throughout the day. 🩯 Trekking poles can be a great help for extra stability if we encounter any muddy patches. Please note that **there are no public toilets on the trail itself**. There is a public toilet in **DĂŒrnstein** before we start the hike and another one in **Krems** at the end. If we are lucky, we may also pass an open **Heuriger** along the way. Looking forward to sharing this **spring day in the Wachau** with you 🌾 Jörg . . **\*The "Einfach-raus" Group Ticket** We will use a group ticket, and it requires some coordination: **How it works:** It is one ticket for a group of 2–5 people. We will form these groups at the meeting point at 07:30; please be on time if you want to participate. You must travel together for both the departure and the return journey. You cannot split off and take a different train home if you are on a group ticket. **The cost:** The more people in a group, the cheaper it gets. Expect to pay between €10 and €19 per person. To be fair, we can either pay by specific group size or pool all the money and split it equally. **Cash is mandatory:** Please bring physical cash and coins. We need to collect the money before buying the tickets to make sure everyone gets their change back quickly. **Information regarding this ticket:** [https://www.oebb.at/en/tickets-kundenkarten/freizeit-urlaub/einfach-raus-ticket](https://www.oebb.at/en/tickets-kundenkarten/freizeit-urlaub/einfach-raus-ticket) If you prefer not to be tied to a group, or if you aren’t sure when you want to head back to Vienna, do not join the group ticket. Instead, buy the VOR Freizeitticket; it costs €19.90 for the day in Lower Austria. This will also be your option if you arrive too late for the group ticket or one group doesn't have enough participants for a group ticket. **Information regarding this ticket:** [https://www.vor.at/en/tickets/ticket-overview/leisure-ticket](https://www.vor.at/en/tickets/ticket-overview/leisure-ticket)

Speak Easy (Storytelling)
Speak Easy (Storytelling)
The topic for April is "Water" Speak Easy: true stories, told live. The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast. Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect. The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome. Hang around after the show for a drink and build community!
