Japanese Festival
We'll be going to the festival at the Japanese Cultural Centre where we'll see plenty of things such as cultural performances, food, arts and crafts, and a tea ceremony.
There will be martial artists demonstrations, there is traditional Japanese dancing and instruments such as drumming. There will be arts and crafts for sale as well as Japanese food. There is also a museum and art gallery at the centre.
We go to this every year and it's highly recommended. It's $13 if you pay in advance on line or $15 to pay by debit or credit at the door (NO CASH) and it's worth it. Pay online:

ASTORIA GREEK LUNCH SOCIAL
ď¸
Sunshine on a Plate in the Heart of Greektown
Maybe youâre skipping the walk.
Maybe you just want the reward.
Either way â come meet us for lunch
.
Weâre gathering at **Astoria Shish Kebob House**, a Greektown institution established in 1972 and one of the oldest, most beloved Greek restaurants in Toronto.
This isnât just lunch.
This is sizzling souvlaki arriving at the table.
This is lemon potatoes that deserve their own fan club.
This is grilled calamari, moussaka, warm pita, cool tzatziki, and that unmistakable buzz of a busy Greek dining room.
Astoria has been serving authentic Greek cuisine for over 50 years â long before âfoodie cultureâ was a thing. Itâs classic. Itâs generous. Itâs the kind of place where you leave full and a little bit happier than when you arrived.
And itâs even better when the table is full of friendly faces.
If youâve been meaning to try one of our events but didnât want to commit to a full walk â this is your perfect entry point. Just show up hungry and ready to chat.

Old New Toronto (11.3 km)
New Toronto is a neighbourhood in Etobicoke just west of the former limits of Toronto. It mushroomed in the early 20th century but today it looks older than old Toronto. The exception is the enclave of spiffy condos at Humber Bay Shores.
The biggest attraction here is the former Mimico Asylum, which now houses Humber College and a couple of ghosts. We won't explore the underground tunnels but we'll check out Toronto's largest open-air skating trail and loop around the historic buildings.
Going eastwards, we'll pass by Polish and British food places and an Australian cafe. The eclectic mix continues in Mimico, with an increasing Tibetan and Thai focus. It's also home to the best Ukrainian restaurant in the GTA.
The route winds through soaring condos at Humber Bay, the frozen lakeshore, and circles back from the iconic bridge marking the border of Etobicoke and old Toronto. From there, it's a short distance to either an exemplary Argentinean steakhouse for asado (barbecue) or a modern Chinese restaurant for spicy Sichuan claypot dishes.
**Highlights**
1. Assembly Hall (depart 2pm)
2. Colonel Samuel Smith Skating Trail
3. Humber College / Cumberland House / The Gatehouse
4. Zakopane Deli / Albatros Pub
5. Kitchen On Sixth
6. Eighth Street Skate Park / Bosnian Islamic Centre
7. The Sydney Grind (depart 2:50pm)
8. Prince of Wales Park
9. Mr. Momo
10. Pemako Kitchen / Barrel House Korchma
11. Asters Patisserie
12. Waterfront Trail
13. Humber Bay Park West Parking Lot (depart 4:05pm)
14. Eau Du Soleil
15. Chiang Mai Thai Kitchen
16. Humber Bay Arch Bridge
17. Vos Restaurante Argentino
18. Tis Two Cities (arrive 5:30pm)
**Neighbourhoods**
New Toronto > Mimico > Humber Bay Shores

**How it works**
Hike starts punctually. Late or can't do the whole route? Meet us at scheduled checkpoints.
We'll browse many food places but won't linger long. Grab ready-made food, or see the route in advance, organize takeout, then pickup along the way.
Not sure what to try? Join our omakase for $5, which gives a tiny sample from different restaurants. Payment on the day of event by cash or e-transfer to [globaltorontoeats@gmail.com.](http://globaltorontoeats@gmail.com.) No refunds after orders are placed. Details of sampled food will be uploaded after the hike.
Limited cutlery provided. Highly recommended to bring cutlery and containers for omakase and bringing back leftovers.

**DANFORTH WALK, BUTTERFLY MURAL & GREEK LUNCHď¸**
Street Culture, Public Art & A Proper Greek Feast
Thereâs something about the Danforth that feels like old-school Toronto in the best possible way â vibrant, layered, proudly local, and full of stories.
Join us for a social walk along one of the cityâs most iconic stretches: **Danforth Avenue**. As we stroll west toward downtown, weâll pass lively patios, long-standing family restaurants, cozy cafĂŠs, independent shops, and the everyday rhythm of a neighbourhood that has shaped Torontoâs cultural identity for generations.
This area is famously home to the annual **Taste of the Danforth**, one of the largest street festivals in the city â and historically, it was once home to the largest Greek community outside of Greece. You feel that history in the bakeries, the signage, the music drifting from open doors.
Itâs not just a walk.
I
tâs a little slice of Toronto heritage â experienced together.

Data & Analytics Wednesday - Google Analytics Alternatives
**Google Analytics Alternatives**
Is it finally time to make the switch away from Google Analytics? Two-and-a-half years ago Jason Packer asked this question at Columbus Web Analytics Wednesday.
Since then: Googleâs Universal Analytics has been sunset, weâve changed our name to Columbus Data & Analytics Wednesday, and Jason has released two editions of his book âGoogle Analytics Alternativesâ.
Fresh off the release of the 2nd edition of his book, we thought it was time to re-open this conversation. While people love to complain about it, GAâs market share has remained relatively constant (at least in the United States). Why is that? You wonât find any complaints about GA4 in this talk, but rather an overview of whatâs currently available in the market and how to frame your decision-making process.
Weâll also be giving out some free copies of Jasonâs book! So even if youâve got a âGA4Lyfeâ tattoo (no judgement), thereâs free books to go with the free pizza and beer.

Celebrate National Chip and Dip Day!
***Okay, call me crazy but you have got to try their chip n dip!*** Club 85 is a true hidden gem in German Village! Seriously, old school, good comfort food and drink. We will try to gather in spaces near the windows. While we'll share Chip n Dip, you'll want to order a sandwich, too.
**Where the Chip Began (1817)**
Potato chips can be traced back to an English chef, William Kitchiner, who includes âcrispsâ in his bestselling cookbook, âThe Cookâs Oracle.â
**Chip and Dip Popularity**
The popularity of chip and dip skyrockets at the end of World War II with new entertainment fads and the introduction of Liptonâs new advertising campaign for their famous French Onion Dip. (Club 185 doesn't openly admit it, but I'm pretty sure that's their dip recipe!)
**[Club 185](http://club185.com/)**âa true neighborhood bar serving since 1954, when it was known as a local 'speak-easy'. Located in German Village, Club 185 features a menu of quality casual comfort food and full bar. From politicians to lawyers, hardhats to hipstersâall find Club 185 the perfect place to tame their hunger and quench their thirst!
**PARKING**: I know, brick street parallel parking can be a pain. Two other choices, metered parking along Livingston heading towards Children's Hospital or across the street in the large church lot (park in spaces farthest away from the church entrance doors, closer to the street).
**PRE-EVENT**: **HAPPY HOUR (3-5pm)**: Italian drinks and bites at [Cento's happy hour](https://centogermanvillage.com/menus/), nearby.
