💘 The Post‑Valentine’s “Last‑Minute Love Grab” Party - Lustre Bar - Fri 20 💕
**💘 Eat, Drink & Dance Melbourne: The Pre‑Valentine’s “Last‑Minute Love Grab” Party** 💘
Friday 20 February
7:00pm – 10:30pm
Lustre Bar, Flinders Lane
**##### !! Update - Moved to Fri 20 Feb**
Melbourne, assemble your charm, your courage, and your most persuasive eyebrow raise — because Valentine’s Day has come and gone, and this is your final chance to secure a date before the city descends into roses, prix‑fixe menus, and smug couples holding hands like they invented affection.
Join us at Lustre Bar, where the cocktails sparkle, the lighting forgives, and the mood is set firmly to romantic chaos. This is a night for the bold, the hopeful, the delightfully unhinged, and anyone who refuses to spend Saturday eating supermarket chocolate and tubs of ice cream like a lonely Chewbacca on the couch (again).
**⚠️Expect**:
* Flirty icebreakers that make “So what do you do?” feel like a relic of a more boring civilisation
* Silly mini‑games designed to nudge strangers into becoming “entangled parties of interest”
* A soundtrack calibrated for maximum swoon‑potential
* A room full of people who are also pretending they’re “just here for fun”
By 10pm, those who have successfully paired, tangled, or otherwise conspired with another human will be invited to continue the adventure as we spill into a dance venue of our choosing. Think of it as the Valentine’s Migration: a flock of seagulls abd romantically‑charged humans moving gracefully (or not) toward a dance floor where destiny, chemistry, and questionable rhythm await.
Whether you leave with a Valentine, a new crush, or simply a great story, you’ll be in excellent company.
**Dress code**: Cute, confident, or chaotically optimistic.
**Vibe**: Romantic comedy meets mild social experiment.
**Goal**: Snatch a Valentine before the clock strikes midnight on Cupid’s deadline.
Come for the cocktails. Stay for the chemistry. Dance for the glory.

Thought Experiment: Dead Hand
Ever wondered how humanity would respond to an asteroid heading for Earth? Or how the world might react to first contact with aliens?
Welcome to **The Thought Experiment** — a new kind of meetup where we explore big *“What if…?”* scenarios in a fun but thoughtful way. Each session, we’ll pick one scenario (from global crises to wild sci-fi situations) and work together to imagine solutions, strategies, and possibilities.
This is for **curious minds of all kinds** — students, professionals, creatives, or anyone who enjoys thinking differently. Some people might bring research, others just bring imagination. Either way, we’ll brainstorm together and see where the discussion takes us.
[Thought Experiment Site](https://thoughtexperiment.au/)
**We ask everyone to Buy a drink at the venue**
**You Need to have Conversational English.**
**This is a 3PM start event.**
**Format:**
* Quick intro to the scenario
* Small-group discussions
* Share back with the group
* Wrap up + (optional) post-discussion drinks
For our first meetup, we’ll introduce the format, get to know each other, and jump into a scenario together.
***Story Arc: Apocalypse***
Keywords: *War, Escalation, Brinksmanship*
**Scenario: Dead Hand**
It is the year 2029.
A war has escalated.
The United States and NATO are now in open conflict
with Russia — and China.
It didn’t begin with a nuclear strike.
It began with a tactical decision,
justified, limited, and meant to prevent something worse.
Every escalation model said it would stop there.
None of them ever do.
You are deep inside Cheyenne Mountain,
where the difference between deterrence and annihilation
is measured in minutes.
No one has lost control.
This is how mutually assured destruction actually happens —
not through madness,
but through reasonable people refusing to blink.
Oxford Scholar — Saturday, 3 to 5 PM.
A small group. Big imagination.
No right answers.
Just curiosity, debate and fun.

The Monomyth - Exploring the Hero's Journey
Together we will explore the Hero’s Journey (Monomyth) as a guide to personal transformation. Most epic stories follow a similar pattern. An ordinary person faces a challenge, goes through trials, and emerges on the other side transformed.
The first session is an overview of the Heroes Journey; we will follow Luke Skywalker ala Star Wars. This session will give participants the opportunity to self-reflect as we go through the stages based on the model created by Joseph Campbell.
After the break - the second session - we invite you to take a deeper dive, through meditation, self-reflection and group ritual; you are welcome to bring a small object that holds meaning for the Temanos.

Let's Visit Box Hill!
This year's Lunar New Year starts on 17 February.
So in honour of the Year of the Horse and having listened to your suggestions for the letter B, we're going to Box Hill.
**ITINERARY (TBC)**
11am - Meet at the entrance of Box Hill Train Station.
This is the plan:
* Visit Fo Guang Shan Box Hill Temple
* Yumcha for lunch (or equivalent Asian food)
* See a lion dance together (if there's one when we're there)
* Visit an Asian supermarket.
In short, we're going to wander around and soak up the Lunar New Year ambience, Box Hill style.
P.S. There's an organizer fee of $10 for this event.
You can PayID me at 0403 413 056 (Serena Low).
**Note:**
I am capping the group at 9 persons to fit a round table in a Chinese restaurant and because yumcha servings typically come in threes.
If you are no longer able to attend, please update your status to Not Going.

Lonnie Morgan will be presenting information about the DLT Library.
"The Python library `dlt` provides a powerful [REST API toolkit](https://dlthub.com/docs/dlt-ecosystem/verified-sources/rest_api/basic) to ingest data. Combined with our [LLM scaffolds](https://dlthub.com/workspace) and [MCP server](https://dlthub.com/docs/hub/features/mcp-server), you can build a custom connector for any of the 8k+ available sources in 10 minutes by following this guide. Building with LLMs is an iterative process. We will follow this general workflow and give practical tips for each step."

Spec-Driven Development with GitHub Spec-Kit - Barret Blake
**Important time note:** Please plan on arriving between 5:30 and 6:00 as the elevators lock after 6 and you'll need to message us and we'll need to come get you.
The building address is 4450 Bridge Park
The entrance is 6620 Mooney St, Suite 400
You will need to scan your ID at the door to get a visitor badge.
**Abstract**
*Spec-Driven Development with GitHub Spec-Kit: From Intent to Implementation*
Spec-driven development flips the traditional workflow on its head: instead of code being the source of truth, the specification becomes the backbone of design, collaboration, and delivery. In this session, we’ll explore how GitHub Spec-Kit enables teams to treat specifications as first-class artifacts—living documents that drive architecture, implementation, and verification.
You’ll learn how Spec-Kit helps teams clearly express intent using structured, version-controlled specs that live alongside code. We’ll walk through a practical workflow that starts with defining system behavior and constraints, then progressively refines those specs into testable, automatable outcomes. Along the way, we’ll show how specs can reduce ambiguity, improve cross-functional collaboration, and make design decisions explicit before a single line of production code is written.
This talk will cover:
--What spec-driven development is (and what it isn’t)
--How GitHub Spec-Kit fits into modern developer workflows
--Using specs to align product, engineering, and AI-assisted development
--Real-world examples of turning specs into implementations with confidence
Whether you’re building greenfield systems, integrating AI into your stack, or trying to reduce costly rework, spec-driven development offers a scalable way to move faster without sacrificing clarity. Attendees will leave with concrete patterns and a clear mental model for adopting GitHub Spec-Kit in their own projects.
