Explore Spring AI & RAG
[English version below]
Cześć,
Mam ogromną przyjemność zaprosić Was na pierwsze spotkanie organizowane wspólnie z łódzkim oddziałem **EPAM**. W planach dwie prezetacje odnośnie AI: **Java RAG: Build Your Own Black Box** oraz **Spring AI**.
**Ważna uwaga: spotkanie wyjątkowo zaczyna się o 17:30!**
Hi,
I’m very happy to invite you to our first meetup, which is being organized in collaboration with the Łódź branch of EPAM. We have two AI-related talks planned: **Java RAG: Build Your Own Black Box** and **Spring AI**.
**Important note:** this meetup will **start at 17:30**.
**Spring AI**
Transforming your existing Java applications into intelligent, AI-driven systems no
longer requires a PhD in Data Science or switching to Python. In this session, we
explore how Spring AI brings the familiar power of the Spring ecosystem - portability,
modularity, and POJO-based design - directly into the world of Artificial Intelligence.
We’ll move beyond basic API calls to show how you can harness Large Language
Models (LLMs) like OpenAI and Google Gemini using the same @Service and
dependency injection patterns you use every day. We will provide an overview of the
major capabilities and also dive into the latest Spring AI v2 milestones that position Java
at the forefront of the agentic AI wave.
By the end of this talk, you’ll see how Spring AI acts as a bridge that allows Java
developers to build production-ready, intelligent features without reinventing the wheel.
**Dzmitry Sidarenka**
Dzmitry has nearly 20 years of experience specializing in systems built with
Java. He is passionate about building and testing robust APIs and is known for thriving in
high-pressure production incident troubleshooting. His work focuses on designing
reliable, maintainable services and improving system resilience through pragmatic
engineering practices.
**Java RAG: Build Your Own Black Box**
Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) often feels like a magical black box. But once
you start experimenting with it yourself, it quickly becomes clear how powerful the
combination of information retrieval and generative AI can be.
Key topics:
\- What is Retrieval\-Augmented Generation \(RAG\)?
\- Why should you consider using it in your own projects?
\- Key RAG components and how the workflow operates
\- How to build your own RAG solution using Java
\- Live demo of a Java\-based RAG project and ways to extend and improve it
**Ahmed Samy**
Ahmed is a Senior Software Engineer at EPAM Systems. As he jokes, he often
feels like a junior at work - mostly thanks to his constant curiosity and desire to keep
learning new things.
In his daily work, he actively uses AI as a learning companion, exploring new ideas by
experimenting, testing different approaches, and working with various pieces of code.
**About the partner**
EPAM is a global leader in AI transformation engineering and integrated consulting,
serving Forbes Global 2000 companies and ambitious startups. With over thirty years of

Leipzig Gophers #58 - Agentic Coding with Beads
## Beads: Go Open Source Projects in the Age of AI
Hello, 世界!
For meetup #58 on Tuesday [Mar 31, 2026 19:00 CET](https://www.meetup.com/leipzig-golang/events/312537698/) we are happy to have [Akim Zmerli](https://www.linkedin.com/in/akimzmerli/) give us an intro to [beads](https://github.com/steveyegge/beads), specifically:
> How agents perform long-running tasks and pass context seamlessly to each other. [Beads](https://github.com/steveyegge/beads) is a rising Go project that brings structured planning to any workflow, whether agentic or hands-on. [Akim Zmerli](https://www.linkedin.com/in/akimzmerli/) will present his favorite techniques, TUI projects and what Rob Pike thinks about the current state of affairs.
The beads project is less than six months old (2025-10-11), but already well beyond 250 KLOC, with more than 200 KLOC written in Go.
We are always interested in developer tools. At [#44](https://golangleipzig.space/posts/meetup-44-wrapup/), less than two years ago, not a single AI coding tool did make it to [our list](https://golangleipzig.space/posts/meetup-44-wrapup/).
Looking forward to this foray into the agentic coding space.
### Schedule
* 18:45 Doors open
* 19:00 Welcome

American Sign Language Beginners Meetup Group
We meet to learn and practice American Sign Language and to grow our familiarity with Deaf culture. Facilitated by hearing folks (with a connection to a professional interpreter) using Deaf-created content. People of all ASL skill levels are welcome! As we learn, we hope to connect more with the Deaf community in Central Ohio. Join us as you're able!
Come regularly or just once - whatever you're looking for! Each meetup will explore different topics related to ASL/Deaf culture, and will feature time to practice conversation with one another. Just bring yourself and a willingness to learn!
Board games at The Forge
The Forge does have a full bar and kitchen. There is no cover charge but they do request all attendees to purchase a minimum of ~$20 per person. Soft drink refills are $1 each. Please support our hosts so we can continue to provide great events for the group!
The Forge has a large library of games available for us to enjoy. Hosts and regulars will also provide numerous popular games but please bring any games you would like to teach and/or play.
Doors open at 6, and we expect gaming to be rolling by around 630. Please promptly end your games and clear out the space at 10pm when the bar closes.
We encourage socializing but do not permit disruptive behavior of any kind. Thank you for your continued commitment to providing a fun and welcoming space to veteran, newbie, and rookie gamers in the Columbus area.
Parking can be challenging. There is a parking lot behind the neighboring Mexican restaurant that is free and easy to walk from but it's a bit hidden.
