Stadtwanderweg 6: Gentle Hills & a Start to Spring
Stadtwanderweg 6: Gentle Hills & a Start to Spring
Hi everyone! On **Saturday, March 7, 2026**, I’m planning a relaxed early-spring hike along **Stadtwanderweg 6 – Zugberg & Maurer Wald** in the south of Vienna. This route takes us through quiet forest paths, gentle hills, and open clearings with beautiful views towards the Vienna Basin and the Wienerwald. It’s a lovely mix of nature, culture, and calm atmosphere. **What makes this hike special** ⛪ Wotruba Church (Kirche zur Heiligsten Dreifaltigkeit) 🌌Sterngarten Georgenberg (Open-Air Planetarium) 🌄Zugberg & Mitzi-Langer-Wand 🌳 Maurer Wald & Eichwiese ⛪ Bergkirche Rodaun This hike is ideal if you want a moderate workout without technical difficulty. The trails are well marked and mostly easy, but you should feel comfortable walking for several hours. **Meeting Point** 📍**Rodaun – Tram 60 Terminus** 09:00 a.m. Please arrive a few minutes early so we can start calmly together. **Hike Details** Duration: approx. 4 hours (pure walking time) Distance: approx. 13–15 km (depending on small variations) Elevation: approx. 350–400 m ascent Difficulty: Easy (technically), requires basic fitness Pace: Comfortable and social, with regular short breaks https://www.bergfex.at/sommer/wien/touren/wanderung/870506,stadtwanderweg-6--zugberg--maurer-wald-lt-beschilderung **Group Pace and Staying Together** **Friendly reminder:** This is a social hike, not a speed competition. We will walk at a relaxed group pace. If you prefer to walk much faster, this might not be the right hike for you. Staying roughly together helps with navigation, safety, and group feeling. Thank you for helping create a supportive and inclusive atmosphere for everyone. **Practical Notes** I’ll send a weather update on Thursday evening to everyone who’s registered. Early March can feel like spring — or like winter returning for one last surprise. 🥾 Wear sturdy hiking shoes 🧥 Dress in layers 💧 Bring at least 1 liter of water 🥪 Bring your own snacks (there is no planned restaurant stop) Some sections may be muddy depending on the weather. **Disclaimer** As always, this is a free, private leisure activity. I’m not a certified hiking guide, and participation is at your own responsibility and risk. If you enjoy forest air, gentle hills, and a calm Saturday outdoors, you’re very welcome to join. Looking forward to seeing you! Jörg

Social Book Club - Science Fiction Circle 🪐
Social Book Club - Science Fiction Circle 🪐
Heyho and welcome to our cozy Science Fiction Circle which is part of the Social Book Club! We meet every month to discuss one book (or short story). This time we read the hard science fiction novel **"Echopraxia" (2014)** by the Canadian author **Peter Watts**, sequel of the book "Blindsight", which we already discussed in November. It's not necessary to have read the first part, but it helps to understand some concepts that are not explained in the second. Anyway please read at least "Echopraxia" before the book club, to follow the discussion. We meet at IKEA Westbahnhof at JOE&JOE'S in the 5th floor. Drinks and some food can be bought there.

Shut Up & Write!® - Sundays at Café Pierre
Shut Up & Write!® - Sundays at Café Pierre
Come write with us at Cafe Pierre every Sunday at 18:00-20:00! A message from Shut Up & Write: "Shut Up & Write hosts free, in-person and online writing events for writers all over the world. Our goal is to ensure that every writer—regardless of genre or skill level—has access to the resources, community, and accountability that they need to be successful in their personal writing goals." And what this looks like at our event: We chat and give short introductions to what we are working on at 18:00, then start writing at 18:15. Though we try to start on dot, being late isn't a problem—just find a spot and get to work! We write until 20:00 and then discuss how our writing went. From fiction to non-fiction, academic papers to poetry, applications to work-related writing—anything goes! Nothing is needed except for you to bring whatever is need to get stuff done, i.e. laptop, headphones, pen and paper, and so on. Optional socialising may happen before 18:00 and after 20:00, or you may choose to use this time to get some more done! Please do order something from the café (drink, meal, dessert, etc.) so as to keep us in their good graces!
