From Fort to Faith\*\*: A journey through Singapore’s church history and living witness. This walk begins at \*\* Fort Canning\*\*, where colonial power once sat at the center of early Singapore, and follows a path through some of the city’s historic churches before ending at a welcoming community space for shared reflection. From Fort Canning, the route moves to the \*\*Armenian Apostolic Church\*\*, a reminder of the small but influential migrant communities that helped shape colonial Singapore. It then continues to the \*\*Cathedral of the Good Shepherd\*\*, one of the oldest Catholic churches in the country, before heading to the \*\*Church of Saints Peter and Paul at Queen Street\*\*, which reflects the growth of diverse Catholic communities in the city. The walk concludes at *Crossing Café* at the \*\*Catholic Centre, Waterloo Street\*\*, as a final stop to support special need cafe, participants can also sit down over a meal and reflect together on the journey—from colonial power and early church foundations to the continuing work of community, inclusion, and care in Singapore today. We are also privileged to be led by licensed guide Jeremy Gwee with a passionate interest for interpreting places, people, and faith in meaningful ways, from whom we have already enjoyed and learned much during his last guided tour of St Andrew’s Cathedral. **Please read this:** #1 – Attendance. Meet: Buona Vista (Green Line) level 2 MRT Passenger Service Centre When: Thursday 11 June 5 pm \*\*This is a Rain or Shine event. Please take a good lunch or bring along some snacks if you feel hungry along the way. Please be punctual. You are encouraged to be slightly early to avoid disappointments. There will be 5 minutes grace for attendance taking. Please remember that we cannot wait because this would be unfair to those already present. This Meetup group is a community-led group by volunteers. Please extend grace in areas of inadequacy. You are most welcome to give constructive feedback; we strive for improvement! Start our journey from Buona Vista as we walk along the Ulu Pandan connector towards Jurong East. The Ulu Pandan Park Connector has an amazing array of biodiversity, such as the Grey Heron (*Andrea cinerea*) and the White-throated Kingfisher (*Halcyon smyrnensis*). Along the way, view the now-defunct railway truss bridge across Sungei Ulu Pandan, part of the old Jurong line. A family of otters lives there too! If you are lucky, you will get to see them. We will end our journey at the Jurong East Mall for dinner. Sign-ups *are only confirmed after contacting us and joining the WA group! \**** Gunung Berembun Jelebu (1,014m) is an interesting hike with the chance of visiting a WWII plane crash site, while hiking through a dense rainforest with waterfalls and streams, and fallen trees. There are many "Gunung Berembun" but this is the one located in Negiri Sembilan! We will be doing the classic route via Kampung Pantai. It is considered a full day hike, slightly shorter than Ophir. This is usually used as a training hike, and exposure to different elements and exploring a more raw trail, rather than a hike for the view itself. **Who is this for?** * It is most suitable for those who just want an interesting full-day hike out similar to Ophir, but less curated than the usual ones. * It serves as a good training or progressive hike for those who wish to do more hiking. Most do it as general training for hikes. * Wish to experience a more raw rainforest trail with less crowds, and different elements * Wish to do a full-day hike nearby without travelling so far * Wish to see a WWII plane crash site and wreckage * Not for those who are hunting for a beautiful viewpoint at the summit **How tough is it/How fit do I have to be?** Duration: \~5h up, and 4h down. You can u-turn at the summit instead of going to the crash site. Distance: \~7km one way, total of 14km. It is generally tropical forest trail, with some river, rope portions. However, if you have done other Malaysia hikes before like Gunung Datuk/Lambak/Ophir before, the terrain is not that much of a surprise, except it is more raw. With the presence of streams, please do expect leeches! To confirm, do RSVP and send me a whatsapp message! A Whatsapp group will be set up. Do make sure you're in the WA group if you're going. This is in the main mall where the Microsoft store used to be, on your left if you're standing at the bottom of the AMC Theater escalator. Join us on Saturday for an hour of uninterrupted wordmaking! • What we'll do Join us for an hour of writing! We’ve discovered that it’s strikingly helpful to write with other writers. See if it’s true for you at 10AM on Saturday mornings. Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done. SCHEDULE: 10:00 - SESSION 1: quick intros. 10:10 - timer starts: write for 1 hour. 11:10 - chat / take off / keep writing. OPTIONAL SOCIALIZING happens at 11A-11:30ish. Writing is very solitary. Stranded in one of the harshest environments on Earth, the men endure months of isolation, freezing temperatures, and near starvation—yet refuse to give up hope. Lansing brings their ordeal to life through vivid detail and firsthand accounts, capturing both the brutality of nature and the resilience of the human spirit. At its core, the story is a powerful testament to leadership, perseverance, and the unbreakable will to survive against impossible odds. Looking forward to discussing with everyone!
