Church on Sunday (Worship in English)
**Join Us for Sunday Worship at the American Church in Berlin!**
The American Church in Berlin (ACB) is an **ecumenical Protestant congregation** where people from *many* Christian traditions worship together—Lutheran, Reformed/Presbyterian, Anglican/Episcopal, Methodist, Baptist, non-denominational, Roman Catholic, and even a few Eastern Orthodox members. Wherever you come from, you’ll find a place where you can feel at home.
Our worship is **traditional and liturgical**, rooted in the rich patterns of the Christian church and easy for both Protestants and Roman Catholics to enjoy. We celebrate **Holy Communion every Sunday and every festival day**, and all baptized Christians are welcome at the Lord’s Table.
ACB is an **extraordinarily diverse congregation**, with members from around the world. On any given Sunday you’ll find long-time Berlin residents, young adults, teenagers who attend on their own, families with children, seniors, and many visitors and tourists passing through the city.
Our community is known for its **warm and friendly fellowship**—it’s one of the things people talk about most after visiting. Some folks dress formally and others show up in jeans and sneakers; we sit side by side without judgment. **Come exactly as you are.**
Most importantly: **our welcome is for everybody—EVERYBODY.** If you’re looking for a church home, a place to pray, just looking to connect, or simply a peaceful hour of worship during your travels, you’re invited.
We’d love to welcome you this Sunday!

May book selection: Perfection by Vincenzo Latronico
In May, we delve into a story that can depict any of our lives...Perfection by Vincenzo Latronico, set in Berlin in our times.
And about a couple of expats. Like many of us.
**About the Book**
*Perfection f*ollows a couple — Anna and Tom — from southern Europe who move to **Berlin** hoping to build a modern, fulfilling life as digital creatives. On the surface, they live what many would envy: a stylish flat, freelance work they enjoy, houseplants, and image-curated lives shared online. But beneath the curated image lies something quite different...
This novel is the "perfect" mirror (forgive the pun here) held up to contemporary life — illustrating how the pursuit of beauty, freedom, and individuality can sometimes lead to the opposite: sameness, dissatisfaction, and a sense of life lived *for the frame*.
**About the Author**
**Vincenzo Latronico** is an Italian novelist, translator, essayist, and critic, born in Rome in 1984. He studied philosophy in Milan before beginning his career as a writer and translator.
His prose is known for observational clarity, minimalist dialogue, and a blend of narrative with cultural reflection — qualities that make his work feel at once literary and sharply attuned to contemporary life.
**About the event: Commitment fee**
To help ensure accurate attendance and make event planning sustainable, a commitment fee of **€2** is required to confirm your participation.
Unfortunately, at a recent event, several participants registered but did not attend or provide any notice. As organizing these meetings requires time, preparation, and resources, this small fee helps encourage reliable RSVPs and attendance.
The fee is **non-refundable** if you choose not to attend or do not show up.
However, if the event is cancelled by the organizer or rescheduled to a date that prevents you from attending, your fee will be refunded promptly after the change is announced.
For special circumstances, like waking up sick and having to cancel last minute, you can write me a private message and we'll transfer the fee to a next event you indicate.
You can send the fee here:
Please include your MeetUp name in the payment note so I can identify your registration.
If you can no longer attend, or if you prefer not to pay the commitment fee, please update your RSVP as soon as possible so your spot can be made available to others.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
**About the Location**
We will meet in Merienda Haus, a wonderful cosy coffee shop offering Argentinean and Uruguayan specialities. I invite you to order something and enjoy their drinks and food menu :=)

Crossroads: The mundane and The Romantic
Beethoven is remembered for his incredible contributions to Western classical music, a music so beautiful that I myself struggle to hold back tears, yet he struggled with landlords, custody over familial relations and women.
Ramanujan revolutionised mathematics forever, yet struggled with an incurable disease and downright racism during his time in Cambridge and other so-called "mundane" things of life.
Like them, many such great minds in history have their story presented to us with such romanticism that we tend to overlook the fact that they were still humans like us, with simple everyday issues, along with their great work and activities which defined their life and what they are now known for.
How shall one find balance between an intellectual activity, a heightened state of mind, thinking across time and the frustrating things like plumbing issues?
Hence, for this meetup, the topic is the crossroads between the mundane and the romantic.

Impressions: Instagram: **[@Pausify (Co-Reading Space)](https://www.instagram.com/pausify_org/)**
Events happen every Sat and Sun at 11 AM.
Bring along your **current book to read** (or something **creative** to work on) and join us for this mix of a shared focus time + discussion.
\- 11:00\-11:30 \- Meet & greet
\- 11:30\-12:30 \- Silent focus time
\- 12:30 \- Discussion of books/ projects over coffee
Afterwards, join for lunch if you'd like (optional).
**Drinks & snacks are included** ☕️
* **To reserve your place, a ticket (€9,90/event) or a community pass (only €17,90/MONTH) [from the website ](https://pausify.org/)*www.pausify.org* is required**
* **Attendance here doesn’t show all sign-ups from other platforms. We usually have about 50 to 100 people at each event.**
***FAQ: Why does it cost money if I bring my own project?***
Because we rent a beautiful, central space for every event. Ever thought your monthly apartment rent was too high? Well, multiply that – that’s what commercial spaces in big cities like Berlin cost *per hour*.
Of course, if all you want is just some quiet time, your home or a library is perfect. But if you’d like to focus & connect with others in an inspiring space – with drinks, snacks included – that’s what your ticket helps to cover.
See pics from our events below - and on our Instagram: **[@Pausify (Co-Reading Space)](https://www.instagram.com/pausify_org/) ☕️**

Blood on the Clocktower at Manifesto! (beginner/intermediate)
Hi folks, this is the meetup group for the weekly Sunday Blood on the Clocktower games in the Soot bar in Manifesto at Potsdamer Platz. We run beginner-friendly and intermediate-level games throughout the afternoon and evening. **Friendly newcomers of all skill levels are welcome, no experience required!**
Our group aims to provide a fun and welcoming space to experience this thrilling game of social deception. **We focus on promoting a positive and fun group atmosphere, where players don’t take themselves or the game too seriously, whether they’re heroically winning or spectacularly losing.** Our players follow the code of conduct for the Berlin Board Gamers group and are expected to treat each other with respect and consideration – “killing with grace, and dying with dignity”.
We are usually able to offer two simultaneous games on Sundays. If you are marked as "attending" in Meetup and are in your seat at 15:00, your place is guaranteed for as long as you want to stay. All other seats are first come, first served. We always run at least one beginner-friendly game of the basic version of Clocktower ("Trouble Brewing") throughout the afternoon and evening. We also usually have enough players for a second intermediate-level game. If you are already very familiar with Clocktower, consider also joining our Tuesday meetup for advanced players, when we play with complex custom scripts and characters.
Blood on the Clocktower is a deep, mechanical game of murder and mystery, lies and logic, deduction and deception… think Werewolf on steroids. Each player receives a unique secret role and plays either for the good team – the uninformed majority, gathering info and working with others to solve the puzzle – or the evil team, the informed minority, scheming to eliminate good players and protect their demon from execution. In our beginner games no prior experience is expected and we will gladly explain the game rules to any newcomers.
We play in English so players should be able to understand and express themselves in English: an exception is possible for one pair of players willing to play together (as a “Revolutionary” pair) where one player can interpret into and out of English. Please let us know in advance if this is the case.
We are very grateful to the wonderful folks at Manifesto for hosting our meetup! **Please support the venue during your visit by buying drinks and/or food.**

Book summary:
On a hot day in Bethlehem, a twelve-year-old Palestinian-American girl is yelled at by a group of men outside the Church of the Nativity. She has exposed her legs in a biblical city, an act they deem forbidden, and their judgement will echo on through her adolescence. When our narrator finally admits to her mother that she is queer, her mother's response only intensifies a sense of shame: 'You exist too much,' she tells her daughter. Told in vignettes that flash between the U.S. and the Middle East--from New York to Jordan, Lebanon, and Palestine--Zaina Arafat's debut novel traces her protagonist's progress from blushing teen to sought-after DJ and aspiring writer.
