The organizers will make adjustments as needed to ensure the walk remains enjoyable and manageable for all participants. Do drop me a message via whatsapp or via meetup if you will be late. You may consider the following: 1\. Comfortable Clothing • Moisture-wicking fabrics: Avoid cotton, as it traps moisture and causes chafing. Instead, choose clothing made from materials like polyester, nylon, or merino wool, which keep you dry.
 • Comfortable socks: Opt for moisture-wicking socks with cushioning to reduce the risk of blisters. 2\. Proper Footwear
 • Well-fitting shoes: Ensure your shoes are properly broken in and provide enough support, especially if you're walking long distances. Sturdy hiking or walking shoes with good arch support are ideal.
 • Blister prevention: Consider blister-resistant socks or pack blister pads to address any discomfort before it becomes a problem. 3\. Hydration
 • Water bottle: Stay hydrated throughout the walk to maintain energy levels and prevent dehydration. 4\. Snacks
 • Energy bars or trail mix: Portable, nutrient-packed snacks high in carbohydrates and protein—perfect for refueling during breaks.
 • Nuts or dried fruit: Easy to carry and great for providing long-lasting energy. 5\. Umbrella
• Umbrella: Bring one in case of rain to stay dry and comfortable\. 6\. Optional Gear
 • Tissues or wet wipes: Handy for personal hygiene or cleaning your hands after eating or drinking. 7\. Small Backpack or Waist Pack
 • Use a small, comfortable bag to carry your essentials. Ensure it fits snugly and doesn’t rub or chafe over time. Disclaimer:
By participating in this walk, you acknowledge and accept that you are responsible for your own physical well-being. Please exercise caution while walking, and listen to your body. If you feel unwell at any point, please inform the organizer and discontinue participation. Walking involves inherent risks, including the potential for personal injury. The Takaichi's Supermajority: What’s Next for Japan And The World?
Japan just held a historic House of Representatives election on 8th February, 2026, where Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) secured a landslide victory. With the LDP securing a historic two-thirds supermajority under Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, Japan’s political landscape has shifted dramatically. What does this mean for the future of the country, and its role on the global stage? We are excited to welcome **Tai Ying Wu**, a history enthusiast with an academic background from Germany, who will break down the complexities of Japanese party platforms, offer an in-depth look at **Sanae Takaichi**, and analyze the potential shifts in Asian geopolitics. Following her presentation, we will transition into a community-led discussion to share insights and explore the results together.

Seletar Reservoirs Walk
Seletar Reservoirs Walk
Meet: Khatib MRT (NS14) Passenger Service Centre When: Sunday March 8th 5 pm\*\* Sign up here: https://www.eventbrite.sg/e/seletar-reservoirs-walk-tickets-1983153235713?aff=oddtdtcreator \*\*This is a Rain or Shine event. Please take a good lunch or bring along some snacks if you feel hungry along the way. Our walks are usually between 8 - 12 km long. Just so you know, the weather may be hot but as the sun sets, the weather should be cooler. Please be punctual. You are encouraged to be slightly early to avoid disappointments. There will be 5 minutes grace for attendance taking. Please remember that we cannot wait because this would be unfair to those already present. This Meetup group is a community-led group by volunteers. Please extend grace in areas of inadequacy. You are most welcome to give constructive feedback; we strive for improvement! Upper Seletar Reservoir was formerly known as the *Seletar Reservoir*, before the completion of the [Lower Seletar Reservoir](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lower_Seletar_Reservoir) near [Nee Soon](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yishun), formed by the [damming](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dam) up of the [mouth](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/River_mouth) of Seletar River, in 1986. The Seletar Reservoir was built to meet the surge in water demand after [World War I](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_I). Built while [D. J. Murnane](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D._J._Murnane) was Municipal Water Engineer, a contemporary description of the project scope and construction in 1939 is included in the footnote.[\[1\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upper_Seletar_Reservoir#cite_note-1) The construction work was overseen by Murnane's deputy F. G. Hill. It was completed in 1940 and officially opened on 10 August 1969 by [Princess Alexandra](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Princess_Alexandra,_The_Honourable_Lady_Ogilvy). Lower Seletar Reservoir was constructed under the Sungei Seletar/[Bedok](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bedok) Water Scheme, completed in 1986. The scheme involved the [damming of Sungei Seletar](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yishun_Dam) to form Lower Seletar Reservoir, the creation of [Bedok Reservoir](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bedok_Reservoir) from a former sand [quarry](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quarry) and the construction of Bedok Waterworks. Its unique feature was the construction of nine stormwater collection stations to tap the storm [runoffs](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surface_runoff) of the surrounding urbanised catchments. Eight of these collection stations are ponds at [Yishun](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yishun), [Tampines](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tampines), [Bedok](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bedok) and Yan Kit. Join us as we explore the Seletar Reservoirs! There's captivating greenery, Instagram-worthy pictures, and a "Rocket Tower" to be explored! The most eye-catching feature at Upper Seletar Reservoir Park is its futuristic lookout tower. This was built in 1969, the same year that astronauts from the NASA’s Apollo 11 space mission landed on the moon’s lunar surface. It was the age of exploration and space fever was gripping the world. Sources: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upper_Seletar_Reservoir https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lower_Seletar_Reservoir https://www.littledayout.com/upper-seletar-reservoir-park-rocket-tower-playground-lookout/ See you there! :-) What to bring: \- Shades \- umbrellas \- Water \- Good walking shoes \- Long pants preferred \- Mosquito Repellent This is a Rain or Shine event. Where there are thunderstorms, we will adjourn for coffee or early dinner. We will resume the walk once the rain subsides. Event communication will be through the event comments section. Please check the event comments section on the day of the event so that you will be updated on any changes. Please try to be punctual. There will be 5 minutes grace for attendance taking. Please remember that we cannot wait because this would be unfair to those already present. Please keep in mind that I may not respond to messages sent after the walk starts because I will be busy helping the attendees and leading the walk. Please be sure to RSVP responsibly to help those who are on the waitlist get the chance to come for the walks. ***As a consideration to others, you should change your RSVP status the day before the event to allow those on the waitlist time to schedule for the event if you can't attend.*** If I notice many no-shows despite the RSVPs, I may remove you from the RSVP list so that others can join my walks. Thank you for your kind understanding. Disclaimer: Your physical well-being is your responsibility. Exercise care while you walk. Please let me know when you feel unwell and need to drop out. Celebrate National Chip and Dip Day!
Celebrate National Chip and Dip Day!
***Okay, call me crazy but you have got to try their chip n dip!*** Club 85 is a true hidden gem in German Village! Seriously, old school, good comfort food and drink. We will try to gather in spaces near the windows. While we'll share Chip n Dip, you'll want to order a sandwich, too. **Where the Chip Began (1817)** Potato chips can be traced back to an English chef, William Kitchiner, who includes ‘crisps’ in his bestselling cookbook, “The Cook’s Oracle.” **Chip and Dip Popularity** The popularity of chip and dip skyrockets at the end of World War II with new entertainment fads and the introduction of Lipton’s new advertising campaign for their famous French Onion Dip. (Club 185 doesn't openly admit it, but I'm pretty sure that's their dip recipe!) **[Club 185](http://club185.com/)**—a true neighborhood bar serving since 1954, when it was known as a local 'speak-easy'. Located in German Village, Club 185 features a menu of quality casual comfort food and full bar. From politicians to lawyers, hardhats to hipsters—all find Club 185 the perfect place to tame their hunger and quench their thirst! **PARKING**: I know, brick street parallel parking can be a pain. Two other choices, metered parking along Livingston heading towards Children's Hospital or across the street in the large church lot (park in spaces farthest away from the church entrance doors, closer to the street). **PRE-EVENT**: **HAPPY HOUR (3-5pm)**: Italian drinks and bites at [Cento's happy hour](https://centogermanvillage.com/menus/), nearby.

Contra dance with Big Scioty on March 7 - First Congregational Church
Contra dance with Big Scioty on March 7 - First Congregational Church
**Caller: Frank Buschelmann** **Band: The Rosenthorns** **Big Scioty Contra Dance** **temporarily returning to our long ago location for Jan-March - First Congregational Church, 444 E. Broad St., Columbus 43215** WHAT IS CONTRA DANCING? Picture the Grand Ball scenes like you’ve seen in period films such as “Pride and Prejudice”, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. That’s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like “swing your partner” and “do-si-do,” like you’ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alá “Riverdance.” Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THAT’s Contra Dancing! Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor. Be sure to come for the beginner's lesson from 7:30 - 8:00, followed by dancing 8:00 - 10:30. All dances are taught; we will help you learn! Beginners always welcome, no need to bring a partner. Cost is $10.00 adults, $5.00 ages 12-26. Under 12 free. Free parking in church lot. For more information contact me or check out our website: [www.bigscioty.com](http://www.bigscioty.com/) Please bring your own refillable water bottle. Snacks to share are always welcome!
