***FAQ: Why does it cost money if I bring my own project?***
Because we rent a beautiful, central space for every event. Ever thought your monthly apartment rent was too high? Well, multiply that â thatâs what commercial spaces in big cities like Berlin cost *per hour*.
Of course, if all you want is just some quiet time, your home or a library is perfect. But if youâd like to focus & connect with others in an inspiring space â with drinks, snacks included â thatâs what your ticket helps to cover.

Silent Reading Club
Ditch the old book club, where everyone has to read the same book...this is better!
It works like this: Bring your own book. Come chat, have some tea or coffee, get to know your neighbors. Then we quietly read together, side by side, for about one hour, each one reading their own book, and afterwards we talk with each other about what we are reading.
The usual agenda:
- Arrival and introduction (~20 minutes)
- â Silent reading (~1 hour)
- â Discussion (~30-40 minutes)
- â Join us for a bite at a local restaurant afterwards, if you like!
You may read in any language, you may read any book. We are a group of international residents of Berlin from many different countries, of all ages, and we converse in English. We welcome you!
No registration needed â the event is donation based. All funds support the Offenes Wohnzimmer.
The Mindful Artist's Way: Writing From Within
The Mindful Artist's Way is suitable for anyone who wants to write â without pressure, comparison, or the need for perfection. For anyone who wants to discover their own voice or reconnect with it.
This workshop series treats your writing as a mindful and relationship-oriented process. Each session is an invitation to dive deeper into your own perception, voice, and creativity â without pressure to perform, without comparison, without right or wrong.
The focus is on writing as a mindful practice: slow, embodied, and connected. Instead of technique, performance, or optimization, itâs about perception, inner security, and the relationship to your own voice.
Each workshop is self-contained and at the same time part of a larger journey. Step by step, you are invited to build trust: in yourself, in your writing, and in the creative process.
The series is inspired by the mindful and artistic approaches of Julia Cameronâs The Artistâs Way, but follows its own path: gentle, individual, and realistic. Get to know your writing as a partner rather than just a product.
What to bring: All you need is your laptop or whatever else you want to write on. I have pens, paper, tea, and vegan cake for you. If you like, bring your headphones, because Iâve created an exclusive writing playlist for you.
You can also book the **sessions individually (âŹ15)**

**Berlin Wall Trail Section 13**
**â From Lichtenrade S-Bahn Station to Gropiusstadt â**
with ***Harms*** and ***Thomas***
**[Free event with registration](https://wearevillage.org/en/shop/village-outdoor/w08-2026/)**
On our first hike of 2026, we continue along the Berlin Wall Trail on the southern city limits â this time from Lichtenrade to Gropiusstadt. Even at the S-Bahn station, the eye is drawn to the historic industrial building of the Alte MĂ€lzerei , a former malt factory that was recently transformed into an inclusive urban quarter.
From the station, we walk through a residential area to the southern section of the Wall Trail. As in the previous section, the path leads us along the cityâs edge for long stretches through the open countryside in southern Berlin. The former patrol road of the GDR border troops is still partially preserved here; some of the lampposts that once illuminated the border strip are also still standing. Even from a distance, the distinctive silhouette of Gropiusstadt announces the end point of our hike.
**Whatâs Village Outdoor?**

ARRIVAL: Doors open for CMG at 5:30pm so thatâs when weâll plan to meet! Thatâll give us plenty of time to fill out our Oscar Ballots, pick up some free popcorn, candy, and something to drink, mix, mingle, take some photos, pick up your Newfangled Kitchen Meal Deal, grab a seat in our CMG Reserved Section, then settle in to enjoy the Academy Awards on the Big Screen!
PICTURES: Weâll take pics throughout the evening and the Drexel Paparazzi will be on hand as well. Weâll also take a big group photo around 6:40 near the entrance before the show begins. If you happen to take some good shots yourself, be sure to upload them on the Oscar Party Meetup event!
RESERVED SEATING: As you enter the theater, the roped off section to the right marked âReservedâ is reserved for you, your guest(s) and the Columbus Movie Group!
VEGAN MEALS: As previously mentioned, the food vendor does NOT have a vegan option at this yearâs Oscar Party. However, we DO have a solution! I have reached out to several individuals who are affected. If you are a vegan, plan to attend the Oscar Party and did not receive an e-mail from me, please reach out via private message post a note below. Iâll provide details off-line.
And while there wonât be a vegan meal option this year, I think we do have a workable solution. And, all other plans are usiness-as-usual: popcorn, sodas, candy, on-site paparazzi, decorations, bar drinks (including your first drink on the house), the Drexelâs Annual Oscar ballot contest, along with the Big Show on the Big Screen and a fun group of Movie Group friends to watch âem with!

The Ronald McDonald House (RMH) provides housing and meals for families with sick children. The Columbus RMH is the largest in the world with 137 rooms. COUNT has been volunteering there since May 2014.
Housewarmers work with RMH guests to provide a home-like environment - greet, assist with family needs, answer phones, give tours, assist with checkin/checkout, prepare guest rooms after checkout, clean facility, laundry, restock supplies and staff the front desk. RMH Housewarmers volunteer at least one four-hour shift a month. All Housewarmers must complete an application and agree to a background check before they can be full fledged volunteers.
