Modern Data Modelling in Power BI (free full day in-person course)

This is a full day free training on data modelling in Power BI. Data Modelling is the core skill needed to build good, correct Power BI reports. We will firstly build a basic semantic model (fact, dimension, and dates tables, based on the star schema pattern). We will then use AI agents via the Power BI Model Context Protocol (MCP) server to directly improve and document our model.
Please bring a full charged laptop with Power BI Desktop installed.
**Agenda**
*10am - Welcome and introduction*
*10:15am - Set up Power BI and AI tools*
We set up and configure the software and environment that we need to firstly build a semantic model in Power BI, then the extra steps if we want an AI to directly improve it.
* Install Power BI Desktop (preferred) *or* sign into Power BI online
* Install VSCode and the Power BI MCP server (so we can use agentic AI to improve a model)
* Install Claude Desktop and configure it to control the MCP server
*11:30am - Build a basic model*
We build a star schema data model (dimension, fact, date tables) from scratch either in Power BI Desktop or Power BI online. We will use sample data with almost perfect data quality so we can focus on modelling and not data cleaning.
*1pm - Lunch*
*1:30pm Discussion: Review our model. How can we improve it?*
*2pm - Use an Agentic AI and the Power BI MCP to directly* improve our model
We use an AI (either Claude or GitHub Copilot) and the Power BI Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server to directly improve a Power BI semantic model (tables, columns, measures, formats, relationships, hierarchies) with natural language instructions.

This session was previously for all levels however we have now changed this to a non beginner session.
We pride our sessions that everyone plays with everyone to keep it a friendly and fun session. We also understand that there is a need for being competitive and we welcome that also.

We shall be adhering to the 2 day rule which consists of confirming your spot by paying for the session 2 days in advance.

Cancellation
If you have to cancel on the day please note there won’t be a refund for the session so try and get someone to cover your RSVP and please message to inform us so we are aware.

Notes to be aware of that when warming up please don't use the game shuttle and please return the old shuttle for the new shuttle.

Join us for some fun, competitive, but friendly games at our 4-court sports hall. We use Yonex Mavis 600 Nylon shuttles during the 2-hour session.

Circling Closed Group
When we slow down and bring our attention to the present moment and try to stay curious about what’s actually happening, so much begins to reveal itself. Things that usually go unnoticed come into awareness - whether that’s sensation, impulse, feeling, thought, image, or desire.
In a recent circle, a participant described the practice as “intimate”, and that feels true for me also. It invites moving closer to and revealing one’s inner world - first to ourselves and then to others if we choose to. Circling is a practice I know well, through many years of practising and leading groups, as well as through my one-to-one work with clients which underpins my practice. I want to support people coming together to practice Circling, being with ourselves and others in what’s actually happening, meeting ourselves and each other where we already are and building capacity to be with and respond to whatever happens next, the unknown…
Inspired by being in intimacy and the unknown I'm offering another closed group and I’d love for you to join. A closed container where we journey together over 6 weeks, allowing for more trust and depth to unfold between us.
Monday evening for 6 weeks starting 27th April to 8th June, £195. We won't meet on 4th May.

**Facilitation and Terms of Service**
This is a group practice but not group therapy and not psychotherapy. Because of my NARM background and own personal journey, I value personal choice, agency and emergent self-awareness. Participants are encouraged to stay connected to their own pace and to keep checking in with themselves throughout the practice – noticing what feels supportive, what feels like too much, and what they may need in any moment.
There’s no expectation to be vulnerable or to share anything that feels too personal or emotional and you are always welcome to speak, remain silent, pause, step back and take a break, leave or ask for what you want, including asking for support. Participants are also invited to respect one another’s pace and boundaries.
The intention of my Circling leadership is to support myself and people in staying present with their experience while in relationship with others, and to develop greater awareness of how they are meeting that experience. Having said that, like solo meditation, it’s normal that we will all repeatedly lose presence and Circling can sometimes evoke strong emotions or reactions in people which can be difficult for them and challenging for others in the space to navigate. If you find the prospect of this potentially destabilising or overwhelming, or if you are currently experiencing significant emotional distress or instability in your life that might be exacerbated by this type of group environment, or if you are unsure you’ll be able to take care of yourself and ensure the practice works for you, then please contact me before registering so we can discuss further.

He will explore some of the differences between healthy adaptable personality and the more extreme and rigid presentations that might arise in a clinical setting.
