The plan is to canoe some 12km/8 miles from the small town of Zbečno in the protected landscape area **Křivoklátsko**. The route is suitable for beginners. *You can join even if you haven’t canoed before as long as you can swim. You should also be somewhat physically coordinated and have patience to learn a new motor skill!* I’m **not** a certified instructor however, I have taught countless people the basics of canoeing. LOGISTICS We will meet on Saturday 20th of June at **8:30** in front of the main ticket office at the Prague Main Railway Station. We’ll be aiming to be back in Prague by **19:00**. However, we will be as fast as the slowest members of our group and an unexpected delay is possible. This is a **full-day event.** WHAT TO TAKE WITH YOU • Shoes to wear in water (sandals, or you can buy special shoes for walking in water) • Wear clothes which dry fast (NOT jeans) • Sunscreen • Towel and maybe some spare clothes (in case your canoe capsizes) • Swimwear • Bottle of water and a small snack. • Put all your staff to a small compact bag – we will put all our belongings into water-proof barrels and they are not very large. You need to be prepared for a possibility of the boat flipping (capsizing). **Forget the tourist trail. We're going deep into Bohemian Switzerland — one of the most surreal landscapes in Central Europe, and it's right on our doorstep.** Towering sandstone pillars. A river gorge where the light barely reaches the ground. A boat ride through a narrow canyon carved into solid rock. And at the end of it all: Pravčická brána — the largest natural rock arch in Europe, perched above the treeline with views that make the climb absolutely worth it. This is the kind of day where you stop every ten minutes because something looks unreal. Forest trails that open suddenly into panoramic views. A medieval-looking chateau bolted onto a cliff face. A flat-bottomed boat floating you through a gorge so narrow you can touch both walls. And you're back in Prague by 19:00. **Who's this for?** Anyone who wants a proper day out in nature. Solid shoes, reasonable fitness, willingness to be away from your phone for a few hours. First time in Czech nature? Perfect introduction. Been here before? You'll love having company. *** **🗓️ The Day** 🥾 **~09:30 — Trail start in Hřensko** We set off on the **Mlýnská cesta** (yellow trail) — the official open route from Hřensko to Pravčická brána. Note: the classic Gabrielina stezka is currently closed due to the 2022 wildfire recovery. The Mlýnská cesta is the designated alternative — well-marked, scenic, and takes you straight to the arch. 🏔️ **~11:30 — Pravčická brána + Sokolí hnízdo** The highlight of the day. Europe's largest natural sandstone arch, 26.5 metres wide, with a 19th-century chateau literally built into the cliff beside it. Entrance fee applies (~150–200 CZK, card accepted). Take your time — this is the view you came for. 🍽️ **~12:30 — Lunch at Mezní Louka** Short walk down to Hotel Mezní Louka — traditional Czech cuisine, and **the biggest beer garden in the region**. They offer group menus at special rates. ⛵ **~14:00 — Divoká soutěska (Wild Gorge) boat ride** The finale. A flat-bottomed boat takes you through the Kamenice river gorge — narrow sandstone walls, hanging ferns, near-total silence except for the water. Open daily 09:00–17:30, last boat at 17:30. Entry: **200 CZK / person** (cash or card). Hands down one of the best 30 minutes in Bohemia. 🔄 **~15:30 — Walk back to Hřensko** Short walk back along the river to the village. 🚌 **~16:00 — Firm meeting point at Hřensko bus stop** Whether you went fast or slow, we all leave together from here. *** **🚌 Option A — Train + Bus (recommended)** No car needed, no parking stress. 🚉 **07:15 — Meet at Praha hl.n. (Wilsonova entrance)** Train to Děčín together, then **Bus 434** direction Hřensko (~30 min, cash only from driver). We share the exact connection in the WhatsApp group. Hop on at any Praha–Děčín station. 🚉 **~17:00 — Train from Děčín back to Prague** Back in Prague around **18:30–19:00** — just in time for a post-hike beer. 🍺 **🚗 Option B — Carpool** Prefer to drive? The weekend is supposed to be pretty...warm, so there is no better way to spend the time than in a cooler place - in the mountains where we can expect around 25°C, and finish a relaxed pace hike with cooling down - in the beautiful, clean, natural peaty water. But indeed there is an ascending part so a decent condition is surely required. You can check the elevation profile when you click on the map. I've made the trail 14 km long so it's not too tough, we don't have to rush, and have more time to enjoy the lake. We will have to walk a few more km for the bus, but only after we have taken a dip and refreshed! This event is free of charge (you just need money for bus tickets and train (around 300-350 CZK), but any **contribution for organizing and to cover the subscription fees is more than welcome** (100+ CZK is recommended, but it's totally up to you how much you think the trip was worth, your financial possibilities etc.).
