Join & Play! December 18
Our traditional "Join & Play" event is on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Thursdays of each month. As always, it's free to come & play with us.
How does it work ?
• The events are open for beginner to advanced gamers. If you're new here they're the perfect gateway to discover what we do!
• Those who want to host a game are asked to share in the comments below which game, & for how many players you can run your table.
• For others, if you see a game you'd like to join just respond to the host in the comments below and we'll reserve a spot for that game for you.
• Don't worry if you're new to boardgames or simply don't know the games being hosted this time around; you can simply show up and the event host will sort out a spot at a table for you! **But please make sure to arrive by 19h30 *at the latest* so we can take the time to find you a suitable spot.**
• The rules for the games will be explained by the table host before the game starts. No need to study them upfront, although several hosts post a video link to rules or background which can enhance your enjoyment of the game if you have the time to watch beforehand. This is never mandatory, however.

Before J&P: Terraforming Mars: Ares Expedition
***Terraforming Mars: Ares Expedition*** is an engine-building game in which players control interplanetary corporations with the goal of making Mars habitable (and profitable). You will do this by investing **mega credits (MC)** into project cards that will directly or indirectly contribute to the terraforming process. In order to win, you will want to accumulate a high **terraform rating (TR)** and as many **victory points (VP)** as you can. Players raise their TR by increasing global parameters: **oceans, oxygen, and temperature.** TR also determines each corporation's basic income, and, at the end of the game TR counts as VP. Additional VP and production capabilities are awarded for building project cards and other actions taken during the game.
The game is played in rounds, and each round the players will choose one of five phases, which determines which activities will take place during that round. This means every round is different, but can consist of building new project cards, taking general and project-specific actions, producing income and resources **(plants and heat)**, or researching to draw more project cards. Every player will take all the phases selected for the round, and will receive a special bonus during the phase that they selected. **To speed up the game, within each phase, players can act simultaneously without waiting for each other!**
The game board has tracks for oxygen, temperature, and terraform rating, as well as a place for all of the ocean tiles that will be flipped over the course of the game. The game ends when there is enough oxygen to breath (14%), oceans enough to allow Earth-like weather (9), and the temperature is well above freezing (+8°C). It will then be possible, if not comfortable, to live on the surface of Mars!
The winner is the player with the most VP at the end of the game.
Startup Marketing Clinic - Decemer Edition
**Join us for an evening that brings together founders, experts, accelerators, and investors to celebrate what’s been achieved this year, and to share what’s coming next.**
**The Startup Marketing Clinic (SMC+) launched in July to give early-stage founders access to free, expert support on their marketing challenges. Since then, we’ve helped over 70 startups clarify key questions and gain confidence in their marketing.**
## **What will the evening offer ?**
**For Startups...**
Meet the experts behind the Clinic, hear from founders who have already benefited, and see how the SMC+ can help you sharpen your marketing and grow with more confidence.
**For Accelerators and Incubators...**
Discover how the SMC+ strengthens cohort performance by filling a critical skill gap: practical, senior-level marketing support that programmes rarely have capacity to provide in-house.
**For VCs and Investors...**
See how the Clinic prepares founders with clearer messaging, stronger positioning, and a more compelling commercial story, the foundations that make early-stage companies more investable.
## **What to expect ?**
* A short overview of the SMC+ and its impact from July to December
* Early success stories from participating founders
* Introduction to the SMC+ expert network
* An outline of how the Clinic will expand in 2025–2026
* Informal networking with founders, experts, and ecosystem partners
* Light refreshments to mark the end of the year
Brussels’ startups often struggle not because of their product or service, but because they lack access to the right marketing guidance early on. The SMC+ was created to change that, and to support the wider ecosystem by preparing founders for stronger commercial, partnership, and investment outcomes.
**Join this clinic to celebrate the progress so far and help shape what Brussels’ founders need next.**
**Registration is mandatory**
* **Free for Beci members**
* **€ 85 excluding VAT for the non-Beci members (promo code "BeciStartupCelebration2025" for the 5 first registrants)**

Communicate & Lead with Confidence!
Are you scared of speaking in public? Nervous about that Best Man speech? Worried about making presentations at work? Or just wanting to gain self-confidence? Then you've come to the right place!
Since 2005, Claddagh Toastmasters of Brussels has been helping people of all nationalities in Brussels to improve their communication and leadership skills. We aim to provide a mutually supportive and positive learning environment in which every member has the opportunity to develop at their own pace, which in turn fosters self-confidence and personal growth.
How does it work?
We have a ‘learn by doing’ approach. Our members present speeches to develop a variety of public speaking skills, and also carry out a variety of other meeting roles to practice skills such as listening and giving feedback. Each member works at their own pace – some people like to throw themselves into giving speeches straight away, while others prefer to spend some time attending meetings and carrying out smaller roles to build up their confidence.
Claddagh Toastmaster Members are now able to participate in the international educational programme called Pathways tailor made to meet the needs of the member.

(IN-PERSON) Fabric CI/CD & Intro to Fabric Data Pipelines
**This is an In-Person Evening Session**
Detailed information and registration can be found here :
https://dataminds.be/fabric-cicd-intro-to-fabric-data-pipelines-in-person-ae/
### Fabric CI/CD
**Speaker**: Oliver De Vijt
In Microsoft Fabric, deploying all items efficiently across environments requires a robust CI/CD strategy. While Fabric’s built-in deployment pipelines offer a no-code approach for basic promotion between workspaces, they lack flexibility, automation capabilities, and testing.
In this session, we’ll dive deep into Fabric CI/CD practices, leveraging Git integration, the Fabric REST APIs, and the fabric-cicd Python library to automate the deployment of Fabric items such as semantic models, notebooks, dataflows, and reports. You’ll see how to design YAML-based Azure DevOps pipelines that deploy from source control into your Fabric development, test, and production workspaces, and even include steps to run and validate your models using Tabular Editor.
By the end of this session, you’ll understand how to implement your own end-to-end CI/CD framework for Microsoft Fabric, even in Power BI Pro environments, using entirely free and open-source tools.
### Intro to Fabric (Data) Pipelines
**Speakers**: Koen Verbeeck
Fabric Pipelines, formerly known as Fabric Data Pipelines, is the low-code ELT (extract-load-transform) solution in Microsoft Fabric.
With this tool, you can orchestrate various activities, such as reading data from various data sources, executing Spark notebooks, running SQL statements on your warehouse and so on.
In the wider Azure Data Platform, Fabric Pipelines are a close sibling of Azure Data Factory and Synapse Pipelines.
In this session, we’ll cover the following topics:
* Intro to the various concepts of Fabric Pipelines (activities, connections, parameters, variables etc)
* What are the differences with ADF and Synapse Pipelines?
* Tips & tricks
After the session, you’ll be able to start your own data engineering journey with Fabric Pipelines in Microsoft Fabric.
Knowledge of general ETL concepts are a plus when attending this presentation.

[LOCATION: THE SISTER CAFE] Philosophy Meetup: 17:00-18:30
Welcome to our weekly event in the upstairs room of The Sister Café, rue Chair et Pain 3, one block from the Grand Place. Please get there early enough to order your drink at the bar first. Thank you!
After introductions we will collect questions from the group participants, choose one by voting then discuss it for an hour. Then most of us stay for drinks and bizarre conversations.
Past questions have been wide and not confined to academic philosophy:
What is a genuine friend?
Is social media turning us into emotional zombies?
Do we lose some of the experience of things by defining them?
Are we driven by sex?
Is loneliness a personal failure?
Is morality relative?
**Crucially, be kind and respectful and generous** in your disagreements; remember how much you personally enjoy someone else proving you wrong before celebrating your cutting counterexamples.
Christmas Hangouts: Festive Friends Meetup
**Alone for the holidays? We've got you!**
Whether you're new to the city or simply have no one to spend the holiday season with, you probably don’t want to spend it alone.
At this event, we’ll help you meet new people, with the hope that you’ll find a small group you feel comfortable with—maybe even to spend the holidays together.
**You’ll:**
* Meet new people in small groups (max 8 per group)
* Be matched based on the answers you provided when signing up
* Enjoy a completely offline, screen-free experience
* Receive a little Christmas gift envelope from us
This event is a **concept test of a revolutionary friendship app.**
Always find your friends busy, or don’t know anyone in the city? Through the app, you’ll choose the date, time, and venue, and we take care of the rest. We match you with a group and send invites to people who fit your vibe. Just show up and enjoy.
For this particular event, you won’t be using the app yet. However, **downloading the app is required to attend**, so if you like the concept, you can start using it immediately.
And the best part? **It’s completely free.**
6° of Stranger
What does it mean for something - or someone - to be "strange"? What does it in fact mean for someone to be "a stranger"?
Nowadays, can we truly ever experience any thing or person as _"strange"_ as our ancestors presumably did?
What impact might our replacing the adjective "strange" and the noun "stranger" with new terms have on our collective social and political cultures? How would our attitudes towards other individuals or groups of people be if we removed all notions of "strangeness" from our assessments of them?
Should the fact that we no longer truly experience strangeness be a sufficient reason for us to behave _very differently_ from how our ancestors did?
Alien, foreign, unfamiliar, unknown, weird, bizarre, eccentric, inappropriate - or merely different - how are all these common perceptions and judgments interrelated?
We can, and do, of course often find ourselves applying the description "strange" not only to people, but to things, ideas, experiences, phenomena... in fact potentially to anything and everything.
If, however, nothing in our world and in our individual or collective life-experiences is any longer experienced _truly_ as strange, how is this impacting our relationships to the world, to others, to life, to knowledge, and to the unknown in general?
How _big_ is our world actually? Even if we choose to systematically replace the word "strange" with "foreign", how foreign is anywhere or anyone in our world these days?
"6° of separation" can also be framed as "6° of proximity"...
The 6° phenomenon, moreover, observably applies not only to distances among people, but also to distances among _everything,_ including all our ideas, actions, languages, customs, beliefs, knowledge, etc. not to mention the propagation of toxicity and malevolence...
The question then becomes no longer if, but _how_ are we each connected and related to any (and every) other particular person, thing and idea in the world?
It can be mind-boggling just how much we do _not_ know (>99%?) about which shared people, places and experiences we in fact have in common with any one of the vast majority (<99%?) of the people we encounter in our daily lives...
Just as in our collective culture we are becoming increasingly more demanding when it comes to being informed about what ingredients are in the foods we buy and what the supply chain has been of items we purchase, so too might we want to know more truly and clearly how any given person has ended up in our lives - and all of the hundreds, even thousands, of ways they are in fact connected to us without our realizing?
This session will be a celebration of the phenomena of connections, friendships, threats, and, ultimately, of "strangeness".

Casual Boardgames - make friends, then beat them in games
Welcome to Casual Boardgames, where we enjoy classic tabletop games and social deduction games while bonding over good food, drinks, and great conversations.
We started this group to meet new people and make new friends, and bonding over games in a relaxed atmosphere is a great way to do that.
We currently meet near route 23 and Polaris Parkway, and this is close to areas like Powell, Lewis Center, Worthington, and parts of Westerville and Columbus.
Feel free to bring your own games or play one of the many games our members bring. If you are inexperienced, we will help you learn.
Here are just a few examples of the kind of games we play.
Tabletop/board games: Splendor, Catan, Azul, Dominion, 7 Wonders…
Social deduction games: Code Names, Chameleon, Werewords…
IMPORTANT:
1. While we love playing a variety of games and competing, we are not just about the games. We interact and talk while playing, and this leads to a lot of laughter and fun. If you just want to compete and focus solely on the game, then this is probably not the group you are looking for.
2. Many people join groups like this and never (or rarely) show up after weeks or months. If you join and never really come, we will eventually remove you from the group as a courtesy to our members. Why? Because limiting group conversations (on the app) to regular members makes communication and planning much easier. Also, while it may be rare, it protects members from people who join because they are interested in following a person instead of having a real interest in our group. If you get removed, it is just because you haven’t come, and we follow this protocol as a courtesy to our regular game players.
Walk & Talk About Life's Big Questions
[The Board Walks](www.theboardwalks.com) are for curious people who love deep conversations.
If that sounds like you, **bring a thoughtful topic** **and join us for a 5-mile walk** (10,000+ steps!).
**What to expect:**
We walk as a group and dive into topics that go beyond small talk.
Recent topics include:
* "What are you passionate about right now?"
* "What makes a good friend?"
* "What's a belief you used to hold that you've completely changed?"
* "How do you want to be remembered?"
* "What would you do if money wasn't a factor?"
This isn't a fitness event with casual chitchat. It's a walking think tank where we explore life's big questions together. *If you're looking for light banter or a standard networking event, this probably isn't the right fit.*
But if you crave depth, genuine connection, and conversations that make you feel alive? You'll love it here.
**Come prepared:**
We ask that you bring a thoughtful topic with you.
At the start of the walk, everyone shares their topic with the group, and these become the launching points for conversations throughout our 5 miles together.
Think of your topic like the dish you're bringing to our conversational potluck. If everyone brings an A+ dish (i.e. energizing, uplifting, expansive), we'll all walk away feeling lighter and brighter. Be a good egg and bring a topic that'd make people go "Oooh, interesting."
**Important notes:**
* Wear casual athletic attire and sneakers. It's a long walk!
* We welcome people of all ages, backgrounds, and industries who align with the [intention](https://www.theboardwalks.com/ground-rules) of this space.
* This walk is designed for everyone to *move together at the same steady pace* (about 20 min/mile). We want everyone to have a great experience, and this format works best when the whole group moves in unison. If you have mobility limitations, we kindly encourage you to find an event better suited to your needs.
**FAQs:**
* We have multiple first-timers on each walk! We work hard to create a welcoming, inclusive, clique-free space.
* Rain or shine, we've been out here nearly every week since July 2022. If the event is cancelled, we'll let you know.
* Dogs, babies in strollers, parents, and friends are very welcome — please text/email them the event link so they can RSVP and prepare a topic!
**Logistics:**
* **Arrive on time.** If you'll arrive over 10 minutes late, we kindly suggest that you skip the event. It's hard to find us once we start walking, and one of our goals is to create a "phone-free" space — which means everyone (including the host!) will be fully present. We can't answer messages during the event.
* **Read our [Ground Rules](https://www.theboardwalks.com/ground-rules)**. Our host gives an overview of what to expect at the beginning of the walk.
* **Share the magic**. If you enjoy the event, send **[this](www.theboardwalks.com)** to a friend. We're currently in 7 cities with more on the way (Austin, SF, NYC, Denver, Columbus, Boone, London). 🤠👋
**If you want to go deeper...**
[The Board](https://stan.store/ellebeecher/p/the-board) is the next step: a high-trust collective for renaissance people devoted to creating, connecting, and building lives that light us up.
* This is a global HQ for people who crave big talk, deep connection, and dream collaborations with people across industries. If the walks feel like a spark... The Board is the fire.
* We're currently building our waitlist. Apply [here.](https://stan.store/ellebeecher/p/the-board)
Speak Easy (Storytelling)
The topic for December is "Reunion"
Speak Easy: true stories, told live.
The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 7:00 pm, show starts at 7:30 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast.
Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect.
The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome. Hang around after the show for a drink and build community!
Board games at The Forge
######## NEW LOCATION #######
We are going to be at The Forge on Bethel Rd this week and until further notice!
The Forge does have a full bar and kitchen. There is no cover charge but they do request all attendees to purchase a minimum of ~$20 per person. Soft drink refills are $1 each. Please support our hosts so we can continue to provide great events for the group!
The Forge has a large library of games available for us to enjoy. Hosts and regulars will also provide numerous popular games but please bring any games you would like to teach and/or play.
Doors open at 6, and we expect gaming to be rolling by around 630. Please promptly end your games and clear out the space at 10pm when the bar closes.
We encourage socializing but do not permit disruptive behavior of any kind. Thank you for your continued commitment to providing a fun and welcoming space to veteran, newbie, and rookie gamers in the Columbus area!
Parking can be challenging. There is a parking lot behind the building that is free and easy to walk from but it's a bit hidden.
Lewis Center Networking Lunch
Join us for lunch and meet our very successful group. We are each others sales team...always looking for referrals for our members. If you are looking for new clients, let us help you out! Bring your business cards and brochures to share with us.
We have a speaker each week so that we can learn about their business.
Because we have only one member per business, we have many of the spots filled. However, we are specifically looking for an estate attorney, a handyman/electrician, and an event planner. We have referrals for you!
All visitors are welcome. Any questions contact [pmarchio@farmersagent.com](mailto:pmarchio@farmersagent.com)
