Drumming Circle & Uplifting Discussion ๐ชโจ๐
**NO MUSICAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED**
**About Drum & Soul**
Drum & Soul is a participatory community space that combines drumming, singing, reflection and conversation in one shared experience. Through rhythms from different cultures, collective music making and meaningful discussion around a focused theme, we practise qualities that strengthen both the individual and the community.
This is more than a drumming circle. It is a space where people can grow in expression, presence, listening, and contribution, while learning how these same qualities can be carried into everyday life and relationships.
---
...
**Why come**
Come if you want to grow your expressive capacity, feel more at ease participating with others, and be part of a growing space that celebrates the human in us. Everyone is welcome, regardless of age, background or musical experience.
If you feel shy in groups, that is completely natural. Many people arrive unsure and leave feeling surprisingly at home.
---
...
**How it works**
---
We begin with a short breathing and centring exercise, followed by simple rhythm demonstration and call and response drumming. We then move into smaller group discussion around a shared theme. From there we shift into collective jamming and improvisation, and end with a potluck meal and informal connection.
---
...
**Typical meeting flow**
1. ๐ซฑ๐ฝโ๐ซฒ๐ป Arrival & social time โ 15 min
2. ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ Welcome, check in and centring โ 15 min
3. ๐ช Call & Respond **Drumming & demo** โ 20 min
4. ๐ฌ Facilitated **Discussion** on the Theme (groups of five-or so) โ 20 min
5. ๐บ๐ฝ Open **Jamming** with multiple instruments โ 30 min
6. ๐ฆ Potluck **dinner** & social time afterwards โ 60 min
*This outline is flexible and may shift to suit the group and the space.*
---
...
**Logistics & what to bring**
Our next Drum & Soul gathering will be held outdoors in the park. If the weather turns rainy, we will move the gathering to our usual indoor location (you'll be notified in the comment section of any changes).
Since outdoor seating is limited, please bring a lawn chair or picnic blanket if you can.
Drums are available on a first come, first served basis, and we will also provide plenty of small percussion instruments so every hand can play. You are welcome to bring your own drum or instrument.
We end the evening with a shared **potluck meal**, an extension of the circle where conversation and connection continue. Since the event is free, we warmly ask everyone to bring a small item to share if they are able. Simple finger foods and easy to serve savoury items are especially helpful, such as fruit, veggies and dip, wraps, sandwiches, hummus and pita, samosas, spring rolls, crackers and cheese, or other meal friendly bites. Sweet items are welcome too, but meal friendly contributions are especially appreciated.
---
...
**Cost & contributions**
---
This is a free event. If you are unable to bring food, you are welcome to make an optional contribution toward refreshments and materials by e-transfer to **hooshmandnyc@gmail.com**
---
...
**Helpful notes**
---
No prep needed. Doors open at 3:45 p.m. Please arrive by then so we can start at 4:00 p.m. sharp and keep the flow. Location and any last minute updates are posted on Meetup and in our WhatsApp group. We recommend joining the WhatsApp group (ask us for the link at the venue) for quick notices.
---
...
**Life Between Gatherings**
Drum & Soul does not begin and end with the monthly session. For those who want to continue beyond the gatherings and go deeper, we also have:
โข **Advanced sessions** for those who want to go further in drumming technique and explore the discussion themes more deeply in a smaller group
โข **Home or cafรฉ meetups** for simple in-person connection, where a few participants can continue the conversation more personally and naturally
โข **Ongoing contact** so the spirit of the gathering can carry into everyday life through our own reflection, friendship and mutual encouragement
Over time, these smaller spaces help strengthen connection, shared learning, and community life between sessions. Ask us about these features for more detail.
---
...
**Why this matters**
Our world is like a sick body, and is aching for a lasting remedy. We believe our special mission here is to nurture one another, define our roles in service to our fellow humans, and become living temples of unity. A meaningful growth unfolds through both selfโdiscovery and collective effort, and one cannot truly flourish without the other. Come open and prepared to learn, to offer your gifts, and to be strengthened by the power of community.

Life Force & Light Language with Blue Lotus Tea Ceremony
This class is a guided life force energy transmission designed to help you deepen awareness, regulate the nervous system, release stored emotions, and connect more deeply with themselves. The practice combines life force activation, light language, somatic release, music therapy, and meditation in a safe, supportive environment.
Blue Lotus Tea
Blue Lotus tea will be served as an optional ritual element. It is non-psychedelic and only mildly psychoactive, helping participants relax the body, quiet the mind, and become more receptive to the experience. It supports the practice but does not create the activation itself.
During the Session
Participants lie down while receiving a guided energy transmission. Experiences vary and may include:
* Gentle spontaneous body movement
* Emotional release (laughing, crying, etc.)
* Feelings of warmth, tingling, or energy movement
* Deep relaxation or bliss
* Visual imagery or meditative experiences
* Vocal expression such as humming, singing, or spontaneous sounds (often described as light language)
Intended Benefits
Many participants report:
* Greater emotional release and nervous system regulation
* Increased self-awareness and clarity
* Enhanced intuition and confidence
* Breaking old patterns and limiting beliefs
* Improved relationships and life direction
* Greater creativity, resilience, and sense of purpose
The emphasis is on personal growth, conscious awareness, and integration, rather than seeking dramatic experiences during the session itself.
What is Light Language?
Light language refers to spontaneous vocal, tonal, or gestural expression that some people experience during deep meditative or energetic states. It is viewed within this practice as an intuitive form of self-expression that may support healing, communication, and creativity.
Preparation
* Avoid alcohol or recreational drugs on the day of the class.
* Eat lightly (fruit or juice) 1โ2 hours beforehand.
* Stay hydrated.
* Meditation or gentle breathwork beforehand is encouraged.
* Integration guidance will be provided after the session.
Who Should Attend
The class is open to adults seeking personal growth and self-exploration. It is not suitable for individuals experiencing psychosis or mania, those under 18, or people in the third trimester of pregnancy.
About the Facilitator
Radia is the founder of Light Body Expansion (LBE) and has facilitated more than 95 classes internationally, supporting over 500+ of students through nervous system regulation, meditation, and energy-based practices.

FREE Oral Conversational Spanish, French, and English Classes 4 Adults!!
\*These classes are not a language exchange, but instead are meant to be a step in between so that students feel confident maintaining in depth and grammatically correct oral conversations outside of class\*
\***Meetup event numbers only tend to show new students registering and do not include returning students attending class.** **Per class, there is an average of students.** The first 2 classes are free and then only cost between $18 and $45 depending on which type of class you want to continue with\*\*
These Spanish, English (For Spanish and French speakers only), and French classes are primarily meant for adults who are travellers, or who are planning to live in a French, English, or Spanish-speaking country. The classes are primarily oral-based through guided conversations. They will teach you how to handle conversations in situations such as **"Going to the Convenience Store"**, **"Making Plans"**, **"Negotiating Prices"**, and **"Going out for a Drink"**. To ensure that students get used to using the language automatically, students will learn to maintain contextual conversations with timing before moving on to the next lesson. **Program is also offered in private and online classes**. Call (647)787-9953, e-mail us info@monkeylingo.ca, or visit monkeylingo.ca for more information! **Online and private classes are also available!**
No other language classes are as oral as these ones. We guarantee it! Group classes are hosted at **600 Bay Street** every Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. Call (647)904-5285 upon arrival if no one is there to let you in, and someone will come down to let you in.
Cheap parking can be found using the "Spot Hero" app.

As we learn, we hope to connect more with the Deaf community in Central Ohio. Join us as you're able!
Come regularly or just once - whatever you're looking for! Each meetup will explore different topics related to ASL/Deaf culture, and will feature time to practice conversation with one another. Just bring yourself and a willingness to learn!
