Drumming Circle & Uplifting Discussion 🪘✨🌍
**NO MUSICAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED**
**About Drum & Soul**
Drum & Soul is a participatory community space that combines drumming, singing, reflection and conversation in one shared experience. Through rhythms from different cultures, collective music making and meaningful discussion around a focused theme, we practise qualities that strengthen both the individual and the community.
This is more than a drumming circle. It is a space where people can grow in expression, presence, listening, and contribution, while learning how these same qualities can be carried into everyday life and relationships.
---
...
**Why come**
Come if you want to grow your expressive capacity, feel more at ease participating with others, and be part of a growing space that celebrates the human in us. Everyone is welcome, regardless of age, background or musical experience.
If you feel shy in groups, that is completely natural. Many people arrive unsure and leave feeling surprisingly at home.
---
...
**How it works**
---
We begin with a short breathing and centring exercise, followed by simple rhythm demonstration and call and response drumming. We then move into smaller group discussion around a shared theme. From there we shift into collective jamming and improvisation, and end with a potluck meal and informal connection.
---
...
**Typical meeting flow**
1. 🫱🏽🫲🏻 Arrival & social time – 15 min
2. 🙋🏻♀️ Welcome, check in and centring – 15 min
3. 🪘 Call & Respond **Drumming & demo** – 20 min
4. 💬 Facilitated **Discussion** on the Theme (groups of five-or so) – 20 min
5. 🕺🏽 Open **Jamming** with multiple instruments – 30 min
6. 🦋 Potluck **dinner** & social time afterwards – 60 min
*This outline is flexible and may shift to suit the group and the space.*
---
...
**Logistics & what to bring**
Our next Drum & Soul gathering will be held outdoors in the park. If the weather turns rainy, we will move the gathering to our usual indoor location (you'll be notified in the comment section of any changes).
Since outdoor seating is limited, please bring a lawn chair or picnic blanket if you can.
Drums are available on a first come, first served basis, and we will also provide plenty of small percussion instruments so every hand can play. You are welcome to bring your own drum or instrument.
We end the evening with a shared **potluck meal**, an extension of the circle where conversation and connection continue. Since the event is free, we warmly ask everyone to bring a small item to share if they are able. Simple finger foods and easy to serve savoury items are especially helpful, such as fruit, veggies and dip, wraps, sandwiches, hummus and pita, samosas, spring rolls, crackers and cheese, or other meal friendly bites. Sweet items are welcome too, but meal friendly contributions are especially appreciated.
---
...
**Cost & contributions**
---
This is a free event. If you are unable to bring food, you are welcome to make an optional contribution toward refreshments and materials by e-transfer to **hooshmandnyc@gmail.com**
---
...
**Helpful notes**
---
No prep needed. Doors open at 3:45 p.m. Please arrive by then so we can start at 4:00 p.m. sharp and keep the flow. Location and any last minute updates are posted on Meetup and in our WhatsApp group. We recommend joining the WhatsApp group (ask us for the link at the venue) for quick notices.
---
...
**Life Between Gatherings**
Drum & Soul does not begin and end with the monthly session. For those who want to continue beyond the gatherings and go deeper, we also have:
• **Advanced sessions** for those who want to go further in drumming technique and explore the discussion themes more deeply in a smaller group
• **Home or café meetups** for simple in-person connection, where a few participants can continue the conversation more personally and naturally
• **Ongoing contact** so the spirit of the gathering can carry into everyday life through our own reflection, friendship and mutual encouragement
Over time, these smaller spaces help strengthen connection, shared learning, and community life between sessions. Ask us about these features for more detail.
---
...
**Why this matters**
Our world is like a sick body, and is aching for a lasting remedy. We believe our special mission here is to nurture one another, define our roles in service to our fellow humans, and become living temples of unity. A meaningful growth unfolds through both self‑discovery and collective effort, and one cannot truly flourish without the other. Come open and prepared to learn, to offer your gifts, and to be strengthened by the power of community.

Transformational Healing Mushroom Ceremony
**\~ Transformational Healing Mushroom Medicine Ceremony \~**
**"The unconscious lovingly brought into the conscious"**
***July 4th, 2026***
*Let your past unwind in the present, releasing shame and cultivating courage as you learn to deeply love yourself for who you are & who you have become.*
*Remember the Creative Being You Are & The Power You Hold to Live Life Anew in Every Moment*
*This ceremony will be held at the beautiful 'Soul Sanctuary'*
*studio in Leslieville, Toronto*
**Hosted by Chris Dub & Marda Sperber**
\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~
**Join us, dear Soul.**
This ceremony will support you to nurture and strengthen the new pathways you are choosing to take mentally, physically and spiritually to ensure you are a living a life that feels in rhythm with your body and soul. Receive the support you need to let go of the pain, hurt, sense of unworthiness & not enoughness, as well as the struggle we can all feel victim to at times.
Immerse yourself into a space of love, forgiveness, and compassion, unlearning the ways you've been taught to judge your *very* human emotions and thoughts. ***You deserve to feel the love and support that's all around you, so you can bring forward the gifts and purpose you came here to share.***
The mind can be sticky, but when you experience genuine love it clarifies any confusion of who you truly are. ***This ceremony is an opportunity for just that: to open up to the authentic love that is innate within you, which opens up your heart, and helps you gain control of the mind.***
**Energies that could potentially arise in ceremony**
**Shamanic medicine ceremonies may open access to a wide range of emotional, somatic, energetic, and spiritual experiences. Each journey is unique, and all expressions are welcomed within a container of safety, consent, and compassionate presence.**
**\*\*Energies that may arise:\*\***
* Emotional release such as grief, joy, anger, relief, or deep peace
* Memories or imprints from early life, ancestral lineages, or collective experiences
* Somatic sensations including trembling, heat, cold, expansion, or energy moving through the body
* Kundalini life-force activation, energetic attunements, and realignmentEncounters with inner archetypes, sacred geometry, spirit guides, animal allies, or symbolic imagery
* Awareness of repetitive patterns or subconscious conditioning
* Messages from past loved ones or benevolent guiding energies
* States of expanded awareness, unity, stillness, or heightened intuition
* Heart opening, deep surrender, electromagnetic field expansion, and embodied presence
***All energies arise only as each participant is ready to meet them and are supported within a regulated, grounded, and loving field.***
**Truly forgive yourself, learning to love the darker aspects that are rising to be seen and witnessed.**
Cultivate a deeper love for the past versions of you, as well as others who have negatively impacted you. Gratitude is the open door to freedom, and ***when you recognize the gifts of the lessons life has given you - it becomes easier to let go of the anger, resentment, and regret***. As you unravel what has been tight within you, there is a natural alchemy that takes place within the body. Energy blocks and stagnation are unfurled, allowing you to open to more love, and the flow of vital life force energy. ***You will feel a loving space to heal and process through old traumas, ancestral karma, and become more astutely aware of ego identification, leading to more freedom, peace, and simplicity.***
**Release negative thought patterns, rewiring your nervous system for peace, harmony, and balance.**
Be held in safe space so you can look at the negative thoughts and limiting beliefs that hold you back from feeling your freest, clearest, most alive and fully expressed self. Regulate your system through the awareness of breath, body (all levels - mental, emotional, physical & energetic), your 5 senses, and extrasensory perceptions. ***As you re-balance and re-align your system you will be able to see your internal experience more clearly, and also recognize why other people are the way they are, allowing you to have more compassion and forgiveness both for others and yourself.*** The more ***aware*** you are, the better ***regulated*** you are, and from that space you can become the master of your domain.
You deserve the space and time to simply be, rest, rejuvenate, and feel the aliveness of living life moment by moment for YOU!
**You are fully supported throughout the entire journey.**
This ceremony includes the optional combination of pure MDMA along with the psilocybin mushrooms. We have found these medicines work very synergistically together, and offer an amplified level of heart opening. The pure MDMA is optional, and the dosing for both medicines will be based upon your intentions, disposition, prior experience, and current state at the time of the ceremony.
After this ceremony you will feel more love for yourself and others, with a heightened sense of courage, strength, and integrity. ***You will want to make better choices, and also have the self-awareness needed to stay accountable to yourself.*** This level of love and clarity will emanate out to reach and impact all those closest to you.
**This is an invitation to open up your heart, and love and forgive yourself through unconditional acceptance. To awaken to your divinity and beauty, and access your greatest gifts of self-healing and conscious creatorship.**
**\~ Ceremony Preparation & Integration \~**
Prior to the ceremony you will receive an in-depth **plant medicine workbook** to help you prepare, questions to ask yourself and a recommended diet to support your experience.
We will meet as a group before the ceremony for an **Intention Setting Call**, to connect with each other and share our intentions for the journey. You will also receive a **nervous system regulating practice** that supports in expanding internal awareness, grounding, centering and overall mindfulness.
Following the Ceremony we will have an **Integration Call** to support and hold space for continued breakthroughs, challenges and dream weaving.

**Mushroom Medicine Testimonials**
"I turned to Soul Guided after my low-simmering depression and grief became more and more acute. The two guided psilocybin ceremonies that I took part in have been transformative. I feel like I've moved forward in a huge, miraculous leap and am now able to enjoy my days with far more resilience and joy.
I now wake up without the anxiety in the pit of my stomach, without the feeling of gloom at another day. I have a deep sense that I'm ok and can face life's challenges and this toxic world with renewed strength. These ceremonies have lead to shedding of the brittle mental ruts that constrained my ability to thrive and have given me a far deeper feeling of connection to the people I love and the natural world around me.
I have used psilocybin a few times in the past — but without guides. Jen and Chris Dub quickly establish a deep foundation of trust. They are gifted, compassionate, creative healers — and consummate musicians as well, creating magical soundscapes and offering deeply informed mystical guidance that has led me to a spiritual awareness that I never had before."

In Search of the Kirtland's Warbler
# In Search of the Kirtland's Warbler
**Friday, July 3**
**Time:** 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
**Cost:** $99 per person
Join me for a special birding adventure in search of one of North America's rarest and most sought-after songbirds, the **Kirtland's Warbler**.
Once on the brink of extinction, this remarkable warbler has made an incredible comeback thanks to decades of conservation efforts. Today, a small breeding population can be found just over an hour north of the city, giving Ontario birders a unique opportunity to see this legendary species without travelling to Michigan.
Our morning will be dedicated to searching for Kirtland's Warblers, while also enjoying many of the other birds that call this unique habitat home. July is an excellent time to find singing males, and we'll take our time exploring the area while enjoying whatever nature has to offer.
Along the way we may also encounter species such as Clay-colored Sparrow, Brown Thrasher, Eastern Towhee, and several warbler species.
This outing is suitable for birders of all experience levels. Whether you're hoping to add a lifer to your list or simply enjoy a relaxing day outdoors with fellow nature enthusiasts, this promises to be a memorable adventure.
**What's Included**
* Transportation from our meeting location
* Guided birding throughout the day
* Small group experience
* Plenty of opportunities for photography and learning
**Please Bring**
* Binoculars (if you have them)
* Camera (optional)
* Lunch and snacks
* Water
* Sunscreen, insect repellent, and weather-appropriate clothing
* Comfortable walking shoes
As always, wildlife can never be guaranteed, but we'll be visiting one of the best locations in Ontario for this rare and beautiful bird.
I look forward to sharing another great day in nature with you!

We will begin our adventure at The ArQuives, to see an exhibit The Wild and The Weeds, about Hanlan’s Point Beach is positioned as more than the site of the 1971 Gay Day Picnic.

34 Isabella St, Toronto, ON M4Y 1N1
Then we will head over to the Foy House, a queer art gallery, owned by Georgia W. This heritage building, has survived the wrecking ball of gentrification, and hosts a monthly gayming event.

92 Isabella St, Toronto, ON M4Y 1N4
Our walk continues past the The Home Children Plaque
Beginning in 1869, British charitable societies removed children from slums and orphanages in congested industrial cities and brought them to Canada to serve as cheap farm and domestic labour.
Dr. Barnardo arranged for many *children* to be sent to *Toronto*, where they were sent to work on farms or serve as domestic help.

Our next stop is the AIDS memorial in Barbara Hall Park.
Here we will stop for a moment of silence for those who died from this terrible illness.

Next stop is the 519 Community Centre. For fifty years, The 519 has been a place where community gathers, organizes, celebrates, and shows up for one another. It’s a place to imagine something better.
August 15-22, they will host an exhibition of their
fifty years of caring for this community.

519 Church St, Toronto, ON M4Y 2C9
Then we will head past the former location of Glad Day Bookshop. Opened in 1970 by [Jearld Moldenhauer](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jearld_Moldenhauer "Jearld Moldenhauer"), it was the city's and Canada's first bookstore targeted to the [gay](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gay "Gay") community.
If you need some Queer literature, they have relocated to 32 Lisgar.

No queer walk is complete without going to City Park Apartments, the apartment complex was vital to the development of the Church–Wellesley Village in the 1950s.

Then it's time for some beer and social time at the Hair of the Dog Pub.
