Group Singing By Ear
Welcome to the Group Singing in Brooklyn Meetup! We’ve been meeting consistently for a year now, and we’ve had two successful performances so far!
For this meeting, we'll learn the harmony for some popular songs, and we'll also work on starting to read music.
This group is geared towards singers who already match pitch and sing in tune, but you don’t have to be a professional level singer. If you’re not sure, feel free to visit and try it out.
Donations are welcome
Suggested donation: $20
Group Singing Music Readers
First we’ll work on vocal technique through a series of vocal exercises. Then we’ll sing through choral repertoire in different genres (including music composed by our members). Members are encouraged to bring in song suggestions. This workshop is designed for singers who read music. If you only sing by ear, please join us on a Saturday evening instead. If you attend regularly and are comfortable with the music we're working on, you are welcome to perform with us in December. Performance is not mandatory.
There's no fee to attend, but donations are appreciated.
VoicePlay
VoicePlay is a safe space to play with voice as a tool for healing and expression.
Come explore your embodied expression in this cozy afternoon of somatic and vocal exploration and experimentation. We will play with vocal improvisation, relaxation of the body, deep listening, traditional somatic practices and connection with the inner sounds waiting to be expressed!
We begin with stretches and breathing exercises to relax the body and open the flow of expression. We then move to a playful voice exploration, creating a safe and brave space to play with voice and movement as tools for healing and expression as a group, including unpitched sounds as well as traditional singing warm-ups. We will explore and be silly with the curiosity of the inner child. The workshop concludes with a group voice and movement improvisation.
You will not be asked to sing or perform alone in front of the group.
Think free form dance with vocal expression as a central focus!
Bring a water bottle, wear clothes for movement and dance, and please arrive on time.
The doors will close promptly and the workshop will begin at 1:15pm.
Hosted by Mela Closs, voice ritualist and musician creating playful experiences grounded in imagination and healing.
