National Arboretum (dogs welcome)
It is Azalea season at the National Arboretum! (see link for info about the park). [U.S. National Arboretum](https://www.usna.usda.gov/)
Join me for a visit to one of my favorite, dog-friendly, beautiful, and FREE(!!!) parks in the area. Despite the forecast for a chillier Monday (About 50 degrees), we will walk through the gorgeous hilly trails and marvel at the beautiful display.
The park ecompasses about 450 acres and has about 9 miles of roadways, plus lots of walking paths through the various areas and displays. There is SO much to see that it is easy to spend a whole day there, but usually a few hours is plenty. Please make sure you have sturdy and comfortable walking/hiking shoes and water, even though it will be cool out.
There is plenty of parking. You can grab a map at the Adminstration Building, use the restrooms, and meet me out front by the benches (no dogs allowed in the building, but there are other restrooms elsewhere, or I can hold your dog for you) :-). We will head right over to the Azaleas. After that, feel free to explore the park on your own, by foot or by car (or even bike!), or stick with me (and my pups) and check out more of the park as we put on some mileage walking to various parts of the park. The park is a good mix of flat grade and some pretty decent hills (especially in the Japanese & Chinese Gardens - they go all the way down to the Anacostia River). I am not listing any particular "mileage" or "speed" for this visit, as you can do as much or as little with me as you would like. I have been there many times and have my favorite places, but always love to explore.
LEASHED dogs are welcome in the park, except in the Bonsai Museum (which is absolutely INCREDIBLE if you have never seen it) and Penjing Museum. Again, happy to hold your dog for you if you want to check those out. It will likely not warm enough for a picnic, but please bring food/snacks/water/as there is no food sold in the Arboretum except vending machines.

Monday Evening Rock Climbing at Movement Crystal City

Hello everyone! We climb at Crystal City Movement every Monday. Please read rest of the description carefully.
We mostly do tope rope climbing but we can arrange bouldering sessions as well. If you prefer lead climbing please post on the comments to find your belay partner.

* If you are not a Movement member, you'll get a daily pass. If you don't have the equipments you can rent them in the gym.

All skill levels are welcome! If you are totally new to climbing and want to do top rope, then you have to have a belay certificate. In order to do that;

* After the course, you should do the 'Belay Check' which can be done as soon as 24 hours after you take the class. The test takes around 15 mins so it can be done before the climbing session.

To find us go down the stairs in front of the front desk. We will meet around the benches next to climbing walls.
To the Tulips Run/Walk - 40 Min
On Monday, we'll meet in front of 2100 Clarendon Blvd around 6:50pm and head out for a nice hilly run at 7pm to see the pretty flowers in bloom near Arlington Cemetery 🌷
We usually head out for a drink after the run. So if you're planning to stay after for drinks, bring your ID/etc.
Notes:
If you're not familiar with the area, please review the routes. If it's cold, take cover inside the foyer area of 2100 Clarendon Blvd.
Photos taken during the event may end up on Instagram, Meetup, Strava and similar platform.
Route:
We'll run 20 minutes out from Courthouse along Arlington Blvd towards Arlington Cemetery to check out the tulips 🌷 , and then turn around and run 20 minutes back to Courthouse. Everyone runs at his/her own pace, so the distance will depend on your speed.
Courthouse Library > 15th St > Rhodes St > Arlington Blvd sidewalk > N Meade St (Iwo Jima Memorial) > Netherlands Carillon (🔔🌷) > Arlington Cemetery > Memorial Bridge > And back 👈
Pace:
All paces are welcome! We'll be doing an out and back route, so everyone will just turn around at the halfway time marker. That way we should all start and end at the same time.
Free Parking at Courthouse Plaza:
The underground garage (http://tiny.cc/OmKZx) is on Clarendon Blvd btwn Wayne and Veitch Sts. (near Strayer/CVS and the AMC Theater). If the first 2 levels on the left are full, you can park on the lower levels to the right. Street and Surface Parking lots should be free in the area as well.
Metro:
Orange or Silver line to Courthouse Station.

Peaceful Bowie Wilderness Stroll

## **🗺️ Route**
A relaxed loop through Bowie’s quiet green spaces:
* Trailhead in White Marsh Park
* Bridge to Spur Way
* Acorn Hill Park
* Bowie Marketplace
* Back across the bridge to the trailhead
Approx. **1.5 miles** (more if the group adds scenic loops or detours). Takes **40–90 minutes**, depending on pace and stops.
## **🌿 Terrain**
* Mostly paved (macadam)
* Short sections of packed dirt
* Some gentle hills
## **🐾 Dogs**
Friendly, **leashed dogs are welcome**.

We will only be doing 3 miles overall in this hike, out and back.
Parking and Metro Access:
Park in the garage near 7150 Woodmont Ave, Bethesda, MD 20815.
Or park on the streets----- street-parking is free on Sundays.
For metro: just get down at Bethesda metro station.
We will meet at the trailhead next to the Ourisman Honda, check out the photo section of this event for a visual of the location.

Social: Gokyo Lakes, Nepal
Michael Martin will discuss his most recent trip to Nepal, a trek to Gokyo Lakes in the Khumbu region. The highest freshwater lake system in the world, Gokyo Lakes offers visitors access to views of the highest mountains in the world, without the press of the highly traveled route to Everest Base Camp. Michael will also briefly discuss his past trips to Nepal, and offer tips to those considering a future visit.

**Over time I'm hoping to organize a hike to all the Franklin County Metro Parks. This is the first one so if you're interested jump in!**
**We'll start with the Canopy Walk, a cool feature of this park. Climb 100 stairs to the top - or take the elevator if stairs aren't your thing. At the top there are a bunch of things to play on - a rope bridge, a fireman pole that we can slide down - and more! About fifteen minutes there and we'll head to the natural trail, Buttonbush, Maple and Beech Trail for 2.2 miles then do a 1.7 mile loop on the paved Greenway Trail. We'll be passing our cars as we transition if you only want to do the first loop, or the second loop. Pace of around 3.5 mph but no one left behind.**

Hike Pickerington Ponds
We'll hike 3.4 miles on the Killdeer and Yellowlegs Trails - both out and back gravel trails. If we want more mileage we can repeat an out and back. Pace of around 3.5 mph, no one left behind and those who want to go faster sure can!
As always optional lunch after.
This is the second Metro Park in the lineup for me - with 21 to go (plus more are being added).
Hoover Dam Hike
Join us for one of our favorite hikes this Tuesday (4/21/26) at 6:30 pm as we hike the Hoover Dam Scenic Trail, starting at the west end of the dam. This hike includes some paved paths/roads along with some dirt trails, with a few beautiful views of the reservoir. Join us for this 2 mile hike, finding us in the parking lot at the corner of Sunbury and Smoke Burr.
