The Great Trentham Spudfest Day Trip by V/Line
Join me for a relaxed day trip to The Great Trentham Spudfest on Saturday 2 May.
Spudfest is Trentham’s annual celebration of food, local produce, music, makers, community, and all things potato. Saturday is the Street Fair day, with different precincts across town, plenty of food to try, live music, local stalls, activities, and a lively regional festival atmosphere.
We’ll meet at 8:40am outside the V/Line Tickets and Information office on the Ground Floor at Southern Cross Station. The plan is to catch the 9:01am V/Line service from Southern Cross Station, then return on the 5:44pm V/Line coach from Trentham.
Once we arrive, we’ll explore the festival at a relaxed pace, grab food, walk around the different areas, and enjoy the day. You’re welcome to stay with the group, split off for parts of the festival, take photos, browse stalls, or meet back later.
This is a casual, low-pressure day trip. It should suit people who are happy with a full day out by public transport and a relaxed festival atmosphere.

**A Few Things I’m Keen to Try**
There are a few Spudfest activities I’m personally hoping to join or try during the day.
I’m planning to participate in the Spud Olympics, possibly including several of the different races or competitions if timing works out. The festival currently lists Spud Olympics races from 10:00am to 3:00pm, with Tough Spudder at 3:00pm, at the Railway Precinct.
I’m also keen to have a go at The Great Peel Off, which is the potato peeling competition. The festival currently lists heats from 2:00pm at the Railway Precinct, and says it is open to all with peelers provided.
I’d also like to try the Devonshire Tea, which is listed as a potato scone Devonshire Tea at the Railway Precinct. Please note this one is currently listed as $10, so bring cash/card if you’d like to try it too.
You’re welcome to join me for any of these, or explore the festival at your own pace. We don’t all need to do the same activities the whole time.
**Tickets**
Spudfest Street Fair entry is free, but some activities or special events may be ticketed or paid.
Everyone attending will need to pre-purchase their own V/Line ticket. I’ve already purchased my own ticket.
Please check your own public transport ticket, connection details, and live service updates before travelling.
**What to bring**
* Comfortable walking shoes
* Weather-appropriate clothing
* Water bottle
* V/Line ticket
* Phone power bank if needed
* A small bag for anything you buy
* Cash/card for food, stalls, and any paid activities
**What to expect**
* Distance: Light walking around the festival precincts
* Difficulty: Easy, but it is a full day out
* Pace: Relaxed and social
* Vibe: Casual, friendly, low-pressure, and welcoming to solo attendees
**Important notes**
Please arrive on time because we’ll be aiming to catch the planned V/Line service.
This event involves public transport, so delays or service changes are possible. Please check your own V/Line/PTV travel details before the day.
Some festival areas may be busy, especially around food stalls and popular activities.
**Other info**
Saturday is the main Street Fair day, with multiple festival precincts across Trentham.
The festival runs during the day, so this is intended as a full day trip rather than a short local meetup.

Bay loop (5 beaches, 2 hills) (4 spots - road trip)
[Instagram: Road Trips by The Dancing Voyager: Ron Singh](https://www.instagram.com/the_dancing_voyager_ron_trips)
Good weather! Spontaneous day trip for a loop of the bay, stopping at 5 beaches and 2 hills! Very short notice! These are always fun!
Over 60 road trips done in 4 years! I run 3 Meetup groups (shown on my profile).
This road trip is for people new to Australia who have not been to this location (International Students, Working Holiday Makers and tourists)! No evidence is required. I will trust you!
**Details given below in sections: (1) Questions / (2) Road trip itinerary / (3) Payment / (4) Responsibility / (5) Breaks / (6) Weather / (7) Phone charging / (8) Contact**
**\-\-\- \(1\) QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS \-\-\-**
**Your questions for me:** Why is the total fee so low at $20, covering a new, large rental (SUV), fuel and driver, on something that seems really high quality and well planned, like a private tour company? Sounds too good to be true or that there is a catch. Is this genuine?
**My answers to you:** Because this project is my community service to give back. I explain this further below. The low fee is just a formality to confirm your place, so that I know you are serious on attending.
This is genuine. Over 60 road trips done in 4 years! I have created precious memories for many people new to Australia. Photos on Instagram link further above.
**\-\-\- \(2\) ROAD TRIP SUMMARY AND ITINERARY \-\-\-**
Day trip for a loop of the bay, stopping at 5 beaches and 2 hills. Vehicle will be going on a ferry to complete the loop! Amazing changes in scenery during the entire road trip!
**Itinerary: Arthurs Seat lookout - Rye Beach - Sorrento - relaxing ferry crossing to Queenscliff (45 minutes) - Thirteenth Beach - Torquay Beach - Bells Beach - You Yangs mountain range lookout (you can swim at the beaches (except Bells) or just walk/relax)**
**Meeting point: Fed Square, 8:45 am**. Back there by **6:45 pm**. Meet by the steps (main entrance, opposite the Swanston Street tram stop).
**\-\-\- \(3\) PAYMENT \-\-\-**
**Total fee: $20 in total (no other costs). This covers a new, large rental (SUV), fuel and driver.**
**Eventbrite link for payment:**
[https://bay-loop-road-trip.eventbrite.com.au](https://bay-loop-road-trip.eventbrite.com.au/)
**Cancellations:** If I cancel the road trip for any unforeseen issues, a full refund will be given. If you cancel, there is no refund.
**Why is the fee so low?**
The low fee is just a formality. It might sound too good to be true or that there is a catch. There is no catch. I am simply someone who has been giving back for many years. I playfully call this project a “Melbourne travel secret”!
There are people in this world who want to genuinely give back without any expectations because they are truly fulfilled and grateful for what they have. I am one of those people. This is my community service. I am not doing this for money and I never have. Money cannot buy passion.
The nature of majestic Australia helped me find peace and passion and I want to give back by sharing that inspiring nature with people new to this country. If they are also inspired by that nature, then that is my reward. There is no hidden agenda in doing this project.
The reason I am being quite upfront is because in this day and age, there is always a catch when people do something like this. There is none with me and I am not selling or promoting anything. I do not need anything because I have peace, passion and fulfilment. I have everything. I am truly humbled and grateful.
Photos from road trips are on Instagram link below:

**\-\-\- \(4\) RESPONSIBILITY\, LIABILITY\, SAFETY \-\-\-**
As your driver, I am responsible and liable for your safety while we are in the vehicle. Passengers are insured as per the Australian law.
For times we are outside the vehicle, we then become responsible for our own liability and safety, just like every other capable adult in society.
**\-\-\- \(5\) BREAKS/MEALS \-\-\-**
There will be many breaks for sightseeing/walks. I will stop at places where food/snacks will be sold but you are welcome to bring your own as well. There will be a lunch break at either a cafe or takeaway shop.
**\-\-\- \(6\) WEATHER AND WHAT TO WEAR \-\-\-**
I plan events when weather looks good but please also see itinerary for location details and check the forecast to dress accordingly. My advice is to always be prepared! Recommend to have something to cover you if rain suddenly appears or if winds suddenly get cool. Also recommend to carry sunscreen and a hat.
Please also wear good, comfortable shoes that can provide protection from water (in case there are muddy areas). You can bring many things, as the vehicle will have a lot of storage space.
My road trips do not have a lot of long walks. The focus is on sightseeing, relaxing and appreciating the beauty of nature.
**\-\-\- \(7\) PHONE CHARGING \-\-\-**
Please charge your phone before joining. In the past, people have taken lots of videos and photos and used up their batteries! You can bring your charging cable if you want. The vehicle will have various charging ports.
**\-\-\- \(8\) CONTACT \-\-\-**
If you need to contact me, please reach out through Meetup, Eventbrite or Instagram. If you wanted my mobile number, please let me know.

Sunday Bus: Wombelano Falls / Andrew Hill - 12.5km and 18km - 22 Mar
**WALK DESCRIPTION:**
Both groups start at the same point at the corner of Extons and Captains Creek Roads. The initial route followed will be basically the same, however, the easier group will do a 1.5km circuit to view the Wombelano Falls. (The Wombelano Falls loop is a lovely walking circuit but the falls are not specular unless there has been heavy rain.) From the junction with the Wombelano Falls loop both groups will continue along the Easement Track until the Powerline Track is reached. This track is a pleasant downhill track which affords great views. Only a short section of this track is exposed. Most is shaded.
Both groups will continue until Island Creek Picnic Area is reached. There is a small creek crossing before this point that at least one leader got her feet wet but it is not major. Once reaching the Island Creek Picnic Area the two walks diverge, with the Easy/Medium group following the lovely tree ferned track along Island Creek to the Gums Camp and the awaiting bus. The Medium walk will do a more challenging uphill route to Andrew Hill with a 320m climb through tree-lined tracks before descending to the Gums.
These are a lovely walks, close to Melbourne, which highlight so many enjoyable aspects of the bush on our doorstep. A reminder to bring a change of footwear for the trip back, because dirty boots leave marks on the bus that our club pays to have cleaned.
Please note that at this time of year there is always a possibility of encountering snakes, and appropriate leg covering is recommended.
As the weather can be warm at this time of year, **please carry at least 2 litres of water.**
.
**DISTANCE(S):** 12.5km and 18km
.
**TOTAL ASCENT(S):** 250m Rise and 520m Rise
.
**GRADINGS:** Easy/Medium and Medium
**Easy/Medium (E/M):** More consistent walking, mostly on tracks or in open country, but with some significant hills, probably some stretches of light scrub. Possibility of some rock hopping. Distances up to 19km but may be much shorter depending on the difficulty of the terrain. Reasonable lunch and rest stops.
**Medium (M):** Consistent walking on tracks or in open bushland, usually with patches of thicker scrub, several moderate climbs, and/or rock hopping. Distances up to about 22kms with reasonable rest stops. A good level of fitness and walking experience is required.
