Cosy Cave Conversations // 10ème // Café philo in English
Cosy Cave Conversations // 10ème // Café philo in English
**Step into the laid-back charm of Cosy Cave Conversations**, a Parisian philosophy chat that's more relaxed than a cat in a sunbeam 🐈 🌞 Gather with a bunch of easygoing souls, share thoughts on the good life and its mysteries, enjoy a beverage, and have a good laugh. A few things to be aware of: * **Please** **don't show up without a spot** (we aim to keep it cosy and we always have a waiting list these days — check if you’re on the list or the waiting list) * If it's your first event, it's essential you **turn up early, or at the latest on time (<7pm)** so you understand how it works, what the topic is and don't interrupt the session * The **session runs from 7pm to 8:30pm** where we focus on the discussion, but don't worry, you'll have a chance to socialise, introduce yourselves and continue the chat after the session. **If you’re running late** (the curtains are closed), that’s okay, but please wait to join us in the break rather than interrupting the session. * Please read the **tips below** for a good session before coming along **How does it work?** We embrace the café-philo method — proposing intriguing topics on the night (up to 3), choosing one together, and diving into everything from consciousness, community, death and god, while managing to keep it light and easy 🦦 **Forget the stiff atmosphere**, we're all about small groups (\~10 people) and unpretentious chats with no homework required. No need for a philosophy degree, just bring your open mind and a dash of curiosity. **Join us every Wednesday 19h-20h30 at Les Acolytes** — because pondering the profound is better with good company (and a pint). See you there! 🎉 A few tips for a great session: * come with an **open and curious mind** 🧠 * **prioritise listening to others and asking questions** without interrupting or long monologues 👂 * we put a strong **emphasise on giving everyone a chance to contribute to the discussion**, so try and be aware of how much space and time you take up when speaking 🐻‍❄️ * we prioritise **intellectual accessibility**: this is not an academic group therefore we ask to keep any philosophy jargon to a minimum and instead explain any concepts in plain english 🤠 * we are an **apolitical group** that focuses on discussing and exploring philosophical ideas without endorsing or aligning with any specific political or religous ideologies. Our aim is to encourage open, unbiased dialogue centered on philosophical inquiry within a safe and respectful environment 🐥

[LIVE PERFORMANCE] Ched William

Deep Talk / In English
Deep Talk / In English
🍩🍰 Let's have a weekly deep talk in an intimate Parisian café, share a drink and have a good time with like-minded, lovely and chill people. 🥂☕ We're here to sip life in a childish, simple and non-serious way. 🙃 When was the last time you had a meaningful conversation? Or deepened your relationship with someone in your life? It's not easy to have a deep conversation. While small talk, which is typically casual and light-hearted, can help break the ice, it may not necessarily help you form a deep, emotional connection with someone. Whether it's with your friends, family, colleagues or romantic partners, having meaningful conversations is important for creating strong bonds. "Meaningful conversations help us understand ourselves and those around us better. They involve sharing important aspects of ourselves and actively listening, validating and connecting with others." We believe that a happy and healthy life is built on beautiful relationships and that loneliness kills us. That's it. It's not the number of friends that counts, it's the quality of the relationship. ✅ This group is adressed to : ● People who want to build deep, genuine and caring relationships in a small group that looks the same, where they feel comfortable and emotionally safe to talk emotionally and get intimate about anything in their lives. ● Simple, loving, kind, hyper/sensitive and lovely people who spend a lot of time in their bubble thinking about the meaning of life, passionate about personal development, philosophy, meaningful conversations, debates .... ⛔ Please don't subscribe if : ● You don't see yourself in the group's aims and beliefs. ● You're travelling for a short period of time and don't live or intend to live in Paris. ● You are not sure if you will be able to come, please update your status to allow others on the waiting list to join. An absence without notice will result in an irrevocable ban. Progress : ● ❗ For reservations, I'll send you a private Meetup message at least 5 hours before the meeting to confirm your reservation. If I don't receive a reply 2 hours before the meeting, I will send you a second message to let you know that you will be replaced by someone on the waitlist. ● 💚 We keep the session small, cosy and relaxed in a quiet place, prioritising regularity to encourage intimacy, connection, listening and speaking. (\~ 5/6 people) ● 🔖 On arrival, if you feel comfortable, you will be suggested to choose and associate several drawn Feelings and Needs cards to express how you really feel at the moment, to talk about ourselves and communicate effectively. ● 📝 The best way to make progress is to make the conversation easy and natural, with everyone making an effort to suggest and write down what you want to talk about. You can write down your favourite topics/questions before the meeting. The meeting is participative and invite everyone if you feel comfortable being a leader and a power of suggestion. Anyway, to keep the meeting running smoothly, I'll animate the meeting to make sure the conversation doesn't get wild or boring and I wouldn't hesitate to reframe people. In case of lack of inspiration we have a lot of deep conversation question card game which can help to find interesting questions. ● 🍕 (Not compulsory) After the meeting we can finish in a nearby restaurant for those who wish to relax or continue our conversation. Advice for a good moment : ● Leave your ego and mask at home, we are not here to impress anyone but to be ourselves with our strength, weakness, pride and shame. Come with an open/deep/emotional/complex thought and vulnerability. ● Ask open-ended questions and invite the other person to describe what a situation was like for them or how they felt. ● Don't hesitate to be vulnerable and share information about yourself if needed. Consider sharing personal information first to gain the other person's trust. ● Adopt an attitude of curiosity and genuine interest in what the other person is saying. Be thoughtful and try to put yourself in the other person's shoes so that you can see things from their perspective. Be truthful, caring and honest. ● Listen actively and ask follow-up questions. ● Be empathetic and offer emotional validation so that they feel seen and heard. It is forbidden to judge, but try to understand. ● ⏱ Be aware of your speaking time for Equally Speak. ● 🤫 Be aware never to provoke political or religious ideologies, but to accept differences of belief. Advice on non-violent communication can be given in the meeting to learn not to unintentionally hurt anyone when requested or needed. ● 🚨 Remember to maintain a safe, and benevolent environment. People who are considered to be disruptive, problematic or simply not in tune with the energy of the group will not be allowed to return. Finally, we're hug-friendly !!! 🤗

7 Mile Brooklyn Bridge Hike
7 Mile Brooklyn Bridge Hike
We'll be starting from Herald Square, zig-zagging down Manhattan through Madison Square Park, Union Square, St. Marks Place, Astor Place, Washington Square Park, Bleecker Street, Little Italy, and Chinatown, then across the Brooklyn Bridge, then down the Brooklyn Promenade. After directing everybody where to go to get the R/2/3/4/5 trains home, those interested will stop for dinner at a diner that does separate checks and takes credit cards. We should be reaching the restaurant around 5:15 pm. The hike will be during Daylight Savings, so the sun will set about an hour after we get to the restaurant. We should be reaching the restaurant at about 5:15pm, 31 minutes before sunset. There are no vaccine or mask mandates, neither to attend the hike nor to attend dinner at the end. Many years ago, this meetup would do Brooklyn Bridge hikes. This hike will begin at a different place than those hikes and be about a mile longer. We'll be starting in Herald Square, just north of the Broadway entrance to Macy's, near the entrance and roughly halfway between 34th & 35th Streets. There are restrooms available at Macy's in the basement -- the women's room is in the northeast corner, and the men's room is in the middle of the southern edge of the basement. Make sure you use the bathroom, because after that, the next bathroom won't be until Washington Square Park. Attendance on this hike is free, and all participants attend at their own risk. By attending, you consent to the terms of the release waiver. In it, you basically give up any right whatsoever to sue, to the fullest extent possible by law. You can read the waiver here: **[http://bluejacket7.com/legal/WalkingWaiver.doc](http://bluejacket7.com/legal/WalkingWaiver.doc)**

Arden Point & Glenclyffe trail to Sugarloaf Hill Hike
Arden Point & Glenclyffe trail to Sugarloaf Hill Hike
Many of us have hiked the trails around the Garrison train station. Let's spend more time here and hike the Arden Point trail. There are some nice views along the Hudson from Arden Point. We will then continue on the Glenclyffe trail and make our way to Sugarloaf Hill. The summit is partially wooded but has a nice viewpoint looking down the Hudson River Valley towards the Bear Mountain Bridge (one of my favorite views). The steepest sections of the trail are within the last half mile approaching the top. While Arden Point is considered easy, the Sugarloaf Hill section is considered moderately difficult. You can wait at the base for the group to return if you want to skip this part. The viewpoint is a great place to have lunch. Let's meet at Grand Central at 8:30 and catch the 8:50 train to Garrison (arriving at 10:12). Meet at the info booth at the food court level, down the ramp from the Oyster Bar. Bring plenty of water and wear sturdy shoes/boots. Also bring a packed lunch. We will need to be mindful of weather conditions particularly snow and ice. I may need to reschedule if these conditions are prevalent.
