Philosophy Group Meeting -- Hebrew
Join us in the search for the true, the good and the beautiful.
Each meet is in one of two formats: a shared reading and open discussion of philosophical texts, or a continuing series of lectures based on the reading of a fascinating book of philosophy. Both formats are in Hebrew, with some reading of English texts, assisted whenever needed.
We meet weekly Friday on 80 Rokach Boulevard, Tel Aviv, at the gardens of the Council for a Beautiful Israel.
Welcome anyone interested in understanding life more deeply, regardless of age or prior knowledge. The love of wisdom is enough.
Please join our WhatsApp group:

Note: there's always enough sitting room, but some of it is on the grass or a mat on the floor. If you want to guarantee yourself a chair, please bring one with you.

**š¤ Featured Sessions**
**A Match Made in Heaven: LLM Judgment at Vector-Search Speed**
**Speaker: Shon Mendelson, Staff AI Scientist @ Intuit**
Last year, I spent far too long chasing a stubborn data quirk: why our system couldn't see that āThe Law Offices of John Millerā and āMiller, John S. PLLCā were the same entity. It led to a bigger question: can you achieve LLM-level judgment at vector-search speeds? Traditional vector search is fast, but often misses subtle context like this, while relying entirely on LLMs is too slow and costly for production at scale.
In this talk, Iāll share how we bridged that gap at Intuit with a hybrid system that combines fast vector search, efficient small transformer-based models, and fine-tuned SLMs. The result is a system capable of handling millions of weekly entity comparisons, significantly boosting recall while maintaining precision levels comparable to traditional methods.
**Dr. Data: How We Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the AI Bomb**
**Speaker: Dr. Adi Sarid, CEO @ Sarid Research**
When GenAI dropped, our quant market research agency had a beautifully naive thought: "We can finally replace all our human labelers with a simple API call!" Spoiler alert: Scaling AI without hallucinations isn't quite that simple.
Join us for a brutally honest, technical look at our data science team's journey from prompt-panic to AI-powered productivity. Weāll share our biggest wins and hardest lessons regarding evaluation frameworks, the rapid obsolescence of custom packages, and the newfound "full-stack audacity" of modern data scientists.
**Cost-Efficient AI Systems in Practice**
**Speaker: Michael Levinger, Senior AI Engineer @ Melio**
Deploying large language models and AI agents in real-world systems requires a constant trade-off between cost, latency, and performance. This talk explores how to optimize LLM- and agent-based systems using techniques such as caching, model routing/cascades, tuning, RAG, and distillationāsignificantly reducing costs without sacrificing quality. Through a case study of an ATO-agent system, weāll also cover practical approaches to cost estimation, monitoring, and budgeting.
In addition, weāll compare leading industry modelsāsuch as Gemini, Claude, and GPTāfocusing on differences in response speed, cost efficiency, and real-world performance, and how to choose the right model for each use case within broader agentic workflows.

**Abstract**
*Customize the IDE: Building Extensions for Visual Studio Code*
Visual Studio Code is one of the most widely used development environments today, and much of its flexibility comes from its extension ecosystem. Extensions allow developers to customize the editor with new features, integrations, and workflow improvements tailored to their needs.
In this session, weāll cover what extensions are and the different types available, including full extensions written in TypeScript or JavaScript, along with lighter-weight extensions such as color themes, language packs, language support, code snippets, and keymaps. Weāll also look at practical reasons a developer might create an extension, from automating repetitive tasks to adding custom tooling.
The session includes a hands-on walkthrough of creating a new extension, testing it locally, and understanding the basic project structure. Weāll close with a brief overview of how extensions are packaged and published to the Visual Studio Marketplace and other distribution options.

Speak Easy (Storytelling)
The topic for June is "Roadtrip"
Speak Easy: true stories, told live.
The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast.
Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect.
The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome. Hang around after the show for a drink and build community!

How to Be a Better Communicator - Free Seminar
Communication is everything in life
You are only as successful as your ability to communicate.
\- What if you could confidently talk to anyone?
\- What if you had the ability to calmly control every conversation?
\- What if you could close that sale\, ask for that date\, make new friends\, repair problematic relationships\, get that raise\, or effortlessly express any idea with confidence?
You can!
The secret to success relies on your ability or inability to effectively communicate. Attend a free seminar and gain a better ability to communicate.
Hosted by the Church of Scientology of Central Ohio
