Every 250 years, let's celebrate America's Independence!
The Great American State Fair Share
This epic event will run for two weeks, I want to create a MeetUp giving others, like myself, a way to meet new friends and get out there for any day you have available. Each day will be a duplicate event, giving everyone the ability to sign up for the day they have free. I will not be at every event as I work three days a week, but I will put in the messages the days I'll be there. The Metro Smithsonian is a great place to meet since it's right at one of the two entrances. The only two entrances are at 12th and 4th and Jefferson. If you want to go to one or several of the days just hit the attend and message those who are also planning on attending that day. You can coordinate the times as well. Let's make new friends and experience the 250 anniversary of our country.

Bansy in Bethesda. Canceled
**The concert has been cancelled due to the forecasted extreme heat**
The band Bansy will be part of the Summer Concert Series I. Bethesda.
Their set list spans genres and generations. They blend classic guitar anthems with today’s most popular pop hits. With multiple lead vocalists, instrument switching, and an energetic, interactive stage presence, they focus on keeping the crowd engaged, singing along, and having a great time from start to finish.
Bring a chair. Try to get there early to help me grab some tables.
Come Play Bruxelles 1893
It's the first Thursday of the month, and that means we will be replaying a game we played recently: ***Bruxelles 1893.***
From BGG: ***Bruxelles 1893*** is a worker placement game with elements of bidding and majority control. Each player is an architect of the late 19th century and is trying to achieve, through various actions, an architectural work in the Art Nouveau style. The most successful building yields the most points. Each player can also create works of art to increase their score.

Learn about the localized history of Frederick Douglass in Old Anacostia and Barry Farm for the last quarter-century of his life.
Developed in the mid-19th century as one of the District’s first suburbs, Anacostia and its residents played a key role in shaping the city we know today. A walking tour led by historian and author John Muller traces its history and significance with a focus on the man that came to be known as the “Lion of Anacostia,” Frederick Douglass, who lived in the neighborhood from 1877 until his death in 1895.
Blending historic research and contemporary neighborhood affairs and news, our guide will lead the group on a walk through time, exploring one of Washington City's most misunderstood and sacred communities. Stories of presidents, local personalities, famed resident Frederick Douglass, 19th-century architecture and neighborhood folklore will be woven throughout. Questions and photography are encouraged throughout the walking tour!

**John Muller, author of Frederick Douglass in Washington, D.C.: The Lion of Anacostia (2012)** and Mark Twain in Washington, D.C.: The Adventures of a Capital Correspondent (2013), has presented widely throughout the DC-Baltimore metropolitan area at venues including the Library of Congress, Enoch Pratt Library, DC Public Library, Frederick Douglass National Historic Site and local universities. Muller is a frequent guest on Washington, D.C. radio stations and has been cited by the Washington Post, Washington City Paper, Star Democrat, Salisbury Independent and other publications for his local history research and subject matter expertise. He has been featured on C-SPAN’s BookTV and C-SPAN’s American History TV, broadcast airwaves of NBC4 (Washington), WDVM (Hagerstown) and radio stations WPFW (DC), WAMU (DC), WYPR (Baltimore), WEAA (Baltimore), Delmarva Public Radio (Eastern Shore) and West Virginia Public Broadcasting. Special 250th Independence Day Weekend Tour!: Hamilton vs. Jefferson, DC!
Hamilton vs. Jefferson: The Great Debate 2026, July 5, 5:45 pm, Willard Hotel DC!
On the 250th anniversary weekend of America, what better time to look at the life of Alexander Hamilton, and the real backstory between him and his chief rival, Thomas Jefferson!
During their time as ranking officials in the first federal Administration, under President Washington, Secretary of State Jefferson and Treasury Secretary Hamilton laid down the dividing lines on many of the issues we still battle over today. Speak Easy (Storytelling)
The topic for July is "Shoes"
Speak Easy: true stories, told live.
The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast.
Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect.
The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome. Hang around after the show for a drink and build community!
