✨🌙 EXPLORE LUMIÈRE: THE ART OF LIGHT 🌙✨
✨🌙 **EXPLORE LUMIÈRE: THE ART OF LIGHT** 🌙✨
An Outdoor Night Walk of Light, Art & Waterfront Vibes
Let’s go chase some light.
Join us for **Lumière: The Art of Light** (formerly the Winter Light Exhibition) in its beautiful new home at **Trillium Park**.
This free outdoor exhibition transforms the park into an illuminated art experience, featuring works by Ontario artists who use light, innovation, and creativity to reimagine public space. This year’s curatorial theme is *“Renewal”* — celebrating the shift from winter into spring, longer days, and that subtle feeling that something new is beginning.
There’s something magical about walking by the water at night, surrounded by glowing installations and good company. It’s reflective. It’s playful. It’s very Toronto.

\*\*\*
🌉 The Plan
We’ll meet at the iconic **Princes' Gates**, then walk together over to Trillium Park.
We’ll spend about an hour exploring the installations at a relaxed pace — taking photos, chatting, and soaking it in.
Afterward, we’ll continue the evening with food and drinks by the waterfront. Most likely we’ll head to **Shoeless Joe's Sports Grill** along Queens Quay. We’ll hop on the TTC streetcar for a few stops to get there.
Art first. Social second. Best of both worlds.
\*\*\*
🧥 What to Bring
This is an outdoor nighttime event — please dress properly.
* Warm coat
* Hat & gloves
* Warm boots or sturdy shoes
* Something warm to drink

Designing Accessible Games Without Compromising the Fun
Join us on March 19 for an in person a11yTO session focused on accessibility in game design.
We all want our games to be engaging and enjoyable. But what happens when the mechanics that make a game fun create barriers for some players? How do we build accessible games while preserving the core loops and interactions that define the experience?
In this 40 minute talk Rick will share lessons learned from building accessible first web and mobile games at Relish Digital & Games. Accessibility was not treated as an afterthought. It was a requirement from day one.
Working with organizations such as TFO, PBS Kids, the American Heart Association, and the NFL, Rick and his team developed games designed specifically for children with a wide range of disabilities including blindness, low vision, Deaf and Hard of Hearing communities, physical impairments, neurodiversity, and intellectual disabilities.
He will walk us through real examples of the games they built, the challenges they encountered, and the practical decisions made to preserve gameplay while embedding accessibility throughout the experience.
You will learn:
* How to integrate accessibility into core mechanics instead of layering it on later
* Ways to design meaningful customization options
* What works and what does not when building inclusive interactive experiences
* How lessons from children’s games can apply to broader digital products
Whether you design for kids or adults, web or mobile, games or other interactive experiences, this session will provide practical insights and inspiration for building products that welcome more people into the experience.

Elixir TO March 2026 - In Person & Remote
Hey Toronto Elixir,
Winter is in full swing in Toronto and we are back for our first meetup of 2026!
This event will be **BOTH in person and online**! The hybrid format has been pretty successful so we are very excited to, once again, bring together local Torontonians and people from all over the world that we met during the online only meetups!
We will be **hosted by BitGo**, with pizza and beverages provided for in-person attendees courtesy of **Instinct Science**.
The appointment is for **Thursday March 19th, doors open at 6:00 pm** at the BitGo's Toronto office at 110 Spadina, 9th floor or [online](https://meet.google.com/jzv-reyt-wav).
Talks will start around **6:30pm**.
First, we're excited to welcome **Francesco Cesarini,** Founder of Erlang Solutions and author of Erlang Programming and Designing for Scalability with Erlang/OTP (https://github.com/francescoc). He'll be joining us in person for his talk **Thinking Concurrency: Dwelling in Erlang and Elixir.**
The functional paradigm has been influencing mainstream languages for decades, making developers more efficient whilst helping reduce maintenance costs. As we are faced with a programming model that needs to scale on multi-core architectures and distributed environments, concurrency becomes critical. In these concurrency models, immutability, a key feature of functional programming paradigm will become even more evident. To quote Simon Peyton Jones, future concurrent languages will be functional; they might not be called functional, but the features will be. At this meetup, we will be discussing why!
Next up, **Ben Schultzer** will present **SQL - An exploration of foreign language integration in Elixir** where he'll take a closer look at the state-of-the-art in database connection pools and disprove 30 years of dogma.
If you wanna have a chat, look for our community on the **#toronto channel** of the Elixir Slack https://elixir-lang.slack.com
p.s.
Given that this is also a remote event please feel free to extend the invite outside the Toronto community as well! We'll be happy to have you!
French at the Royal Conservatory

Venez pratiquer votre français!
\*While there is no fee to attend this event, guests are expected to purchase something from B Espresso Bar, in accordance with RCM's restrictions on usage of the cafe atrium space.
**Building location:**
The Royal Conservatory is at 273 Bloor St W, between Varsity Stadium and the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM). There are entrances off Bloor St. and Philosopher's Walk. If you enter from Bloor St through the large glass doors, follow the hallway on the left beside the staircase and turn left at the end. (Closest TTC: St. George)
**Notes and restrictions:**
The host may or may not attend this event. Attendees are encouraged to seat themselves at two or more adjacent tables, as needed. Please form groups of 6 people at each table; do not rearrange chairs and tables to accommodate more people, as this obstructs the narrow walking space. Mary Pickford stares into the camera.
Born on University Avenue, she became the girl with the golden curls, the first Hollywood star, and now Toronto is the star!
Good Will Hunting, Pacific Rim, X-Men, Robocop, Total Recall, Prom Night, Suicide Squad, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Police Academy, and the list goes on and on and on.
It was back in the 1920s that Toronto emerged as a shy newcomer. But it stepped up to the camera, smiled, and went to work. The first real feature movie was "The Man From Toronto," even though it was not filmed here, and in the late 60s Toronto was "Goin' Down the Road," that the city was Hollywood bound.
And it wasn't just movies! Television movies, series, documentaries, music videos and video games were all shot here in Toronto. Award shows such as The Genie's, Juno's, the Canadian Screen Awards, Giller Prize and The Much Music Video Awards are all celebrated here! Let's find out where the movies came alive with this unique walking tour!
This walking tour is for all walking levels and fitness skills. Please dress for the season and bring water. And remember to bring your love of movie magic as well. Hope to see you there.
This tour begins at the famous TORONTO sign at Nathan Phillips Square. We end at Front and Jarvis!
This tour has a ticket price of $15.00 per person!

Speak Easy (Storytelling)
The topic for March is "Our Bodies, Ourselves"
Speak Easy: true stories, told live.
The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast.
Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect.
The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome. Hang around after the show for a drink and build community!
OVER 50 HAPPY HOUR AT LIBERTY TAVERN IN POLARIS FRI, APRIL 10TH 4:00PM-8:00PM!
Over 50 Happy Hour – Liberty Tavern Polaris
Join us for a fun and relaxed Over 50 Happy Hour on Friday, April 10th from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Liberty Tavern Polaris.
This is a great opportunity to meet new people in our age group in a casual, comfortable setting. Whether you’re in your fifties, sixties, or seventies, everyone is welcome. Some people who attend are retired, while others are still working, but we all share one thing in common — enjoying good conversation and good company.
If you’re new to the group, don’t worry. Many people attend solo and quickly find it easy to strike up conversations. The goal of this happy hour is simple: meet people, socialize, laugh, and enjoy the evening.
We’ll be gathering at Liberty Tavern Polaris, a welcoming tavern with a warm atmosphere, great food, and a bar perfect for relaxed conversation.
Feel free to come when you can and leave when you want.
Some members arrive right at 4:00 PM, while others stop by later after work.
There’s no formal agenda — just friendly people getting together to enjoy a Friday evening.

Liberty Tavern Polaris

Columbus, Ohio

Some schedule other shifts at their convenience. You may try this out with less fuss by following a "Fast track" or go through the normal process.

The Ronald McDonald House (RMH) provides housing and meals for families with sick children. The Columbus RMH is the largest in the world with 137 rooms. COUNT has been volunteering there since May 2014.
Housewarmers work with RMH guests to provide a home-like environment - greet, assist with family needs, answer phones, give tours, assist with checkin/checkout, prepare guest rooms after checkout, clean facility, laundry, restock supplies and staff the front desk. RMH Housewarmers volunteer at least one four-hour shift a month. All Housewarmers must complete an application and agree to a background check before they can be full fledged volunteers.
Arthouse Friday: THE DRAMA at the Drexel Theatre!
Join us as we get together for an Arthouse Movie Friday event to see the A24 dark comedy /romance / psychological-thriller, THE DRAMA! The film stars Zendaya and Robert Pattinson as a happily engaged couple whose relationship is challenged when one discovers unsettling truths about the other. Here are details, a trailer and our plan for this event:
DESCRIPTION: The film follows a happily engaged couple whose relationship is put to the test when an unexpected turn sends their wedding week off the rails. The film comes from A24, is written/directed by Kristoffer Borgli stars Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Mamoudou Athie, Alana Haim, Hailey Gates and Zoë Winters.
QUICK WORD OF WARNING: The film hasn’t screened for critics yet and most of the details are being kept tightly under wraps. But, early buzz (possibly promotional) says the film is a brilliant psychological thriller/romance but also provocative, twisty and some contains occasional uncomfortable viewing! I love the cast and trailer, so look forward to seeing for ourselves!
ZENDAYA-PATTINSON TRIFECTA CHALLENGE: Robert Pattinson and Zendaya will star in THREE movies together this year, including THE DRAMA, Christopher Nolan’s THE ODYSSEY this Summer and Denis Villeneuve’s DUNE: PART THREE at Christmas!
TRAILER: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zmKcUa4Xxk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zmKcUa4Xxk)
PLAN: We’ll plan for 7pm-ish showing and will meet in the lobby area about 30 minutes before showtime! Advance ticket purchase not required for this theater but early arrival is advised. Possibly post-movie get-together at the nearby Rusty Bucket! Complete details will be confirmed/announced as the date gets closer.

Shut Up & Write!® East Side Columbus
Join us for an hour of writing! We’ve discovered that it’s strikingly helpful to write with other writers. See if it’s true for you at 7:00pm on Wednesday, March 25 at Streetlight Guild.
Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done.
**SCHEDULE:**
6:45ish - Quick introductions
7:00 - Timer starts: write for 1 hour
8:00 - The End
**OPTIONAL SOCIALIZING** happens before and after the writing hour. Writing is very solitary. Connecting (and sometimes even commiserating) with other writers is a cool thing.
**BEING LATE IS OKAY:** just show up and get settled! If you were on time, please be willing to make room for the friendly latecomer.
Happy writing & I look forward to seeing you at Streetlight Guild!
**WHAT SHOULD I BRING?**
Whatever you need to be able to write! You're welcome to bring earplugs/headphones if noise will bother you!
**OTHER IMPORTANT DETAILS:**
* **RSVP:** Please RSVP by 6:00pm the evening of the meeting. This helps me know how many to expect, and if we'll need additional space!
* **COVID:** While masks are not required, please be mindful of the other writers around you and their comfort levels.
* **WIFI/OUTLETS:** Outlets are limited, so please ensure your devices are charged when you come! But Streetlight Guild does have free WiFi! Yay!
