Aunque Suiza nunca fue una potencia colonial, muchas de sus empresas y ciudadanos se beneficiaron de las colonias en distintos continentes. Ese intercambio no solo impulsó la economía, sino que también alimentó el desarrollo científico de la época. Hoy en día, aún podemos descubrir huellas de esa historia en diferentes rincones de la ciudad.
