OBJECTS REIMAGINED: STILL LIFE PAINTING & COLLAGE ONLINE COURSE
# OBJECTS REIMAGINED: STILL LIFE PAINTING & COLLAGE ONLINE COURSE
**Painting, abstraction, composition, collage-**
**Work with objects to create abstraction, lush layers and colour juxtapositions in this beautiful new online course with artist and London Drawing tutor Cat Tams**
This online course explores everyday objects as a dynamic subject for observing, remembering and reimagining. We will use a playful combination of painting and collage to build still life landscapes of form and colour â building confidence in developing creative and effective compositions and colour palettes that bring your still life painting to life!
We will take inspiration from artists such as Miyoko Ito, Holly Coulis, Natalie Du Pasquier and William Scott to illustrate the qualities of dynamic still life painting and to inspire our own work. Cat will lead you through a series of processes which will unlock your creativity â and help you to bring depth and confidence to your painting.
We will use the traditional subject of still life to build contemporary compositions and develop beautiful expansive pieces you will want to hang on your wall!
If you have taken a course with Cat before this will complement everything so far â and works perfectly as a stand-alone course if you are a newcomer â Recordings will be provided after each class and available for 6 weeks â extensions are available if you need it.
We hope you will join us!

**Course Endorsements:**
*Hi Cat and Anne,*
*Really enjoyed the recent Still Life in Colour course with Cat. As a relative newbie to painting still life it was an excellent introduction to the subject and there were plenty of challenging exercises which made me look closely at colour and form. The collage session was also great fun. Attached are my exercises. I hope Cat will do more on-line Still Life courses where I can build on what Iâve learnt.*
**Anton Clements â November 2025**
*Hello Again Anne and Cat,*
*What I especially liked about the workshop was the way Cat laid each session out, each one building on a better understanding of color relationships and mixing color. I especially appreciate being able to look at the recordings again and see how Cat set up her palette then mixed and applied her paint. Somehow it was much more informative that just watching someone do a demo.*
*When we were live I was focused on my own painting so it is great to see those recordings again. I think the exercise using collage to create color was very effective because it didnât make total sense until the last session when it all came together.*
**Heather Blume â November 2025**
*I found that it was a great help watching Cat on the screen mix the colours as itâs something I struggle with. Then also being able to watch her use the colours and demonstrate how she did the painting and her process was so helpful. Making a collage and then painting from a collage was a way of breaking down the process and therefore painting in a different way and I really valued this.*
*Cat showed us lots of examples of different artists always pointing out their way of working and shining a light on their process of painting. The time was very well structured and moved at a pace that was very manageable. Cat has a lovely personality and way of presenting which is so likeable and a joy to work with.*
*Thanks for putting on this class!*
**Vivien Rosenblatt November 2025**
*I wanted to give you some feedback because I loved this course!*
*I loved painting from the works of different artists. The collage and painting combination from last week was wonderful. Cat really made me stop and think about colour.*
*As someone who can be easily discouraged, I greatly appreciate Catâs relaxed attitude. Not everyone who can do something well can teach it well, she is one of those people. Iâm delighted to hear that she will be doing more, I canât wait to sign up.*
*London Drawing has quickly become important to me, the portrait classes and life drawing are pure pleasure.*
*Thank you all so much for all of your effort and hard work.*

KEY PROJECT: RE-UPHOLSTERING YOUR OWN CHAIR.
Suitable for beginners and fun for advanced learners.
This workshop is led by Krasmira Nikolova, an experienced upholsterer.
We provide the use of all upholstery tools and equipment including compressed air staple guns. Basic upholstery materials that you require for your project will be moderately charged on a pay-as-you-use basis and will be dependent on each chairâs requirements. We can advise you on the purchase of your top fabric and we have a lovely library of fabric samples to help make up your mind. The Goodlife Centre sells all the basic tools and materials for use on projects worked on at home.
This is a fantastic chance to up-cycle and personalise a family piece you have at home or a junk shop find and a great way to immerse yourself into the wonderful world of upholstery.
The course is suitable for both beginners and those who have a basic knowledge but little experience who wish to extend their expertise.
**Choosing a suitable chair**
If you are a newcomer to upholstery, there are a couple of pointers to help you choose a chair to work on. Choose something that has one or two flat planes â a seat and a back â as curves and arms are more complex and take longer to achieve.
If you are a complete beginner, you could bring something more simple such as an upholstered footstool. More experienced upholsters can bring more complex pieces. Your chair can be traditionally built or modern, but be aware that some modern pieces have been constructed using machinery and are difficult to recreate by hand.
[Click here for a detailed PDF of suitable chairs.](https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2r8UvbQtaH5RTVKUjlBdkhDX3c/view?usp=sharing)
**Please email info@thegoodlifecentre.co.uk with a photo of your chair prior to the course so we can answer any suitability questions and advise if your chair is suitable**.
We have very limited storage at the centre, so we can only store smaller pieces during the course. Please make sure the total dimensions are less than 1000mm high by 750mm wide, with a depth of 750mm.
The use of tools and machinery is included.
All materials will be charged at nominal rates. Some materials will not be kept in stock but can be ordered. Approved projects can be stored at the centre. We cannot offer additional time to work on your project outside of workshop times.

Monthly Meeting (TBD)
TOPIC (TBD):
Meeting Schedule:
1. 6:00 - Introduction, Meet New Members
2. 6:10 - Old Business
3. 6:20 - New Business
4. 6:30 - Pre-Shoot Briefing/Education
5. 7:15 - Break
6. 7:30 - Image Critique
7. 8:00 - Adjourn
Pre-Shoot Brief/Education:
NIK Collection 8
Image Critique:
Previous Photoshoot Images (iPhone images and Christmas Cards). If anyone has images they would like critiqued, please provide them at the beginning of the meeting.
Providing Images for Critique:
For now, I will collect images at the beginning of the meeting on a USB memory stick. My computer has USB-C ports, so a USB-C memory stick or one with dual (USB-C / USB-A) ports will be needed.
Images should follow these format rules:
JPG - 80% quality or higher
132 dpi resolution
2048 pixels across the long edge
Embedded colorspace - sRGB
The Completely Series
These meetings will be a building block approach to learning photographic mastery over three disciplines:
Mechanical Mastery (MM) - 13 weeks of the series
Exposure Mastery (EM) - 26 weeks of the series
Composition Mastery (CM) - A 52 week series
All three series will run concurrently and will dovetail as follows:
Q3/26 - MM (Iter 1), EM (Iter 1, Pt 1), CM (Iter 1, Pt1)
Q4/26 - MM (Iter 2), EM (Iter 1, Pt 2), CM (Iter 1, Pt2)
Q1/27 - MM (Iter 3), EM (Iter 2, Pt 1), CM (Iter 1, Pt3)
Q2/27 - MM (Iter 4), EM (Iter 2, Pt 2), CM (Iter 1, Pt4)
That's likely confusing, but essentially, MM offered 4 times in that period, EM offered 2 times, and CM offered 1 time.
**TO BE CLEAR - THERE IS NO CHARGE FOR THESE CLASSES.**
This is an aggressive series, with presentations, homework, group shoots to be added in, likely at LEAST twice a month, image critiques, and an expectation that you are willing to put in the work to elevate your photography significantly. Open to all levels and all equipment levels. Don't let hesitation about your skillset and/or gear keep you from a one-time opportunity.
The group will meet every Monday, with periodic exceptions, and we will try to keep as close as possible to the original plan. Obviously, more data to come, and will be published as this is further developed, but now is the time to decide if you want to be a part of this.

The idea behind improv is to create entire scenes from scratch based on a suggestion from the audience. This can be done in game form, like *Whose Line Is It Anyway*, *ComedySportz*, or *Wild 'n Out*; it could also be done to tell stories, like *Middleditch and Schwartz*. Our meetup, which is central Ohio's longest running (and free!) weekly comedy event, brings the games (and occasionally different forms) for you to play in a safe, supportive, and compassionate environment. Not only is it a lot of fun, but you get to work on thinking faster on your feet, plus it's an excellent way to meet new people and make friendships that'll last a lifetime!
Ask yourself if you want to join the **Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup**, and say "Yes, And" that you'll have fun!
Feel Good Friday: POWER BALLAD at the Gateway Film Center + SHAKE NO. 8!
Join us as we get together to see Paul Rudd in the latest comedy-drama-musical from John Carney, POWER BALLAD! The film follows a washed-up wedding singer, a fading boy band singer and a stolen hit song. Hereâs a description, trailer and plan for this event:
DESCRIPTION: Rick, a washed-up wedding singer, and Danny, a fading boy band star, bond over music and a late-night jam session. When Danny turns Rick's song into a hit, Rick sets out to reclaim the recognition he believes he deserves. Power Ballad is written/directed by John Carney, the master of the modern musical and creative mind behind Once, Begin Again and Sing Street! It stars Paul Rudd, Nick Jonas, Peter McDonald, Marcella Plunkett, Havana Rose Liu and Jack Reynor.
BUZZ & ACCLAIM: The film premiered to rave reviews at this yearâs Dublin International Film Festival where critics call it âa sure-fired crowd-pleaserâ that âjust might be the feel-good hit of the year!â Others say, âPaul Rudd delivers a career-best performance in this charmerâ thatâs both âhilarious and deeply moving." The film continues John Carneyâs âlong run of success with yet another charmerâ and âa sharp, hopeful crowd-pleaser that strikes the right notes!â
