2 Free Exhibitions focusing on New York and the American West followed by tea.
First, we will visit the American West, an exhibition featuring the work of Richard Avedon. These images, which picture the heart and soul of hardscrabble, working-class America, represented a significant new development in his work.
Avedon spent five years, from 1979 to 1984, travelling to twenty-one US states. He conducted more than a thousand sittings, finally producing 126 editioned images, 21 of which are on view at this exhibition.
From this exhibition, we shall take a short walk to the next gallery for another exhibition with an American theme.
New York - all seasons & Summer Still Lifes : Garner took his first US pictures in October 1973 in Richmond, Virginia. In 1976, he made his first pictures in Miami, then in 1977 in Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
This exhibition is a selection of colour images made between 2000 and 2018 in New York. At the same time, we will view a small collection of his Summer Still Life collection, taken in the south of France in the summers of 1983 and 1984.
Please note that these free exhibitions at commercial galleries are not large but are always very well curated and presented. We should expect to spend around 30 to 40 minutes at each. If we finish early, there are numerous galleries in the area, and we can pick another one or two to visit depending on timings. I already have a note of what's on.
After this exhibitions, the meetup ends, but it would be great if most if not all of us, stay for an entirely optional tea, drink, or snack in one of the many establishments in the area. This will offer a great opportunity to relax and chat socially after what should be an interesting afternoon. Depending on numbers, this can possibly be Sotheby's, which is not expensive for tea and cake or another establishment.
The exhibitions are free, but the usual £1.50 group maintenance fee applies and is non refundable. Please note that Meetup now adds about £0.60 to this as well. (If you pay cash on the day, it’s £2.50).
As always, you are participating at your own risk.
We would appreciate it if you changed your RSVP no more than 2 days before the event should you find you can no longer attend. No shows or cancellations on the day may result in you being removed from the group.
Set Healthy Boundaries
Do you struggle to say no? Do you find yourself over-explaining, people-pleasing, or feeling responsible for everyone else’s feelings? Healthy boundaries aren’t about pushing people away — they’re about protecting your time and energy, and creating more peace in everyday life.
This session explores how to:
– recognise where boundaries are needed
– let go of guilt
– communicate limits calmly and clearly

Kodak XX Cinematic Film London Street Photography Photo walk
A relaxed, four‑hour or so photo walk that starts at Bank Station, threads through the heart of the City, and lands you in Soho by 7:00 pm – perfect for capturing the post‑work buzz without feeling rushed.
## Overview
* **Start:** 4:00 pm – Bank Station (Royal Exchange side) and areas nearby
* **Midway:** 6:00 pm – Walk through St Pauls, City Thameslink, Fleet Street and then wander through Covent Garden
* **Finish:** 8:30 pm – Central Soho (Carnaby Street / Berwick Street area)
The route balances iconic landmarks, spontaneous street moments, and the gradual shift from daylight to evening neon, giving you a rich visual story in a single evening.
This walk will be about 3 to 4 miles, so please bear this in mind. You may choose to do the first half or the second half instead of the full walk :)
We will sign off the evening over drinks / food (for those able to stay back)
## Key Shooting Opportunities
* **Office exodus:** Capture groups spilling onto the pavement, coffee in hand, with the City’s glass towers framing the scene.
* **Market ambience:** Stalls and lanterns in Covent Garden add texture and warmth.
* **Neon nightlife:** Soho’s iconic signage provides bold contrasts for low‑light portraits.
## Gear & Practical Tips
* **I will provide one roll of KODAK XX 35mm film for you to use. Each roll has 36 exposures. You may choose to use it at your ISO of choice. I personally tend to stick with 800 ISO, using a slower aperture (5.6 to 11 ) in day light and faster aperture (1.5 to 2.0) in low light. However, this film can be shot at 250, 400, 800 and 1600 ISO easily**
* Please make sure you can manually select the ISO on your camera, else this film roll will default to 100 ISO and unless you have an automatic flash, you will struggle with your camera
* You can join us at any point of time in the walk . I will share our Live location on WhatsApp (will create a WhatsApp group 2 days before the walk, including the meeting point)
Please note: The aim of the walk is to shoot at least one roll of Kodak XX, which will be provided to you. If you do not intend to use XX or not use a film camera kindly do not join this particular walk
The cost of the walk includes the film roll and payment required upfront via PayPal to ensure commitment to the walk
If you require a film camera for the walk please let me know in advance and I could get one for you to use for the evening
