Writing Workshop: Craft the perfect LOGLINE for your story 📝 with Jak Writers
Hello, Jakarta Writer! **Are you a member of [Jakarta Friends](https://www.meetup.com/jakarta-friends/) yet?** Want to see **pictures** of past events? **[Take a look here!](https://www.meetup.com/jakarta-creatives/photos/)** And feel free to upload a few pictures you will take at the event 😊
JakWri (former Jakarta Creatives) and JakFri is **the** oldest, biggest, most active, and most inclusive MeetUp community in Jakarta… and we invite you to join us for this **Writing Workshop: How to craft the perfect LOGLINE for your story! 📝**
Everyone is always welcome to join our events. Our community is all about creating authentic in-person connections in this urban jungle.
Come as you are... it’s the best version of yourself.
This workshop have limited seats available. Reserve your spot today!
**ABOUT THE EVENT**
*One line. 20 Seconds. A sentence that captures immediately the imagination of your audience.*
**But... How to do that?!**
A logline is one sentence that describes your story... in the best possible way.
Pitching, amongst other things, has always been one of the toughest things about getting one's story off the ground. How do you summarize tens of thousands of words, weeks of writing, months of toiling, and defeat self-doubt into a short and memorable logline?
And once your story is out there in the world, a logline will help draw the "right" audience to your story.
Finding the essence of the story, rediscovering the protagonist's goals & struggles, and endeavoring for a fresh, iconic angle, we'll learn about the industry-standard formula for pitching your story. We will share ways to make your logline stand out in a sea of stories.
In this presentation, the host will explain his writing approach, his experience working with filmmakers and narrative-designers to explore the world of story-telling within the confines of professional storytelling. A focus will be on screenwriting and movies, but **what you will learn today will be applicable to all forms of writing and storytelling**, whether you are writing a novel, a collection of poems, non-fiction, essays, or anything else!
In essence, this workship will help you distill the core of the story in one sentence... the logline!
And there is more to it! In the second part of this workshop, everyone will have time to draft, hone, and share their logline with a peer of supportive writers to discuss and improve together!
The host will guide everyone through the art of crafting loglines and we'll workshop our own loglines—outside perspectives are valuable inputs in helping sculpt and trim the fat!
There's no set literature or resources for the discussion, however, the host will be loosely referring to tenets from these works:
* The Writer's Journey by Christopher Vogler
* Story - Substance, Structure, Style, and the Principles of Screenwriting by Robert McKee
* Save the Cat! by Blake Snyder
A writing journey can be a ton of fun, profitable, and something inspiring other writers to find their own path to success. The 45-minute presentation will be followed by Q&A and discussion, then by a 60-90 minutes workshop & discussion of our own loglines!
This event belongs to the series of "How to" workshops related to writing we have had before:
* [Introduction to SCREENWRITING for FILM & TV 🎞️🍿 with Jakarta Creatives](https://www.meetup.com/jakarta-writers/events/311945504/?utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=share-btn_savedevents_share_modal&utm_source=link&utm_version=v2&member_id=428578398)

Let's try a Friday Night Fish Fry!
We thought of one of the interesting things that can be enjoyed at this time of the year. We will be meeting at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for a "Fish Fry" in Marian Hall on Friday, March 27th at 5:00 PM.
It might be fun for you to experience what has become a tradition on the Fridays before Easter. They will have fried fish or baked fish, French fries and Cole slaw, as well as beverages, all for $16.00 for adults. They will have other beverages and desserts available for sale, as well. We have never tried this, and sometimes there are quite a few people at these events so we hope that we will be able to find each other easily. I'll try to have signs outside Marian Hall that Identify our group. We hope to have you join us!

COUNT monthly event: Kitchen service at Van Buren Center's shelter
Come assist Van Buren Shelter (https://ymcacolumbus.org/locations/vanburen) staff in serving dinners and cleaning up on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. Dinner for the women is 5-6 pm and for the families is 6:15-7:15 pm. There is ample free parking available in the shelter's lot. The recommended area to park is in green in the image above.
There will be a new entrance for the time being. We are asking all volunteers to enter through the Donation Dock door, the orange mark on the image above. This door is located between the Single Adults and Family Shelter. You will see 2 large garage doors with a large green trash compactor in the center. Please head to the closest garage door to the building wall, with a ramp leading up. There, you will see a door with a sign stating instructions on how to enter the building. Please ring the doorbell, and a staff member will come and escort you into the building. If a staff member takes longer than 5 minutes, please call the front desk at 614-689-2020. This is a new process for us, and we do not want to keep you waiting! We appreciate your patience as we navigate this temporary change.
The shelter needs a volunteer count the day before the event so sign-up ends Monday at 4:50 PM. Afterwards some of us go to the Omnipresent Atheists Weekly Meetup in progress to have a bit to eat or drink (http://www.meetup.com/omnipresentatheists/).
Volunteers must be 14 or older. Since we will be working around families, the YMCA does not permit volunteering by individuals with convictions for violent or sexual crimes. The YMCA reserves the right to run background checks on volunteers.
For questions, comment on this page or contact: Andrew, awhit12@yahoo.com, (614)937-5802 (cell). Please let Andrew know if you volunteer anytime other than our COUNT events so that he can count your hours toward our service record.
