Deep Conversation-- Question Chosen in Session
Welcome to our weekly event in the upstairs room of The Sister Café, rue Chair et Pain 3, one block from the Grand Place. Please get there early enough to order your drink at the bar first. Thank you!
After introductions we will collect questions from the group participants, choose one by voting then discuss it for an hour. Then most of us stay for drinks and bizarre conversations.
Past questions have been wide and not confined to academic philosophy:
What is a genuine friend?
Is social media turning us into emotional zombies?
Do we lose some of the experience of things by defining them?
Are we driven by sex?
Is loneliness a personal failure?
Is morality relative?
**Crucially, be kind and respectful and generous** in your disagreements; remember how much you personally enjoy someone else proving you wrong before celebrating your cutting counterexamples.

Queer Reads Collective: Camila Sosa Villada's "Bad Girls"
Hey lovely people,
Join us for another gathering of the **Queer Reads Collective**. This session will focus on literature from South America, with **Camila Sosa Villada's "Bad Girls"** (sometimes translated as "The Queens of Sarmiento Park").
This novel follows a young trans woman in Cordoba, Argentina, who finds belonging among a fierce, complicated community of trans sex workers who gather in Sarmiento Park. It moves between magical and brutal realism, with moments of tenderness and joy, showing both the violence they face and the deep love and chosen family they build. It’s raw, funny at times, and intense.

🏰 Waterloo Battlefield & Museum Visit
**Where European history changed forever**
Join us for a fascinating visit to the **Waterloo Battlefield and Museum**, one of the most famous historical sites in Europe.
In **1815**, the defeat of Napoleon at the **Battle of Waterloo** ended his rule and reshaped the political balance of the continent. This moment marked the end of an era in which France dominated European politics and diplomacy.
Over the following century, global influence gradually shifted toward the English-speaking world through the rise of the **United Kingdom** and later the **United States**. Because of this, Waterloo is often seen as one of the turning points that helped shape the modern international order.
Today, the battlefield is a fascinating place to understand how one single day can change the course of history.
Whether you know a lot about European history or are discovering it for the first time, this visit is a great way to connect with the past.

Bozar - Beauty and Ugliness in the Renaissance
## Beauty and Ugliness in the Renaissance
Beauty and ugliness have always fascinated people, yet their meanings shift over time. *Bellezza e Bruttezza* explores how artists from Italy and Northern Europe in the 15th and 16th centuries depicted these extremes, from refined ideals to deliberate grotesques. A rare opportunity to see extraordinary works, some appearing in Belgium for the first and only time.
The exhibition traces how the standards of beauty and ugliness evolved from the last quarter of the 15th century to the end of the 16th century—key transitional periods—by juxtaposing in a rich and compelling confrontation the ways in which these two subjects were interpreted by the greatest Italian artists and their counterparts from Northern Europe. Beauty became an increasingly important social concern at this time, as shown by the rising number of 16th-century publications offering “recipes for looking beautiful” and advice on cosmetics and care. Meanwhile, ugliness also grew in prominence in art, appearing in a widening range of forms throughout the same period.
Discover remarkable works by renowned artists such as **Botticelli**, **Titian**, **Tintoretto**, **Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo,** **Cranach the Elder**, **Massys**, and many others.

**Featuring Guest Speaker:** Amanda Holbrook (Specialized Trust Company)
**Hosted by:** Columbus Investors Club
### **Event Description**
Most people think retirement accounts are passive.

Dinner & a Movie: PROJECT HAIL MARY at Marcus Pickerington!
Join us as we get together to see Ryan Gosling and Sandra Huller in the highly anticipated sci-fi adventure, PROJECT HAIL MARY! The film is based on the best-selling novel of The Martian and follows a man who awakens on a spacecraft before realizing his mission to save Earth. Here’s a description, trailer and plan for this event:
DESCRIPTION: A science teacher wakes up on a spaceship, light years from home with no recollection of who he is or how he got there. As his memory returns, he begins to uncover his mission to save the Earth. The film is directed by the filmmaking due Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (21 and 22 Jump Street, Into and Across the Spider-Verse) and is based on the 2021 novel by Andy Weir (The Martian). The film stars Ryan Gosling, Sandra Huller (Anatomy of a Fall, The Zone of Interest), Lionel Boyce, Milana Vayntrub and Ken Leung.
TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VYsnngkS_U
BUZZ AND REVIEWS: The buzz and reviews for PROJECT HAIL MARY are off-the-charts good! The film is earning a 95% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, where critics call it an “old school blockbuster crowd-pleaser” and “a new sci-fi classic!” It’s “deeply hopeful,” well-acted,” funny,” “dramatic,” and “exceptionally rousing throughout!” Others call it “something truly magical” and one that “we’ll be talking about this one for decades to come!” And I believe Slashfilm says it best: “It will lift up and squeeze your heart, crack you up with laughter, and give you a sense of hope and wonder in a way that few movies have been able to inspire.”
MOVIE PLAN: Please purchase your ticket for the 2:30pm SuperScreen DLX showing and meet in the lobby area between 2:05 and 2:15pm!
