Improv Skill Builders w/ TBC Spain - A series of 4 elective classes
Most TBC Improv courses are 8-weeks, *this one is **different***!
For those who want to expand their skills in a certain area, you can dip in where you feel necessary. Each class is a standalone theme so you can take 1, 2, 3, or 4 - and of course, we think they're *all* equally important!Together in this series we will explore the skills of improv at a deeper level. We'll look at specific applications and play with differing concepts, to strengthen your improv tool belt.
This is a supportive and fun environment where you can relax into silliness! Each class will include games and exercises to get us feeling loose and inspire fun, and then dive us into the topic of the day. You will be on your feet, active, trying and playing - laughs are guaranteed!
### **Class Topics:**
### **About the *Genres: Building Worlds Through Style* workshop**
Step into new worlds and play with the rules that define them. This workshop explores how genre shapes tone, relationships, and storytelling—from film noir to rom-com, fantasy to realism. Learn to recognise and heighten stylistic conventions, switch effortlessly between genres, and let style spark fresh discoveries. Whether you love grounded scenes or big theatrical worlds, you’ll expand your range and have a blast doing it. We'll look at key tropes and ideas then exlpore a few of the crowd favourite genres!
### **About the *Environment as Scene Partner* workshop**
Your setting isn’t just background—it’s a character waiting to be discovered. In this workshop, you’ll learn to bring invisible worlds to life through physicality, object work, and shared imagination. Explore how environment can shape mood, emotion, and relationship dynamics, and how treating space as your scene partner can unlock depth, clarity, and playfulness in every moment.
### **About the *Flow & Tempo* workshop**
Keep your scenes alive, balanced, and dynamic. This workshop dives into the rhythm of improv—when to slow down, when to build energy, and how to sense the natural flow of a scene. Through energising exercises and mindful play, you’ll explore pace, timing, and responsiveness. Find the sweet spot between calm confidence and lively momentum, and discover how great scenes breathe.
### **About the *Game of the Scene – an Overview & Intro* workshop**
Find what’s fun and play it hard. This workshop introduces the concept of “game of the scene”—spotting the unusual thing, heightening it, and building comedic clarity together. You’ll explore patterns, point of view, and playful escalation without getting stuck in your head. Whether you’ve heard the term before or are totally new to it, you’ll leave with practical tools to make your scenes clearer, funnier, and more collaborative.
**Our TBC Course Structure Explained:**

Other - **Electives** (varying levels)
Then the 01, 02, 03 etc. defines the ***type*** of class.1**01** **Intro** to Improv \(building blocks\) \|1**02** Intro to **Shortform** \|1**03** Intro to **Longform**
This class series is in our Electives series, and will be taking you through various core topics of improv. You can then use these skills to advance in short or longform formats.

Sesión Formativa: Contact Impro desde Chi Kung, Tai Chi y Taoísmo
(English below)

### **Why attend?**
• To improve the quality of how we move and relate in everyday life.
• To enhance our mobility, structure, and physical integrity.
• To cultivate an open, relaxed, and available state of presence—one that supports decision-making based on the personal confidence that comes from feeling grounded and able to set boundaries at any moment.
• To relate more comfortably and safely to the changing and unpredictable nature of the world, both in daily life and in Contact Improvisation spaces.
***
### **Objectives**
1. To expand our resources for practicing Contact Improvisation through the study of disciplines and philosophies that strengthen our physical, mental, and emotional capacities.
2. To learn exercises and concepts that will be useful for our personal practice day-to-day, improving our quality of life in how we move, think, and relate.
***
### **Structure**
The full cycle is designed to guide us from an inner and subtle place toward empowerment, inner strength, and integrity. After that, the process invites us to soften so we can find our own personal, intuitive, and safe way of moving, dancing, and opening to encounter.
***
### **Inquiry / Intention**
The intention is to relate with increasing authenticity, care, and creativity—with ourselves, with the environment that holds us, and with others.
***
### **Why this combination?**
Contact Improvisation requires a deep and specific state of presence and bodily availability—completely aligned with the principles and concepts embodied in Chi Kung, Tai Chi Chuan, and Taoism.
The proposal is to approach and inhabit the practice of Contact Improvisation through this noble trinity:
**Chi Kung**
Offers sensitive, profound energetic work that expands our awareness, sensitivity, and listening.
**Tai Chi Chuan**
An internal style of traditional Kung Fu based on Taoist philosophy. It invites us to develop a dynamic root in continuous connection with the earth; an integrated yet mobile and sensitive structure; and a constant sense of inner creative power, organizing movement from the center and intention.
**Taoism**
An ancient natural Chinese philosophy inspired by the natural course of the world—ever-changing and harmonious—seeking the simplest way to flow and continue, without struggle, adapting, nourishing, and caring.
Images such as the humility, openness, and adaptability of water; the flexibility, integrity, and expansive regeneration of plants; and the importance of emptiness, space, and silence are central teachings in this philosophy.
Taoism also invites us to develop trust in ourselves as part of something larger—to trust in “not knowing” and “non-action” from presence, listening, and wisdom.
The tools and qualities we will develop through detailed practice of these three disciplines are extremely valuable for inhabiting safe, mindful, and creative dances within Contact Improvisation—and equally valuable in daily life.
***
**Don’t miss this opportunity to renew and empower the way you move and relate to yourself, the world, and others.**
***

Columbus Comedy Improv Meetup at Gresso's!
Whether you've never done improv before, or you've done it for so long you knew Del Close on a personal level, or anywhere in between, come join us! Swing by *Gresso's* for the **Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup** for some fun and games!
The idea behind improv is to create entire scenes from scratch based on a suggestion from the audience. This can be done in game form, like *Whose Line Is It Anyway*, *ComedySportz*, or *Wild 'n Out*; it could also be done to tell stories, like *Middleditch and Schwartz*. Our meetup, which is central Ohio's longest running (and free!) weekly comedy event, brings the games (and occasionally different forms) for you to play in a safe, supportive, and compassionate environment. Not only is it a lot of fun, but you get to work on thinking faster on your feet, plus it's an excellent way to meet new people and make friendships that'll last a lifetime!
Ask yourself if you want to join the **Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup**, and say "Yes, And" that you'll have fun!

Drunken Philosophy: Is Life a Dream?
Welcome to Drunken Philosophy, a casual, curious, social discussion club.
Optional topic for this meet up: Is life a dream?
Dreams feel real while they last. Could life work the same way? How do we know we’re awake, and what follows if we can’t be sure?
Let’s kick that around over a around of drinks:
• What makes something feel real: continuity, shared evidence, or meaning?
• How would you tell you’re awake (reality checks, memory, other people)?
• If life is dreamlike, what becomes of free will and responsibility?
• Is identity a story we keep telling—who’s the narrator?
• Are we author, actor, or audience in our dreams and how would you tell?
• Does art/film reveal reality or replace it?
No lectures. Friendly crowd. Drop in for one drink and stay if it’s fun.
