IndyPy: Python Meets Microcontrollers
The January edition of IndyPy explores how Python extends beyond traditional software development into the world of embedded systems and microcontrollers. Discover how MicroPython brings the simplicity and power of Python to tiny, resource-constrained devices, opening up new possibilities for IoT, robotics, and hardware prototyping.
Whether you're curious about embedded development or looking to expand your Python skills into physical computing, this talk will show you how accessible hardware programming can be when you bring Python to the edge.
**Join us either in person or remotely for our hybrid event!**
* **IN PERSON:** Suite 110 at E-gineering, Inc. (8415 Allison Pointe Blvd, Indianapolis, IN 46250)
* **REMOTE:** [Register to get the Zoom link](https://sixfeetup.zoom.us/meeting/register/CnmV2RcETcmsH7oEYWAGzg).
**AGENDA**
**7 - 7:15pm:** Announcements and Introductions
**7:15 - 7:45pm:** **“MicroPython: Bringing Python to the Edge with Microcontrollers” by Drew Westrick, Glassboard CTO and Co-Founder**
You love Python, now let's put it to work on tiny, cost-optimized, dedicated computers! MicroPython is a lean and efficient implementation of the Python 3 language that runs directly on microcontrollers (MCUs) like the popular Raspberry Pi Pico. If you've ever been intimidated by embedded development and ASM/C/C++, MicroPython lets you leverage your existing Python skills for IoT, robotics, vision systems, and creative hardware projects. In this 30-minute talk, Drew Westrick will introduce the core concepts, highlight the powerful benefits, and provide a live demo showing just how easy it is to control hardware using Python code.
**7:45 - 8:15pm:** Q&A and Discussion
**8:15 - 8:30pm:** Door Prizes
**8:30 - 9pm:** Networking
Guests are welcome to attend, but please have each person RSVP on their own Meetup account.
Fun & easy way to play more tennis (read event description)
We’re still working to get more people into these Meetups, but our goal is to give PlayYourCourt members a few social tennis outings each week in addition to your practice sessions and Challenge League matches.
These Meetups are co-ed, super laid back, and all skill levels are welcome. Post your skill level and a suggested court in the comments section so we can round up as many players as we can for some tennis fun!
Also, if you’re looking to meet new practice partners or play some matches and you aren’t already in the PlayYourCourt Community, you can go here to see what we’re all about and sign up:
https://www.playyourcourt.com/tennis-community/columbus-oh/meetup/
If you love tennis, we’d love to have you! Be sure and watch the quick video that explains how everything works.
Happy hitting!
- Scott
