Keeping the Hive Alive & RTE exhaustion
*\*\*\* Last-minute change due to a speaker falling ill. Niko has kindly stepped in. See updated description below. \*\*\**
Two exciting topics, two very experienced speakers and much networking opportunity. We are very much looking forward to the next DevOps Meetup Zurich.
Here's what's planned for the evening:
17:30 - 18:00 - Arrival and first drinks
18:00 - 18:45 - RTE exhaustion: Common traps, real-life experiences and what other roles can learn from them by Nikolaos Kaintantzis
18:45 - 19:30 - Keeping the Hive Alive: Metrics, Midnight Snacks, and 3 Years of Resilience by Adhi Sutandi
19:30 - 20:30 - Networking, Open Space & More drinks
**RTE exhaustion: Common traps, real-life experiences and what other roles can learn from them**
Preamble: While the focus is on the RTE role, the underlying patterns are transferable to other roles such as Scrum Masters, Product Managers or agile leaders – and can help organizations reflect on more sustainable ways of working.
As an RTE, have you ever wondered why you are the first to start working in the morning and still have work left at the end of the day?
RTEs often take on a wide range of responsibilities and are expected to create alignment, flow and continuous improvement across the ART. Working long hours can easily become the norm.
Spoiler alert: it does not have to be that way.
In this talk, the RTE role is used as a concrete example to explore common patterns that lead to exhaustion in agile environments. Based on six real-life situations, I show typical traps and how different people addressed them.
**Nikolaos Kaintantzis**
Nikolaos Kaintantzis works as a trainer, consultant and coach in agile projects. He is also a professional systemic coach and works with leaders.
Through many years of experience in the conception and development of complex software solutions involving multiple teams, he gained early exposure to challenges in large-scale agile environments.
In his recent work, he increasingly focuses on AI-native ways of working and their implications for roles, collaboration and leadership in agile environments.
Nikolaos Kaintantzis is a SAFe Fellow.
**Keeping the Hive Alive: Metrics, Midnight Snacks, and 3 Years of Resilience**
In the modern era of SRE, reliability is no longer a bonus—it is often a core feature of the product. End-user experience is paramount, but at what cost? How do our promises of "four/five nines" impact the "heroes in the background"—the poor engineers waking up at 3:00 AM?
Reflecting on my experience co-leading the on-call process and being one of the on-call engineers at Beekeeper for three years, I will share how we shifted from individual heroism to organizational resilience. We will explore how to build a culture where reliability doesn't come at the expense of mental health.
In this session, we will cover:
* The Human Factor: Why people and habits matter more than tools.
* The Framework: Implementing basic Incident Management and meaningful SLOs.
* The Culture: Transforming runbooks and post-mortems into tools for learning, not blame.
**Adhi Sutandi**
With 8 years of experience in DevOps, I describe myself as a true DevOps generalist and an advocate for GitOps and Infrastructure as Code. I love diving into all areas of the stack, from fleet provisioning and secrets management to Observability and K8s. I’m also a big believer in the power of Open Source. When I’m not on-call or optimizing CI/CD pipelines, I am an avid half-marathon runner, a badminton player, and a board game enthusiast.

Ink & Drink — Creative Poetry Lab
_Imagine an evening where ordinary words begin to breathe, stretch, and gently unfold into poetic stories…_
That’s the adventure you’re invited to at our first **Ink & Drink**! ✍️🥂
* Join us for **a cozy evening of writing together over a drink, in a beautiful, book-filled setting**.
For this first session, the theme will be poetry: an invitation to play with words, rhythm, images, and voice in your own way.
* This is an open and relaxed writing lab where the energy of the group encourages everyone to write and explore their own imagination. You’re welcome to follow optional prompts, or work freely on your own text — whatever feels right to you. At the end, participants are welcome to share their work (optional).
* Paper, pens, and practical guides on poetry and creative writing will be provided.
We’ll meet at the B2 Boutique Hotel, surrounded by 33,000 books, including many in English, which you’re welcome to browse and use for inspiration during the evening.
* For those who wish, you’re warmly invited to stay afterward for dinner — a lovely way to continue conversations and gently grow a creative community together.
(In the coming months, future sessions will also explore other creative activities alongside writing, occasional spoken word events, and informal cultural cafés.)
📍 Location: B2 Boutique Hotel

**Building Is Easy with AI. How Do You Solve Distribution?**
The new reality: Building digital products is largely solved. The real challenge today is reaching and convincing people.
The core question If people (not AI) buy products, how do teams actually reach them today - and where does AI help or not help in that process?
• Stage 1: Being online (website & presence) Why most businesses still need a website and a clear online presence. Where AI can speed things up, and where human direction is essential (vision, positioning, understanding the audience).
• Stage 2: Platforms & distribution channels Overview of major platforms (social, content, newsletters). Where AI-assisted content can work, and where it currently harms trust or results.
• Stage 3: Advertising (briefly)
• Stage 4: Alternatives & non-digital channels When traditional or less obvious channels (media, partnerships, offline touchpoints) still make sense.
**Conclusion AI as a multiplier, not a decision-maker.** What teams can realistically do in-house with limited resources, and where human thinking remains critical.

Azure CBUS February: Build Your Own MCP Server
### Tools in your AI's Toolbox : An introduction to MCP Servers
The generative AI revolution has unlocked unprecedented capabilities, but the next frontier is agency: empowering models to interact with, query, and act upon the world. The current challenge is the “N x M integration problem,” where every AI model requires a custom, brittle integration for each external tool or data source. This approach simply doesn’t scale. How can we give an AI access to our sales leads, code repositories, or IoT devices in a standardized, secure, and reusable way?
This session introduces Anthropic’s Model Context Protocol (MCP), the open-source framework designed to solve this challenge and become the universal connector—the USB-C port—for AI. MCP standardizes how AI models discover and use external tools, moving beyond simple function-calling to a robust, client-server architecture. We will dive into how this open protocol is creating a new ecosystem for building powerful, context-aware AI agents.
Join this session for a developer-focused introduction where you will learn how to:
Understand the core concepts of the open-source Model Context Protocol and its architecture.
Utilize pre-built, open-source MCP servers to instantly connect AI to tools like Git, Slack, and databases.
Build a custom MCP server to securely expose your own proprietary data and APIs as tools for any compliant AI.
Move beyond bespoke integrations and contribute to a standardized, collaborative, and open ecosystem.
Stop building one-off connectors and start building intelligent agents. This session will give you the practical knowledge to leverage MCP and create the next generation of AI that doesn’t just talk, but does.

CBusData - Ok I Want to Get Data into Fabric - Now What?
I love my job and one of the main things I do is help customers get going with any of the data technologies at Microsoft. Right now there are a lot of my customers asking about Microsoft Fabric. It's hard to weave across all the shiny new options across the Fabric landscape, let alone figure out where it fits into your organization. In this session we'll focus on answering one question - how can I get data into Fabric? We'll talk through the "it depends" options and see some of the options in live demos.
Data & Analytics Wednesday - Compensation Data
**People Analytics 101: Making Sense of Compensation Data**
Compensation data is one of the most widely used and widely misunderstood forms of people analytics.
The session will cover where compensation data comes from, including market pricing data, internal payroll data, and benchmarking sources, and how companies think about structuring and analyzing that information. We will explore how compensation data is leveraged to set salary ranges, manage internal equity, support hiring and retention, and align pay with business strategy. A portion of the session will address common data challenges and limitations, such as market noise, inconsistent job matching, and incomplete datasets, while keeping the primary focus on practical use rather than technical depth.
The session will also look ahead at where the space is going, including the growing impact of pay transparency laws, expanding pay equity requirements, and emerging regulations in the US and Europe that require organizations to report on gender and pay gaps. The goal is to give attendees a clear mental model for how compensation analytics works today and why getting it right is becoming increasingly critical.
(note: we are back at Rev1 this month!)
