We've never read Eudora Welty here, so we're going to discuss her best-known work, the Pulitzer Prize-winning "The Optimist's Daughter." This short novel, which began as a story in the New Yorker, is about a woman who travels to New Orleans to take care of her father after surgery. I've been meaning to read Welty for years, so I'm happy we're doing this now.

Hello! To kick off spring (when it gets here), we'll meet up for dinner at Shaw's Tavern. A bunch of us went here when Bella DePaulo came for her book talk a couple of years ago. They have some nice low-key, reasonably priced options: https://www.shawstavern.com/ - I reserved some space on the covered outdoor patio. Hopefully, the weather is springy! Street parking is free on weekends, but difficult to find. Alternatively, it's an eight-minute walk from the Shaw-Howard U stop on the Yellow/Green Line. A couple of disclaimers: this is not a "meet market." Many of us desire to become DINKs at some point, while others do not; let's not assume the former for anyone. In the spirit of the overall group, this is inclusive in that regard. But please just come with the intent to have fun and connect with other CFs, not to hook up or partner up. If it happens naturally, awesome. But please don't have that goal in mind. You can bring a guest provided they're single and childfree. If something comes up and you can't make it, please switch your RSVP to "no" by Friday, 3/20 at 5 p.m. That said, if you've repeatedly signed up and then switched your RSVP to "no," I reserve the right to move you to the waitlist if we have enough people wanting to go. Reservations are limited to eight people; if anybody wants to make their own reservation so we can have more, let me know, and I'll increase the size.

**Feminists unite**! *Join us for the very first meeting of ClubFeminist.* This inaugural gathering will be an opportunity for founding members (you!) to meet, get to know one another, and begin an open conversation about feminism, gender expectations, and what equality means in our lives today. This first event will focus on creating a welcoming space for thoughtful dialogue. We’ll introduce the vision for ClubFeminist, hear from attendees about what topics matter most to them, and discuss the kinds of conversations and events we’d like to build together. **Some questions we may explore:** • What does feminism mean to you? • What challenges do women still face today? • How can men be better allies in advancing equality? • What kinds of conversations or activities would you like this group to host? This is a **founding meeting**, so your voice will help shape the direction of the group moving forward. I started this group because I was surprised a space like this didn’t already exist locally. Conversations about equality feel more important than ever, and this group is meant to be a place where they can happen openly and thoughtfully. If this is something that gets you fired up or you’re someone who believes in respectful conversation and equal rights for women and men you are very welcome. Hope to see you all there!
