**Talks:**
Lukas Zainzinger (willhaben)
***willhaben’s Journey to AWS MSK – A retrospective on Security, Costs, and Reality***
Migrating to managed services is rarely a plug-and-play experience. In this talk, we walk through Willhaben’s transition to Managed Kafka on AWS (MSK), sharing the authentic story of our integration rather than a textbook tutorial.
We will dive into the specific hurdles we faced, focusing on how we engineered solutions for strict security and access control requirements. Additionally, we’ll discuss the financial aspect—specifically the pricing issues we encountered and the adjustments we made to solve them. This isn't a lecture on the "one right way" to do things, but a transparent look at the decisions, challenges, and learnings we gathered along our own journey.
*Bio:*
Lukas joined willhaben as a Platform SRE in 2024, following a career path that transitioned from Application Management to specialized DevOps roles at Raiffeisen Informatik, Shöpping and Siemens. Throughout his journey, he has developed a deep expertise in Kubernetes, Terraform and multiple Cloud Providers, always with an eye toward improving developer experience and system reliability. Currently a Master’s student at Hochschule Burgenland, Lukas bridges the gap between academic cloud research and real-world infrastructure challenges. He is particularly passionate about leveraging cloud-native and managed services to build robust, fault-tolerant infrastructure.
David Hondl (Dynatrace)
***Monster-Sized Gitops; How to scale Argo CD***
Argo CD is one of the most popular and widely spread GitOps tools for Kubernetes and part of the backbone of many internal developer platforms.
Also Argo CD can undoubtedly be a beast - and a huge one at that, as anyone scaling it for a production environment has probably seen in one way or another. But what if simply having a massive installation is not enough for us? What if we want to go even bigger from here, raise it to beyond what we thought feasible? Create more Applications, more ApplicationSets and render more resources at the same time?
These are the questions that we will tackle in this talk.
We are going to take a look at the different Argo CD components, from the frontend to the K8s controllers and how they behave at scale. We will examine how far they can bend and especially when and how they will break. Based on what we find, we are going to figure out how to tweak these parts in just the right way.
And in the end we will hopefully be able to turn Argo CD into a bigger monster than it ever was.
*Bio:*
I'm a Cloud Engineer at Dynatrace and I'm super passionate about all things Platform Engineering and the cloud-native community. I use (and build) platforms to create better developer experiences and love to share my knowledge as a speaker as well as actively organize meetups around the topic.

🖼 Eröffnung "United by Queerness" @ QWIEN
For English scroll down
English:
Since 1956, the Eurovision Song Contest has been much more than just a music competition. As a transnational media event, it reflects European moods, political divisions and pop culture developments as well as national self-promotion. For many in the LGBTQIA+ community, the ESC is also a central place for queer visibility – and thus a space for belonging, representation and negotiation.
The exhibition ‘United by Queerness’ is dedicated to these tensions between diversity and nationalism, inclusion and exclusion. It follows a three-part spatial concept – from the living room to the arena to the stage – and shows how the ESC is experienced, celebrated and politically interpreted. Qwien thus makes the queer dimensions of the ESC visible and reflects on it as a pop-cultural phenomenon that continues to spark debate to this day.

How Real Is Reality? Going Beyond the Five Senses
**The Mysteries of Non-Duality, Spirituality, and Metaphysics**
**Only 5% of the universe is composed of normal matter,** yet we often dedicate 100% of our focus and attention to it. This creates an **illusion of separateness** where we believe we are alone and that when our material body dies, that's the end.
We even term this physical substance "matter" because we believe it's all that truly matters.
In contrast, **95% of our universe consists of energies and a mysterious void** that actually governs our universe, bodies, experiences, and lives. This non-material universe is also known as the **spiritual universe**. As we delve into this spiritual dimension, we start to see how all things are interconnected.
**Imagine the ocean and two waves approaching the shore**. One exclaims, "My God, we're going to crash at the shore, we're going to die!" The other responds, "No! You cannot die. You are part of the ocean!"
Like the waves, we simultaneously are individuals and part of a greater whole. Yet, most of us are (no longer) aware of this. Opening up, moving beyond our wave-like limitations, and recognizing our unity with the ocean can change everything. It makes life much easier, more enjoyable, and fulfilling.
**Agenda:**
* Introduction to Non-Duality, Spirituality, and Metaphysics: We will watch videos covering different aspects and explanations of reality, non-duality, etc.
* Sharing of questions and thoughts.
* Conclusions and how to apply this understanding to your life (if you wish).
**You are invited to join** a somewhat mystical workshop exploring the timeless wisdom of the universe. We'll dive into spirituality, non-duality, metaphysics, and the interconnectedness of all things to uncover deeper personal fulfillment and an understanding of life. Whether you're new to these topics or a seasoned practitioner, this event is the perfect opportunity to explore, learn, and grow. Come with an open mind and leave feeling inspired and more connected to a community passionate about these intriguing subjects.
No matter where you are on your spiritual journey, this event can offer surprising and important insights about yourself that you may have never considered before.
**Important:**
We don't have to agree on everything. This isn't about proving someone wrong, but rather about learning from each other, providing mutual inspiration, hearing different perspectives, and evolving to live a life we love.
**Sign Up Now.**
**Deepen Your Understanding of the New Consciousness:** Intuition is replacing intellect as our primary decision-making guide. This new consciousness transcends the limitations of the five senses. It is beyond the five senses.
**See What Is Possible.**

PS: A contribution of € 15,- for room rent, coffee/tea, and cookies will be collected.

This meetup is organized by DotNetDevs.at (https://dotnetdevs.at/) together with the Softwarearchitektur Wien Meetup (https://www.meetup.com/softwarearchitektur-wien/).
**Abstract**
In this talk, Patrick Säuerl (Tech Lead/Architect) and Tim Paulus (Developer) will share their journey of evolving a software project towards a modular monolith with consistent layering.
The system started over 10 years ago as a monolith, and many teams have developed within it, adding their flavors and understanding of the architectural patterns and the architecture trends at that time.
This has led to maintenance issues and unclear guidance for new developers.
We tackled parts of this by introducing tests that ensure the layering of vertical slices is consistent.
Our solution is based on the following approaches:
\* Fitness Functions from Evolutionary Architecture
\* Ports & Adapters and Layered Architecture
\* Approval Testing
\* Architecture Tests
We will cover these topics and the ideas we borrowed from them.
The talk will also focus on the dynamics that these tests initiated within the team and another contributing team, leading to fruitful discussions, better shared understanding of the technical vision, and clear refactoring targets for developers.
**About Tim Paulus:**
As a developer, Tim faces the typical challenge of inheriting a software project with proven business value in its domain, yet needing to transform its architecture to meet new technical and organizational requirements.
**About Patrick Säuerl:**
Patrick is an experienced software architect and technical lead who has supported numerous teams and developers on their journey.
With several years of experience in various projects, he has shifted his focus to technical leadership, team collaboration, and Domain-Driven Design (DDD).
He places particular emphasis on collaborative modeling, with preferred methods including Specification by Example, User Story Mapping, Event Storming, and Event Modeling.
Patrick promotes both intra-team collaboration and cross-team collaboration in scaled environments.
Location, Food & Drinks are sponsored by TechTalk.

Transforming Heartache - Opening to Healthy Love
Transforming Heartache — Opening to Healthy Love
Breakups, divorce, ghosting, betrayal, and unrequited love cut deeply.
They don’t just hurt emotionally — they shake your foundation, your sense of self, and your ability to trust and love again.
Most people try to distract themselves, numb the pain, or “get over it.”
But heartbreak isn’t something you simply get over.
It’s something you move through.
Digest.
Transform.
Heartbreak brings old wounds to the surface — abandonment, invisibility, unworthiness, longing, attachment trauma. It exposes the emotional residue many of us have been carrying for years, sometimes decades.
When these wounds aren’t processed, people often find themselves:
• stuck in obsessive thinking about someone they can’t let go of
• cycling through the same painful relationship patterns
• drawn to unavailable or inconsistent partners
• feeling anxious, destabilized, or emotionally overwhelmed
• struggling with loneliness, shame, or self-doubt
• confusing intensity with intimacy
• feeling disconnected from themselves and their bodies
This Meetup is a space for people who want something deeper than surface-level advice.
Here, you’ll learn how to work with heartbreak at the levels where it actually lives — in the body, the nervous system, and the emotional core.
Through guided practices and practical insights drawn from decades of experience in meditation, somatic healing, and attachment work, you will learn how to:
• calm emotional overwhelm
• metabolize grief and emotional pain
• dissolve fixation and looping thoughts
• reconnect with your body and inner stability
• unwind unhealthy relational patterns
• rebuild your emotional foundation from the inside out
As you heal, something important happens.
You become more grounded.
More clear.
More emotionally steady.
And from that place, you naturally become more receptive to healthy, reciprocal love — the kind rooted in presence, mutual care, and real compatibility.
This group is for those who are ready to do meaningful inner work.
Not quick fixes.
Not denial.
Not endless venting without direction.
If your heart is hurting, you are welcome here.
If you’re ready to transform your pain into growth, you are welcome here.
If you want to stop repeating the same patterns and build a healthier emotional foundation, you are welcome here.
Your heartbreak is not the end of love.
It can be the beginning of a deeper transformation.
