The Heart of Connection: Why We Love
The Heart of Connection: Why We Love
**Summary:** Before we can build meaningful relationships with others, we must first understand the relationship we have with ourselves. This focused discussion explores one fundamental question that shapes every partnership we form: "**Why do people want to find a partner?**" Your answer to this question reveals more than just your relationship goals—it uncovers the deepest layers of your expectations, fears, and hopes about connection itself. *"Love does not consist in gazing at each other, but in looking outward together in the same direction." — Antoine de Saint-Exupéry* Have you ever paused to ask yourself why you're looking for a partner? This isn't about how to find someone or what makes a good relationship. This is about understanding the fundamental drivers behind our search for partnership. The answer to this question often determines how enduring our relationships will be, and how enriching they can be for both people. Here're some of the things we may explore in this special focused discussion: 🔹 Are we seeking completion or companionship? 🔹 Do we want a partner to fill a void, or to share an already full life? 🔹 How do our answers shape the quality and longevity of our relationships? 🔹 What happens when two people's "whys" don't align? This conversation requires honest self-reflection more than relationship experience. Whether you're single, dating, or in a long-term partnership, exploring this question can bring profound clarity to all your connections. Come with an open mind and a sharing heart. Leave with fresh insights about what you truly seek in connection. 👋 Inviting all who are... 💭 Questioning their own motivations in relationships 🤔 Curious about the psychology behind partnership ❤️ Seeking more authentic connections with others 🌱 Ready for honest self-reflection about their relationship patterns ✨ Open to understanding how their "why" shapes their relationship outcomes 🗓️ Agenda / What You'll Experience (in No Particular Order) 💬 Focused Discussion on "The Why" Our diverse group will come together to exchange ideas. We will tackle a few core question chosen by our facilitator or collectively, such as: "Why do people want to find a partner?" Each participant is encouraged to contribute. From there, we’ll embark on a respectful, engaging, and meaningful conversation, celebrating the diversity of perspectives within the group. 💬 Additional Reflection We may explore related questions, further encouraging personal reflection and small-group sharing. Here are some sample questions. * When you were growing up, what did the couples around you seem to enjoy most about being together? * When you picture a great partnership, what’s something it adds to your life that you don't usually experience solo? * Complete this sentence: "A partner would make my life better by..." Note: This session may involve virtual question cards accessed via a link or QR code. If you do not have a device (phone/tablet) to access these, please ask a facilitator for assistance. 💬 Final Thoughts and Feedback Where time allows, before the end of the event, we’ll take a moment to reflect on the key insights, memorable moments, and takeaways from our discussions. 💡 Why This Question Matters This question emerged from our previous discussions on love and relationships as the most revealing inquiry we can make about partnership. Understanding our true motivations helps us build relationships that are not just satisfying, but truly transformative for everyone involved. ✨ What is Curious Souls Café? Visit Seven Sister Temple 七聖古廟 on Ma On Shan 馬鞍山
Visit Seven Sister Temple 七聖古廟 on Ma On Shan 馬鞍山
Seven Saints Temple 七聖古廟 on Ma On Shan 馬鞍山. Chat Shing Temple sits on the very edge of what used to be rural Shatin. Now the temple resides along the gentrifying Sai Sha Road with developments just outside of the Wu Kai Sha New Town. Either way, this temple is one of the few temples dedicated to the Seven Sisters, who are often portrayed as benevolent protectors of local rural women who often suffered from the dangers of a hard rural life. Although small, these figurines are among the most rustic and beautiful statues I've seen in Hong Kong, lending this out-of-the-way location a peaceful aura. Well worth the trek! We'll gather at the Wu Kai Sha Bus Terminal and take the KMB bus 99 to the stop near Che Ha Village. The Hong Kong Sacred Spaces Society sponsors this trip and is free to all. Image from Wikicommons.

Humanist Program: Fighting the Efforts to Insert Religion into Public Education
The Humanist Monthly Program is our longest running event and still a community favorite. In the old days it used to be called "Going to HCCO" and we still like to think of it as our flagship event. Food and drinks will be provided at the event. Feel free to show up a little bit early to hang out and talk. Our March speakers are Molly Gaines and Zack Parrish, co-organizers of the Secular Education Association: They will share their story of how a small group of Ohio parents grew into a national organization tracking released-time religious instruction and other church–state issues in public schools. The presentation will cover SEA’s early wins and hard lessons, what we’re seeing nationally right now, and how local advocates can play a meaningful role in protecting public education. Attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of the landscape — and practical ways to get involved. Going forward our meetings will be hybrid. COUNT monthly event: Kitchen service at Van Buren Center's shelter
COUNT monthly event: Kitchen service at Van Buren Center's shelter
Come assist Van Buren Shelter (https://ymcacolumbus.org/locations/vanburen) staff in serving dinners and cleaning up on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. Dinner for the women is 5-6 pm and for the families is 6:15-7:15 pm. There is ample free parking available in the shelter's lot. The recommended area to park is in green in the image above. There will be a new entrance for the time being. We are asking all volunteers to enter through the Donation Dock door, the orange mark on the image above. This door is located between the Single Adults and Family Shelter. You will see 2 large garage doors with a large green trash compactor in the center. Please head to the closest garage door to the building wall, with a ramp leading up. There, you will see a door with a sign stating instructions on how to enter the building. Please ring the doorbell, and a staff member will come and escort you into the building. If a staff member takes longer than 5 minutes, please call the front desk at 614-689-2020. This is a new process for us, and we do not want to keep you waiting! We appreciate your patience as we navigate this temporary change. The shelter needs a volunteer count the day before the event so sign-up ends Monday at 4:50 PM. Afterwards some of us go to the Omnipresent Atheists Weekly Meetup in progress to have a bit to eat or drink (http://www.meetup.com/omnipresentatheists/). Volunteers must be 14 or older. Since we will be working around families, the YMCA does not permit volunteering by individuals with convictions for violent or sexual crimes. The YMCA reserves the right to run background checks on volunteers. For questions, comment on this page or contact: Andrew, awhit12@yahoo.com, (614)937-5802 (cell). Please let Andrew know if you volunteer anytime other than our COUNT events so that he can count your hours toward our service record.
