ZH3 Hash # 1710: Spring of Fire//Johnny Cash Birthday Hash
Hare (someone to set the route) is NewBalls.
This Thursday evening (not Sunday morning) we're Coming Down to Bucheggplatz to celebrate Johnny Cash's birthday - hash style. Channel your inner Man in Black with your best cowboy boots (or sneakers) and black outfits. We'll run on for a long (not so long, \~6k true trail) time and then go down, down, down with our fellow fools drinkin' whiskey(?)/wine/beer/etc. Bonus points if you're a man named Sue. All ramblers and gamblers and back biters (no weird stuff) welcome to come run/walk, drink, and socialize!
**Where**:
See location. Typically within Zurich Zone 10. Look for English speakers wearing running gear.
**When:**
We'll meet at 6:50 pm to start at 7:00 pm.
There's a charge of CHF 5 for participating, which covers all you can drink beer/cider (and non-alcoholic alternatives) plus snacks afterwards.
**All Welcome:**
If you are new, curious, and want to get out of the house, stretch your legs, talk shit, enjoy a drink, and hopefully a laugh, then here's what you need to know:
⢠We are a social running/walking group, physical fitness is not required, but a sense of humour is useful.
⢠The aim is to find the '*Beer Stop*' at the end of the '*trail*' and have fun.
⢠'True Trail' is typically 4-7 km. Some will go less (especially those walking or walk/running), and some over-achieving fast runners will go further.
⢠The '*Hare*', which changes each event (along with location), cleverly lays the trail (typically with flour marks) so that everyone reaches the end at the same time.
⢠There is always a place to deposit your bag and sometimes a place to change.
⢠**After Trail**, we group for \~20-40 minutes for drinks, snacks, and some fun. This '*Circle*' is typically outside, so leave something warm in your bag in winter (and bring a flashlight when it's dark). If you don't want to stand around drinking afterwards, you can head home. We occasionally all go to a restaurant afterwards.
**Why bother leaving your warm & dry sofa?**
If you enjoy getting outside, being around people, and doing something a bit different, you will probably enjoy hashing. Exercise is important, and this is probably the least boring way to get it.
'Hashing' and the idea of some physical activity to work up a thirst, have been around for almost 90 years and there are groups (*Hashes*) in most major cities. Its humor and 'traditions' can be explored on the internet - **or you can just come along and find out.** *See you there.*
We are of many nationalities, all ages, full of misfits and idiots (at least there is no one taking themselves seriously!) and always welcome newbies 'Virgin Hashers' and visitors from other groups.

Conversational AI Design: A Practical Field Guide
**About the talk**
Conversational assistants arenât âjust another featureâ. They are full experiences shaped by countless design decisions that must hold up in real life: messy inputs, high expectations, edge cases, and the constant tension between speed, quality, and cost.
In this talk, Gea and Alberto share what theyâve learned while designing AI-enabled assistants in different contexts (from support to retail-like journeys). Instead of focusing on hype or theory, theyâll unpack the practical choices that make the difference: how to keep conversations actionable, how to design a consistent âvoiceâ without overdoing personality, how to define (or intentionally limit) the assistantâs identity, and how the interface and the underlying logic need to evolve together.
Theyâll also touch the less glamorous, but most decisive parts of the work: when AI is the right tool (and when it isnât), why data is the elephant in the room, what âtestingâ means in conversational design, and how to guide users so the assistant is easy to understand and hard to misuse without overwhelming them.
Expect a set of clear takeaways you can reuse with your own team, whether youâre starting from scratch or improving something already in production, shared through real design trade-offs, not spoilers.
**About the speakers**

ZurichJS Meetup: All down to the types
A single broken type can ripple through your entire stack, turning a seamless deployment into a debugging nightmare. But when your types are watertight, the magic happens: code that documents itself, databases that talk to forms, and modularity without the risk.
This February, weâre stripping away the guesswork and looking at the architecture that keeps modern web apps unbreakable.
Whether youâre looking to harden your infrastructure or automate your validation logic, join us for an evening of deep-dive demos and technical insights that go way beyond the documentation.

Spec-Driven Development with GitHub Spec-Kit - Barret Blake
**Important time note:** Please plan on arriving between 5:30 and 6:00 as the elevators lock after 6 and you'll need to message us and we'll need to come get you.
The building address is 4450 Bridge Park
The entrance is 6620 Mooney St, Suite 400
You will need to scan your ID at the door to get a visitor badge.
**Abstract**
*Spec-Driven Development with GitHub Spec-Kit: From Intent to Implementation*
Spec-driven development flips the traditional workflow on its head: instead of code being the source of truth, the specification becomes the backbone of design, collaboration, and delivery. In this session, weâll explore how GitHub Spec-Kit enables teams to treat specifications as first-class artifactsâliving documents that drive architecture, implementation, and verification.
Youâll learn how Spec-Kit helps teams clearly express intent using structured, version-controlled specs that live alongside code. Weâll walk through a practical workflow that starts with defining system behavior and constraints, then progressively refines those specs into testable, automatable outcomes. Along the way, weâll show how specs can reduce ambiguity, improve cross-functional collaboration, and make design decisions explicit before a single line of production code is written.
This talk will cover:
--What spec-driven development is (and what it isnât)
--How GitHub Spec-Kit fits into modern developer workflows
--Using specs to align product, engineering, and AI-assisted development
--Real-world examples of turning specs into implementations with confidence
Whether youâre building greenfield systems, integrating AI into your stack, or trying to reduce costly rework, spec-driven development offers a scalable way to move faster without sacrificing clarity. Attendees will leave with concrete patterns and a clear mental model for adopting GitHub Spec-Kit in their own projects.

Data & Analytics Wednesday - Google Analytics Alternatives
**Google Analytics Alternatives**
Is it finally time to make the switch away from Google Analytics? Two-and-a-half years ago Jason Packer asked this question at Columbus Web Analytics Wednesday.
Since then: Googleâs Universal Analytics has been sunset, weâve changed our name to Columbus Data & Analytics Wednesday, and Jason has released two editions of his book âGoogle Analytics Alternativesâ.
Fresh off the release of the 2nd edition of his book, we thought it was time to re-open this conversation. While people love to complain about it, GAâs market share has remained relatively constant (at least in the United States). Why is that? You wonât find any complaints about GA4 in this talk, but rather an overview of whatâs currently available in the market and how to frame your decision-making process.
Weâll also be giving out some free copies of Jasonâs book! So even if youâve got a âGA4Lyfeâ tattoo (no judgement), thereâs free books to go with the free pizza and beer.
