SOLD OUT • TEiP SPECIAL SERIES: LIVING WITH TECH • E1: THE WAY WE THNK
A special series of events to open different conversations about AI, tech, and their impact on our lives.
This first episode is sold out. Here's the next one: [E2: THE WAY WE CONNECT](https://www.meetup.com/thought-experiments-in-pubs/events/314228138)
(Substack about our rationale for this event series [here](https://open.substack.com/pub/experimentsingroupwisdom/p/bored-of-having-the-same-conversation?r=445zi1&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true) 😊)
**[WHATSAPP GROUP](https://chat.whatsapp.com/DapwAXpnOHO5DRYThobpe4)** \- stay in the loop
**[INSTAGRAM](https://www.instagram.com/thoughtexperimentsinpubs/)** \- see what we look like \(including The People of TEiP project\)
**[SUBSTACK](https://experimentsingroupwisdom.substack.com/)** \- sign up for the newsletter
We’ll use the typical THOUGHT EXPERIMENTS IN PUBS (TEiP) method of getting into great conversations: small group discussions, tiny imaginary stories, lots of questions, and many opportunities to shuffle groups (more detail below).
**The thought experiments for these events are written by special guest writer and TEiP regular, Francesca.** She’s in the middle of a fellowship at Newspeak House (London College of Political Technology) and has her finger on the pulse of many issues related to technology and its impact on our lives.
As Francesca alludes to in one of her thought experiments: **discussing concepts and ideas with other people (rather than asking ChatGPT) is like going to the gym for your mind.** But as anyone who has been to a TEiP event will know, TEiP’s lighthearted and playful atmosphere means that it’s more like a fun zumba workout than crossfit or weightlifting.
**How we'll do it** (timings approximate):
* 7:00pm - Arrive at Newspeak House. Nearest station Shoreditch High Street.
* Organise ourselves into small groups (3-4).
* Have a look at the thought experiments (announced on the day of the event)
* 7:15 - Introduction to the event
* 7:20 - First rotation begins - Talk about the first thought experiment, but feel free to veer off topic and pursue new avenues of conversation.
* 7:45 - Optional reshuffle: swap groups, move on to the second thought experiment.
* 8:15 - Optional reshuffle: swap groups, move on to the third thought experiment.
* 8:45pm - Wrap up - votes to discern general views of the room; info about upcoming events; feedback/requests for future meetups.
* 9:00 Meetup ‘ends’. But feel free to carry on conversations. We have the room until 10 :-)
**Notes on the general atmosphere:**
* The vibe is to let conversation flow rather than stick strictly to one topic.
* While we'd like to talk about 'meaningful things', we also see the value in lighter topics, so don't worry about not being 'deep' enough!
* Feel free to suggest ideas for future THOUGHT EXPERIMENTS IN PUBS meetup groups, both in terms of structure and topics to discuss.
**Where we'll meet:**
This group will be at NEWSPEAK HOUSE. The nearest Overground Station is Shoreditch High Street. Nearby Tube stations: Bethnal Green, Whitechapel, Old Street, and Liverpool Street. You can access the venue step-free on the ground floor. Bathrooms are available at the venue.
**Please note: There is no bar at the venue, but you are very welcome to bring your own drinks.**
**Who should come:**
Everyone! We believe that the more perspectives, the richer the conversation. This group is not about being experts in Philosophy, it is about doing philosophy. That is, bringing our various life experiences and lenses on the world to group discussions about the human experience, the nature of reality... etc....
**If having different conversations about technology, AI and their impact on our lives sounds good, or intriguing, to you, please join us :-)**
If you would like to further support me & these meetups, please [subscribe to the newsletter](https://experimentsingroupwisdom.substack.com/), [follow the instagram](https://www.instagram.com/thoughtexperimentsinpubs), and if you want to go above and beyond, you can [buy me a coffee](https://buymeacoffee.com/bonnyastor) ;-)
Thank you!

AI Meetup #1 - Builders Foundry London
For people who build software. **We focus on AI, design, engineering, cloud, and startups without the hype.**
No vendor pitches or buzzwords. Just real architectures, production lessons, and honest trade-offs. For engineers, architects, platform teams, and technical founders.
Join us for two practical talks and a roundtable & pizza.🍕
**🤖 1. Using GenAI to Re-Imagine City Development**
[Damian Bemben](https://www.linkedin.com/in/bemben/) \- Senior Software Engineer @ AdaMode
"Urban redevelopment is constrained by cost and slow iteration. This session explores using GenAI and image-to-3D to generate and test concepts in seconds, giving more people a voice in planning. Covers practical model integration and where these tools actually deliver value beyond “AI slop"
**🤖 2. Deploying Deep Learning in Real Healthcare Constraints**
[David Agbolade](https://www.linkedin.com/in/dagbolade/) \- Senior Data Scientist\, \| AI Researcher \| SheerFit Founder
"A system for automated radiology reports, built for environments with 1 radiologist per 1 million people. The model worked in the lab. Deployment exposed the real problems: data scarcity, bias, low budgets, and lack of trust.
Real trade-offs: shipping a prototype over a “proper” app, choosing speed over marginal accuracy, and training on imperfect data because perfect data never arrives.
**🤖 3. Round table**
[Tom Winstanley](https://www.linkedin.com/in/tomwinstanley/) \- CTO and Head of New Ventures in UK&I
Open discussion on shipping AI systems under real world constraints.
Questions. Trade offs. What we would do differently.
Algorithmic Surveillance and Data-driven Enforcement
Regulators are increasingly turning to sophisticated data analysis to catch financial wrongdoing. From insider trading to market manipulation, agencies like the FCA and SEC are now building cases around one controversial line of reasoning: that certain patterns of trades simply couldn't have happened by chance.
Join our small, informal RegTech Meetup for a deep dive into the world of data-driven enforcement. While the mood takes us, we'll chat about how regulators are using algorithmic surveillance and statistical modelling to detect suspicious behaviour. Afterwards we'll just chat.
Whether you're working in compliance, financial services, law or data science—or simply fascinated by where technology and justice collide—this session is for you. The topic should give us all plenty to discuss and think about.
Please come ready with questions, comments and suggestions.
Notes:

Tech Startups in the Pub, Shoreditch - Relaxed Networking
🍻 **Join Us for Tech Startups in the Pub!** 🍻
Hey there! 🌟
We'd love for you to join us for our next edition of *Tech Startups in the Pub*. It's a relaxed evening at The Windmill, our go-to spot for tech chats and good vibes. We have been running for 3.5 years, and it's always a joy to see familiar faces and meet new folks.
Whether you're a regular, a tech founder, an enthusiast, a budding entrepreneur, or simply curious about the tech scene, you'll fit right in. This isn't about panels or pitching, just good old-fashioned networking with like-minded people over a drink (and maybe some pizza) on a Friday evening.
📍 **Where:** The Windmill, 27 Tabernacle St, Shoreditch, London EC2A 4DE
🕕 **When:** From 6 PM on the 3rd Friday of every month!
**House Rules:**
* Find Oliver, Pedro, Rob, or the other Rob (or anyone in a burgundy T-shirt) to introduce yourself so we can welcome you properly. The pub isn't reserved exclusively for us, so we don't want you mingling with someone's birthday party by mistake!
* No hard selling or heavy pitching. This is a chill, friendly after-work get-together.
* Not drinking? No worries! You're more than welcome to come hang out and enjoy the conversation.
Mark your calendar and come down for some fun tech talk. See you there!

Prompt vs. Paintbrush
AI is changing how art is made. But when does it stop being your work and start being the machine’s?
This month we're going to be doing a panel with with digital image, music, and written word artists, talking about at what point, while using AI in the creation process, does the work become not the artist creation?
We encourage audience participation during this event that will be moderated by Chris Slee.
Whether you’re deep in the field or just getting curious, come connect with others building and exploring AI in Columbus.
