DubJUG 264: GONG & Agentic AI Tools
This month, we're venturing over to GONG HQ to her two talks from staffers SDE Vanja Tesin, and Senior Engineering Manager Anthony Brady.
DETAILS & OFFICIAL BOOKING >>>>>
https://ti.to/dublin-java-user-group/264-gong-hq
Check your schedule first (it's not cool to not show!)
## **Talk 1:** GONG & Agentic AI Tools
Gong built an agentic AI solution called Claude Code to help developers work more effectively across its complex microservice architecture of over 100+ repositories. Using a multi-agent system with specialised rules, skills, and subagents, it automates development tasks and reduces time spent on research and context switching. The result is faster development and better pattern compliance, reducing complex tasks from days to hours. Join Vanja Tesin to discover how.
## **Talk 1:** **Resilience in Microservices**
In the distributed landscape of modern backend architecture, the question isn’t if a service will fail, but when.
Without robust fault tolerance, a single latent dependency can trigger a cascading failure across an entire ecosystem.
Anthony's talk will focus on how Gong overcame some of those challenges and how they are implementing resilience utilising patterns such as Circuit Breakers, Rate Limiters and others to maintain stability and provide graceful degradation even when downstream services are under duress.

Snowflake Startup Program Showcase: Building the Future of Enterprise AI
How do you scale an AI startup from an initial idea to an enterprise-grade solution? Hear from the Snowflake Startup Program team and a cohort of founders who are leveraging Snowflake to transform complex data into intelligent, scalable products
**Snowflake for Startups Program**
**Ryan Lieber**
Ryan Lieber will introduce the Snowflake for Startups Program, which provides several initiatives (e.g.,Startup Package, Startup Program & Cortex REST API) focused on supporting early-stage companies from a financial, technical and co-marketing perspective as they look to build their businesses on top of the Snowflake AI Data Cloud.
Learn how the program supports startups with technical enablement, go-to-market guidance, and direct access to Snowflake’s ecosystem to help scale innovative AI and data-driven products.
**From Program to Agentic AI: Building Enterprise Context**
**Ekai**
How do startups move from the Snowflake Startup Program to delivering high-impact AI solutions for major industries?
In this session, the leadership team at Ekai will share their journey of building enterprise AI products powered by Snowflake. They will explore how they tackle one of the biggest challenges in AI: Enterprise Context.
You’ll learn how Ekai developed an AI Backbone that transforms fragmented enterprise data into intelligent, agentic AI systems, along with the technical and commercial strategy required to scale across industries such as manufacturing and media.
**Unlocking the 80%: Turning Unstructured Data into Governed AI Intelligence**
**EmergeGen**
Enterprise AI doesn’t fail because of the models. It fails because 80% of critical enterprise data - including contracts, PDFs, and emails - remains unstructured, ungoverned, and inaccessible to decision-making systems.
In this session, EmergeGen, a Snowflake Native App, will demonstrate how organisations can unlock this hidden intelligence. Using ontology-based reasoning, EmergeGen converts messy unstructured data into governed, analysis-ready intelligence without data leaving the Snowflake environment.
**Key Highlights**
* Native Integration - Build a governed intelligence layer directly inside the Snowflake Data Cloud
* Beyond the LLM - Use ontologies to make AI systems explainable and trustworthy
* Real-World Impact - Case studies from MSD Partners (Private Credit) and 101 Logistics
**Speakers**
Ryan Lieber - Snowflake Startup Program EMEA & AJP
Tero - Chief Commercial Officer, Ekai
Hussnain - AI Architect, Ekai
Allan Beechinor - EmergeGen
**Event Schedule**
📍 26 March
18:30 - Ryan Lieber, Snowflake - Introduction to the Snowflake Startup Program
18:45 - Ekai - From Program to Agentic AI
19:10 - EmergeGen - Unlocking the 80%: Unstructured Data to Governed AI
**Food & Drinks**
Food and drinks will be provided during the event.
Survival Analysis: From Basic Concepts to Bayesian Models
**Speaker:** Mick Cooney
Survival analysis is a statistical method for analyzing the expected duration of time until an event occurs. In this one-hour talk, we will walk through the application of survival analysis to life insurance policy lapses, starting from foundational concepts and moving toward Bayesian modeling approaches using Stan.
We will begin by setting the scene with a practical example: the impact of the 2008-2011 credit crisis on Irish life insurance. This provides a backdrop to introduce core survival analysis concepts, including censoring, truncation, survival functions, and hazard functions.
Next, we will review classic approaches to modeling survival data. We will cover the non-parametric Kaplan-Meier estimator, discuss standard parametric models, and examine semi-parametric methods like the Cox Proportional Hazards model.
The second half of the talk will focus on Bayesian survival analysis. Using R and Stan, we will demonstrate how to construct Bayesian models for time-to-event data. We will step through the process of assessing model fit and discuss strategies for improving model performance, focusing on handling right-censored data and quantifying uncertainty.
This session provides an overview for practitioners interested in applying both traditional and Bayesian survival analysis techniques to their own data problems.

There's no formal structure or agenda—just books and good conversation.💬
It's a perfect place to get book recommendations and rediscover your reading momentum if you've hit a slump. We welcome readers of all backgrounds and interests!

Let's try a Friday Night Fish Fry!
We thought of one of the interesting things that can be enjoyed at this time of the year. We will be meeting at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for a "Fish Fry" in Marian Hall on Friday, March 27th at 5:00 PM.
It might be fun for you to experience what has become a tradition on the Fridays before Easter. They will have fried fish or baked fish, French fries and Cole slaw, as well as beverages, all for $16.00 for adults. They will have other beverages and desserts available for sale, as well. We have never tried this, and sometimes there are quite a few people at these events so we hope that we will be able to find each other easily. I'll try to have signs outside Marian Hall that Identify our group. We hope to have you join us!
In-Person Event: The Answers to Depression & Anxiety
This is an in-person meeting. At this meeting you will get answers to depression and anxiety. Find out the source of them and how to get rid of them.
Did you know that unwanted emotions like anxiety, depression, unhappiness, loneliness, hopelessness, anger, fear, or feelings of irritation don’t just fall on you for no reason. They are not random occurrences that simply happen to people's minds. They are definitely not due to a chemical imbalance in your brain from some nebulous chemical reaction "by chance".
Your negative emotions are the symptoms of the painful experiences that you have which are not healed, and which are still affecting you.
The effects of these painful experiences are exacerbated by the pressures or difficulties of the other problems in your life.
Come to our Meetup, where we can introduce you to some of the knowledge, tools and techniques of the breakthroughs in the field of the mind that we can apply to this ever important area of life.
Be sure to click on the red "Attend" button below to come to this local event. We look forward to seeing you there.

Using Philosophy to Cope with Current Events
So this month's prompt is more general. I think we can all agree that we are living in "unique" times that require coping skills. I think that one role and/or purpose of philosophy is to help us deal with our daily lives and our "unique" times. So, let's share our feelings and thoughts about which philosopher/philosophy we turn to in order to deal with our crazy events. Who/what helps you stay focused in your daily life and helps you sleep at night. I find that Stoicism with a little philosophical pessimism mixed in goes a long way in helping me deal with what I see as very destructive, fearful and mean spirited public policies at both the state and federal levels. Hope to see you on March 28th!
Free In-Person Meeting: Healing from Trauma and Past Betrayals
This is a free, in person meeting.
Burdened by a stressful relationship? Unhealthy relationships can trigger feelings of anger, despair or self-doubt. They can create dwindling spirals of fights and seeking to make-up, or trying to “pin the blame” on someone or something. If you don’t find the RIGHT reasons, or select the correct sources of the problem, the problem can just get worse and worse.
Whether in love or personal ties, with friends or at work, our life really IS affected by the quality of our relationships. Good ones can promote pleasure and survival while less optimum ones can lead to annoyance, anger, self-doubt, stress, or even affect our health and ability to survive well.
Whether you are suffering from a divorce, or a painful break-up, don’t know who to trust (or who to CHOOSE) as a partner, friend, boss or employee - the anxiety of relationship troubles can really make a mess of things. Maybe you’ve suffered a betrayal, or are dealing with hostility or criticalness or invalidation. Dwindling relationships can involve destructive behavior, where we hurt those we love, or start succumbing to self-destructive thoughts, attitudes or behaviors that spiral out of control and affect much more than our immediate relationship.
Past losses in love or life can affect how we act or react to new people and situations and hold us back from even starting to create new, possibly great relationships! How can one get back onto a saner course of action?
Come to our Meetup, where we can introduce you to some of the knowledge, tools and techniques of the breakthroughs in the field of the mind that we can apply to this ever important area of life: human relationships!
Break free from self imposed limitations
Here we will discuss:
• How to “erase” the trauma of past hurts and betrayals so that one isn’t always repeating past mistakes.
• Why and how do the negative emotions of others affect you?
• Why is my partner withdrawing and what can I do about it?
• Why do we sometimes feel compelled to hurt the ones we love?
• Fights & arguments - what's really behind them?
• What underlies “corrosive criticism” or the need to invalidate self or others?
• How one can stably change one’s outlook on life so they can affect positive change?
• Where do compulsive destructive behaviors come from and what can be done about them?
• How to form closer bonds & keep growing the relationships with the people you care about?
• How to enhance one’s own ability to survive and create positive healthy relationships whether in love, family & friendships or in work, business or one’s career?
Relationships can be hard and life itself IS challenging. Why not arm yourself with the knowledge and breakthroughs that have been made about the mind, mental reactions & interpersonal relationships, so that one has better awareness and control over themselves and life in general.
Learn where painful experiences are “stored” and how they can unknowingly affect us. You will also find out how one can “erase” those past painful experiences so that one is free to move forward without being tripped up by the past. Learn too, about what can lead some people to become “toxic” personalities and how to identify those traits in others so you won’t be tripped up trusting the wrong person.
Our free Meet-ups occur in a safe environment where one can learn, without fear of judgment or criticism, and without the recommendation of harmful mental techniques or therapies, just how YOU can get yourself onto a happier & more successful path: in love & in life.
We look forward to having you join us!

Arthouse Friday: THE DRAMA at the Drexel Theatre!
Join us as we get together for an Arthouse Movie Friday event to see the A24 dark comedy /romance / psychological-thriller, THE DRAMA! The film stars Zendaya and Robert Pattinson as a happily engaged couple whose relationship is challenged when one discovers unsettling truths about the other. Here are details, a trailer and our plan for this event:
DESCRIPTION: The film follows a happily engaged couple whose relationship is put to the test when an unexpected turn sends their wedding week off the rails. The film comes from A24, is written/directed by Kristoffer Borgli stars Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Mamoudou Athie, Alana Haim, Hailey Gates and Zoë Winters.
QUICK WORD OF WARNING: The film hasn’t screened for critics yet and most of the details are being kept tightly under wraps. But, early buzz (possibly promotional) says the film is a brilliant psychological thriller/romance but also provocative, twisty and some contains occasional uncomfortable viewing! I love the cast and trailer, so look forward to seeing for ourselves!
ZENDAYA-PATTINSON TRIFECTA CHALLENGE: Robert Pattinson and Zendaya will star in THREE movies together this year, including THE DRAMA, Christopher Nolan’s THE ODYSSEY this Summer and Denis Villeneuve’s DUNE: PART THREE at Christmas!
