Circling Day
Connection: Our Deepest Desire and Greatest Fear
On the deepest level, just as a plant spontaneously moves towards the sun, there is a spontaneous movement in all of us toward aliveness and connection (Laurence Heller). And over the years I have found Circling a powerful practice to support this movement for myself and others. Building my capacity to be with both my desire for human connection and the fear that may arise. Such a deeply human dilemma.
We practice approaching our own experience and the experience of others with curiosity, becoming more aware of the subtleties of what is present. The emphasis is on staying in contact with your experience as it unfolds. The unfolding may be quiet and internal or it may lead to words – naming sensations, thoughts, emotions, impulses or perceptions. It might also include movement or other non-verbal expression. The idea is not to try to change what’s there, but to become more aware of what it is and how we are meeting it and relating to it in the moment.
Often awareness follows expression and this is okay too. We are all swimming in the ocean of the unknown. Occasionally the whale lifts its head above the surface and we catch a glimpse – a moment of seeing something about ourselves that we hadn’t noticed before.
I’d love you to join us for this Circling day and please contact me if you have any questions.

Facilitation and Terms of Service
This is a facilitated group practice but not group therapy and not psychotherapy. Because of my NARM background and own personal journey, I value personal choice, agency and emergent self-awareness. Participants are encouraged to stay connected to their own pace and to keep checking in with themselves throughout the practice – noticing what feels supportive, what feels like too much, and what they may need in any moment.
There’s no expectation to be vulnerable or to share anything that feels too personal or emotional and you are always welcome to speak, remain silent, pause, step back and take a break, leave or ask for what you want, including asking for support. Participants are also invited to respect one another’s pace and boundaries.
The intention of my Circling leadership is to support myself and people in staying present with their experience while in relationship with others, and to develop greater awareness of how they are meeting that experience. Having said that, like solo meditation, it’s normal that we will all repeatedly lose presence and Circling can sometimes evoke strong emotions or reactions in people which can be difficult for them and challenging for others in the space to navigate. If you find the prospect of this potentially destabilising or overwhelming, or if you are currently experiencing significant emotional distress or instability in your life that might be exacerbated by this type of group environment, or if you are unsure you’ll be able to take care of yourself and ensure the practice works for you, then please contact me before registering so we can discuss further.
By registering you acknowledge that you have read and agree to the above.

**WALK FAQS**
**Will there be photography?**
Yes. We will take photos and videos during the walk, including some flash. To be excluded, tell a team member before we start.
**Where might photos and videos from the walk appear?**
On our Instagram, website, emails, press coverage, and sometimes in partner or promotional material.
**What’s the vibe like?**
Relaxed, thoughtful and friendly. Slow-paced, welcoming, and a bit deeper than your usual social.
**What do people do after?**
We all go to a cafe and continue the conversations. This is also a great way to meet other groups or people you haven’t spoken to yet.
**Who will be hosting?**
Myself (Ben) and some some team members/volunteers.
**Do I have to have deep conversations?**
We encourage using the conversation cards. The point of this walk is to go a bit deeper than a normal social event. If that does not appeal to you, this event may not be for you.
**What topics will we be discussing?**
Relationships, purpose, personal growth, identity, values, life direction and more.
**[️](https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/1987289631785?aff=oddtdtcreator)[🎟️ Grab your ticket here ️ 🎟️](https://luma.com/3jyh6a2m)**
**Will it be very intense?**
The aim is meaningful conversation, honesty and depth, not forced vulnerability. You do not have to talk about anything you do not want to, such as trauma or things you may be working on in therapy. This is not a therapeutic space, though if you are comfortable discussing more difficult things, that will not be unwelcome.
**Do I have to walk slowly? How slow?**
The idea is to slow down and take in the greenery, scenery, conversation, and the people around you. Expect a normal to slightly slower-than-normal pace. City walking is usually fast. This will be slower than that, but not painfully slow.
**Do I need to come with someone?**
No. Lots of people come alone. The format makes it easy to talk to people.
**Is every walk in the same location?**
No. Each walk takes place in a different part of London, always chosen for its greenery, scenery and nature.
**How much walking is involved?**
Around 5km at an easy pace.
**What should I wear or bring with me?**
Wear comfortable shoes and clothes that suit the weather. Bring water.
**How often are the walks?**
Monthly.
**What happens if it rains or the forecast turns?**
The walk will usually still go ahead. If conditions are unsafe, I will email everyone with an update.
**Are there any behaviour rules?**
Yes. Be respectful and do not make the walk uncomfortable for others. Harassment or harmful behaviour is not acceptable.
**What should I do if there’s an issue on the day?**
Speak to me (Ben) during the walk or email me afterwards so I can look into it properly.
**[️🎟️ Grab your ticket here ️ 🎟️](https://luma.com/3jyh6a2m)**
**Please note:** Experiences and perspectives may be discussed, but this is not a therapeutic space and does not provide medical or psychological advice.

Hampstead Heath Spiritual Gathering & Walk
Our 44th Spiritual Creatives gathering - in person!
Come and join us for a lovely walk and talk around Hampstead Heath.
We are meeting just outside Hampstead Heath station (London Overground train) at 11.00 on Sunday the 31st of May.
Please note: This is NOT Hampstead Station on the Northern Line! It is the Hampstead HEATH station. The Google link is here:
We will wait for people to arrive until 11.15am and then we will begin walking. If you arrive later, you will only be able to catch up with us at Kenwood House approximately between 12 and 12.30pm. You should be able to find us sitting around as a group having a drink. If the weather permits, you'll find us outside the main café, towards the back. Look for the guy with the multicoloured scarf... that's me!
After a short break of 20-30 minutes, we then walk back through the Heath, taking the long way round to Parliament Hill, and conclude our stroll back to Hampstead Heath overground station around 2 to 2.30pm.
(Please note that you may become so involved in your conversations that you end up losing sight of the main group! Unfortunately, there is no way for you to catch up with us once we have become separated (and we do NOT check our phones for texts or messages during our walk) so please be mindful and conscious to stay with the main group if you want to keep up. Also please bear in mind that Hampstead Heath can be muddy sometimes, so please wear the appropriate shoes).
After returning to Hampstead Heath Overground station, many of our (usually hungry) members like to continue the camaraderie over lunch at one of the local cafés or restaurants. As our group has grown over the years, these gatherings can be quite large, so we usually have to split into smaller parties and explore different venues. Some of our favourite spots are Dominique’s Café (dominiquescafe.co.uk) and Silverberries (silverberry.net), both of which offer a welcoming atmosphere and delicious food. It’s a great way to wind down the walk and continue our conversations.
Spiritual Creatives is a warm-hearted and popular meetup group, as you can see from our ratings and comments!
We hope to meet you then! :-)
Best wishes
Cliff

Drunken Philosophy: Are you really who you think you are? What is the "self"?
I have been studying the question of "self" online with Prof. Ellie Anderson and so I thought a prompt on the "self" might be interesting. Full confession: I had Claude create this prompt and I like it, so here goes:
Imagine a thought experiment that merges two classic puzzles:
> You undergo a procedure, performed neuron by neuron, in which every biological component of your brain is replaced with a functionally identical synthetic substitute. At each step, your behavior, memories, and personality remain unchanged. When the last neuron is swapped, is the consciousness experiencing the world still you? And — more pressingly — was there ever a continuous "you" to begin with?
### Questions to Wrestle With
* If consciousness is purely physical, does the *gradual* nature of the replacement matter, or is it equivalent to being destroyed and rebuilt?
* Could there be a "self" without continuity of experience — even moment to moment, while you sleep?
On a more practical level, consider the simpler case first: **hemispherectomy** patients — people who have had an entire cerebral hemisphere surgically removed — often retain a strong sense of personal identity and continuity. This suggests "you" are not rigidly tied to specific physical material. But does that vindicate the synthetic neuron case, or merely show that identity is more *flexible* than we thought — not that it can survive *complete* substrate replacement?
I used Claude so I could get this out today and let everyone have some time to consider it. Hope to see you at the Oracle. Sorry about the location change two weeks ago. That's what I get for trusting local weather predictions!

Free In-person Meeting: Unwanted Emotions & Loneliness, How to Get Over Them
This is an in-person meeting.
Did you know that unwanted emotions like loneliness, sadness, hopelessness, anger, fear, anxiety, or feelings of irritation don’t just fall on you for no reason. They are not random occurrences that simply happen to people's minds. They are definitely not chemical imbalance in your brain due to some nebulous chemical reactions by chance.
Your negative emotions are the symptoms of the painful experiences that you have which are not healed, and which are still affecting you.
The effects of these painful experiences are exacerbated by the pressures or difficulties of the other problems in your life.
For instance, let's say you are already carrying a huge load on your back, then you cannot take on much more, but, let's say something else happens to you, such as the difficulties from the Pandemic, then the resultant combined weight on you can take you over the edge, kind of like the straw that break the camel's back. When this happens, people's attention usually goes to the straw that was added, but actually the majority of the weight had come from the huge load that were already there, holding a person down and causing a person issues.
So how do you remove the huge load that was already there? How do you lighten them up? Is it possible to get rid of them?
That is what this meeting will be all about.
Come to our Meetup, where we can introduce you to some of the knowledge, tools and techniques of the breakthroughs in the field of the mind that we can apply to this ever important area of life.
Be sure to click on the red "Attend" button below to come to this local event. We look forward to seeing you there.
This group is created by the Dianetics and Scientology Life Improvement Center of Central Ohio.
