We are a small group of Christians who offer free English classes to anyone wanting to practice, grow, and strengthen his or her English skills. We will meet at a free location each week to have the class, and we will use a workbook with conversation prompts from the books of Luke and Acts to aid our conversations. People of any background, nationality, gender, race, etc. are welcome! Since 1981, Let's Start Talking (LST) has created conversation workbooks for people around the world who are eager to improve their English. LST materials are unique because they are not designed for classroom use, but instead for individual conversations. We will be using this material to prompt our conversations. We believe that a friendly relationship and the exchange of personal insights contribute significantly to improving language skills. When we talk about ideas that are important to us, we try harder to communicate clearly, and we make a greater effort to understand what the other person is saying. A walk right the way around Fairlop Waters and also Aldborough Hall Nature Reserve. Our usual shortish walk for the Saturday before Christmas, so we can get to the pub a little earlier. We're meeting in the Fairlop Oak (NOT FAIRLOP WATERS) at 11am for a pre-walk coffee. I would suggest arriving a little earlier if you want to chill, chat, maybe breakfast We'll be finishing back there around mid-afternoon for some well deserved Christmas food and/or drink for those who do want to come into the pub. Picture the Grand Ball scenes like you’ve seen in period films such as “Pride and Prejudice”, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. That’s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like “swing your partner” and “do-si-do,” like you’ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alá “Riverdance.” Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THAT’s Contra Dancing! Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor.
