**Talk 1:** The TriMech Design Process: Turning Ideas Into Production Ready Products
**Talk description:**
This talk provides a high level walkthrough of [TriMech Design Solutions](https://design.trimech.com/)’ streamlined, end to end product development process. Formerly known as MAKO Design before its acquisition, the team now combines startup savvy industrial design with the broader engineering, simulation, and manufacturing capabilities of TriMech. Attendees will discover how this integrated ecosystem empowers inventors, startups, and small companies to move from early sketches to manufacturable products with greater speed, clarity, and affordability.
Magnus Skold and Tim Uys will guide the audience through each stage of the traditional design process, which includes research, concept development, refinement, CAD, engineering, prototyping, prototype refinement, and DFM. They will also illustrate how TriMech’s lean methodology keeps clients engaged and educated at every step. The session includes a visual breakdown of the workflow and highlights how disciplined creativity, engineering rigor, and manufacturability work together to bring ideas to life.

**Talk 2:** Jon Olsen -Thermoelectrics: Physics, Pitfalls, and Practical Design
**Talk description:**
Thermoelectric (Peltier) coolers are one of the most misunderstood technologies in electronics. Many engineers treat them like a tiny refrigerator or simply sandwich one between a chip and a heatsink. In reality, a thermoelectric module is no more a complete cooling solution than the compressor alone is an HVAC system. Used incorrectly, they can create thermal runaway, waste power, and make systems perform worse instead of better. This lightning talk will explain how thermoelectrics actually work and where they make sense in real systems. We will look at practical robotics and embedded applications such as stabilizing thermal camera sensors, managing burst heat loads in motors and batteries, and controlling temperature in sealed systems where compressors or refrigerants are not practical. The talk will focus on the system design approach required to make thermoelectrics succeed, including the thermal stack and heat rejection. I will also briefly introduce a thermoelectric evaluation kit we are developing to help engineers experiment with TEC systems and design them correctly. I am looking for about ten beta testers from the community who are interested in trying the hardware and providing feedback.
About **Jon Olsen:**
[Jon Olsen](https://www.linkedin.com/in/jonwwo/) is a product manager at Sheetak, an Austin-based company that designs and manufactures thermoelectric cooling and generation technology. His work focuses on developing practical thermal systems and evaluation platforms that help engineers integrate thermoelectrics into real products. Jon’s background combines entrepreneurship and engineering. He has spent much of his career building hardware products and bringing electromechanical systems to market, with experience spanning thermal systems, IoT devices, and manufacturing. He enjoys working at the intersection of physics, product design, and hands-on hardware development.

We will have several Arduino computers available to borrow and experiment with during the meeting, including the new [Arduino Uno Q](https://www.arduino.cc/product-uno-q).
Beginners and Experts are welcome to attend and participate!
A rough agenda for the meeting shall be:
\* **Workshop and Live Demo:** A short interactive hands-on introduction to Arduino. For online participants, we'll use [Tinkercad](https://www.tinkercad.com/). For in-person participants, we'll have a few Arduinos available to experiment with. Depending on the experience and interest of the participants, we might skip this introduction.
\* **Ask the Arduino Expert:** Get Arduino project help from the experts. Got a problem with a project you're working on, or need advice on getting started? Get in-person and online help to get you going! We'll go around the room and see what each person needs help with.
\* **Show-and-Tell:** Got an Arduino or other digital electronics project to share? Talk about it informally and share what you've learned! It can be as simple as a Blink project or as complex as an Edge AI application. You do not need to be an expert in the subject matter.
\* **Open Day:** Work on your projects during the meeting. You can listen, share, or get going on your projects, whatever you decide! Bring your soldering iron and tools.
\* **Build a Project Team**: Looking for project help on a longer-term basis? Share your project and find willing participants to help you finish it!

.If you have questions please feel free to submit them in the comments below or send them to me directly.
Zoom meeting details will be posted about a half hour before the meeting begins.
HABEX - High Altitude Balloon Experiments
The reference to experiments is two-fold. The first is in regard to the actual balloon construction and flight processes. The second is a reference to the payload and what it does during the flight (e.g. images, environmental measurements, etc.). To be clear, there will be two design processes going on in parallel, the balloon proper and the payload. This initial flight is really focusing on the balloon to get that process pinned down and clearly defined. The initial payload should be simple (e.g. digital camera taking pictures).
One of the primary design considerations will be the use of CanSat techniques in the design and construction process. We may need to build a technology demonstrator for this (i.e. dummy payload) before the actual flight process.
CanSat -- [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CanSat](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CanSat)
Design Process:
Design/Buy > Assemble > Test > Loop (Will it fly?) > Flight Plan
Meeting Sequence:
Pilot - Initial meeting (possibly two) to gauge interest and get first round of participants.
Design - Group responsible for the first four stages of the Design Process. - Multiple meetings.
Pre-Flight - Review process to date and verify readiness - Set the date of launch - Possibly two meetings
Launch - Two teams (Launch and Recovery)
Clean up - Launch team cleans up launch site and transitions to tracking and telemetry
Recovery - Recovery team (possibly several groups) chases the balloon and tries to stay ahead of it.
Post-Flight - Review, analysis, and release of flight report (including experimental results if any).
Flight Plan:
* Pre-Flight
* Schedule
* Assembly
* Launch
* Tracking
* Recovery
* Review/Release Results
Constraints:
* COVID 19
* Budget
* Resources/Tools/Facilities
* Legal (e.g. FAA rules about weight and number of modules)
* People
* Transportation

**Abstract**
Web Forms gave .NET developers a powerful abstraction for building reusable UI controls long before design systems were a thing. Web Components finally bring that same idea to the browser natively.
This session explores how the Web Forms mindset translates into Custom Elements, Shadow DOM, and HTML templates. We’ll examine how Web Components enable design systems that work across frameworks, how they differ from server‑driven controls, and why they’re becoming a foundational layer for modern UI. Whether you’re maintaining legacy apps or building greenfield projects, you’ll leave with a practical understanding of how to apply familiar patterns in a modern, standards‑based way.
