You never know who you are going meet in this evening and that is the beauty of it! You may find a friend forever, a party buddy, a partner in crime or a partner in life!

chatting about anything and everything, with those you like, for as long as you like
If you find somebody who you think you have a connection with, dare to

You are very welcome to attend alone or with friends. We will be there
making introductions, helping break the ice,, and act as a glue in the group.
We have a reserved area/table where we can mix and mingle, so that
everybody can relax and feel comfortable and we get to know each other. and then we are going to move on the dance floor!
Simmons Shoreditch is a quirky cocktail bar bringing an off-
kilter addition to the streets of the East. Just off Shoreditch High Street, this gem is notorious for a late-night party or 5. Its eclectic playlist and beautifully bonkers interiors set it apart from its peers.
Famed for its rogue aesthetic, it really has it all. We're not joking. Bringing a new meaning to 'Everything but the kitchen sink,' this bar even has that. Its DJ plays from a built-in Kitchen Disco. Spinning disks that span decades with a playlist that's sure to keep you on the dancefloor until the early hours. Blaring neons, skull disco balls and
waltzer-style booths all add to the charm!
The program of the night is as follows :
7:00pm-9pm : Singles mixing and mingling
9pm: The music goes up and it is time for dancing.
Everyone arriving before 9pm receives a token for a complimentary
drink ( you can choose between beer, prosecco or non alcoholic)
Happy Hour till 9pm!

**🌇 About the Hike**
Join us for London’s ultimate canal adventure — a full-day journey from Mile End in East London to Broxbourne in North London, following the Regent’s Canal and the River Lee Navigation through some of London’s most beautiful and historic waterways. 🌿🚶♂️
This hike is flat all the way (no steep hills!) and gives you the freedom to make it as easy or as challenging as you want:
✅ Easy Option: Enjoy 1–3 hours of canal-side walking and exit at any nearby station — there’s one roughly every 60 minutes along the route! 🚉

***
**🏙️ The Journey**
Your adventure begins at Mile End Station, where we join the Regent’s Canal — one of London’s most iconic waterways, built in the early 19th century (1820) during the city’s industrial revolution. Originally used to transport coal, timber, and goods, this canal is now a peaceful green corridor cutting through the heart of London 🌳.
**We’ll pass by:**
**Victoria Park** 🎠 – London’s oldest public park (opened 1845), once known as the “People’s Park,” beloved by East Enders for over a century.
**Hackney Wick** 🎨 – buzzing with street art, warehouses turned into creative spaces, and canal-side cafés.
**Tottenham Marshes & Lea Valley 🌾** – vast green spaces filled with wildlife, kingfishers, and swans gliding along the River Lee.
**Waltham Abbey & Broxbourne Woods** 🌲 – marking the final stretch of our tranquil journey as we reach the **Hertfordshire** countryside.
Each section tells a story of London’s transformation — from Victorian industry to modern urban nature reserve. The Regent’s Canal and Lee Navigation were vital arteries that powered the city’s trade, connecting East London’s docks to the River Thames and beyond 🚢.
***
**🍽️ Breaks & Food**
We’ll have:
🥤 Short breaks every hour or so
🍽️ A longer lunch break around 1 PM – bring a packed lunch and plenty of water (there are a few cafés along the way if you fancy a treat!)

✨ FREE HIKE 24k | Brighton festive hike via Jack and Jill windmills ✨
📈 **Grade: 🥾🥾 🥾🥾 Level 4/5**
Join us for a South Downs adventure from Hassocks to Brighton, complete with rolling hills, iconic windmills and a magical Christmas lights finale on the seafront.
We will journey along one of the most scenic and uplifting stretches of the South Downs Way, a route that is considered challenging thanks to its mileage, steady elevation changes and exposed ridgelines where wide skies and gusty winds add extra drama to the day.
With the Christmas season approaching, this walk offers a perfect blend of fresh winter air, open landscapes and a festive finish by the coast. Expect a few hills that will warm the legs nicely, plus the occasional gust that might steal your hat if you are not careful.
We begin with a bold climb out of Hassocks, which sits just below the famous Jack and Jill Windmills. Jill is a restored white post mill that originally stood in Brighton before being taken apart, hauled uphill by horses and oxen and rebuilt at Clayton. She still grinds flour on special open days. Jack stands beside her as a tall brick tower mill that is privately owned. Together they create an iconic landmark often seen on film and TV, and on a clear day they perfectly frame the sweeping views over the South Downs. The climb to reach them is the first leg tester of the day, but the views at the top tend to make everyone forget how much they were questioning their life choices five minutes earlier.
A little further along the ridge we reach Ditchling Beacon, one of the highest points on the South Downs. The climb is steady but rewarding, offering wide open views across the Sussex Weald and out toward the coast. It is a classic landmark on the South Downs Way and a perfect spot to catch your breath and take in the sweeping landscape.
From there the trail winds across classic chalk downland, past wind shaped hawthorn trees and wildflower grasslands, before dipping into the shady calm of Stanmer Park. This peaceful stretch through ancient woodland and the flint built village offers an ideal stop for a relaxed lunch.
After lunch we continue towards Brighton, briefly skirting the University of Sussex where pockets of modern architecture and student life contrast with the timeless rural landscape.
Soon after, the countryside opens up again as we turn toward the coast. Expect more rolling hills, the kind that look innocent from a distance but somehow grow taller as you approach. Nothing too dramatic, just enough to keep things interesting and remind you that snacks are important.
The final descent flows through open farmland and gentle hills until you reach Brighton Beach where chalk cliffs, rolling waves and the lively energy of the city greet you.
Once we reach the seafront we will stroll toward the pier, soaking up the Brighton Christmas lights, festive displays and seaside sparkle. With Christmas approaching and it being the last Saturday before the holiday, Brighton will be buzzing with life. The city comes alive with festive energy, colourful shop fronts and seasonal lights that give the pier and promenade an extra magical glow. After enjoying the atmosphere we will make our way back to the station, with the option to stop at a cosy pub for a cheerful pre Christmas drink before catching the train back to London.
🛑 Important: This hike is rated moderate to strenuous and is not suitable for beginners. Since we are close to the shortest day of the year, a head torch is essential.

Highbanks After Dark: Christmas Lights
**Summary**
I love hiking [Highbanks](https://www.metroparks.net/parks-and-trails/highbanks/) in the winter after the sun has gone down. Highbanks is never really dark -- there's too much ambient light from Lewis Center. But I love the trails at night. When I started hiking Highbanks, I was afraid of getting lost and particularly at night. But now that I know my way around, nighttime is one of my favorite times to hike there.
In addition, near the end of our hike, we will take a few minutes to walk around the Nature Center and look at the Christmas lights. (The Nature Center itself will be closed, however, by the time we get to it.)
We will meet next to the restrooms at the [Big Meadows Picnic Area](https://www.metroparks.net/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/HBK_Web_1980.png). They're all the way at the back of the park, and they can be found at coordinates [40°09'06.6"N 83°02'30.2"W](https://www.google.com/maps/place/40%C2%B009'06.6%22N+83%C2%B002'30.2%22W/@40.151828,-83.0423587,214m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m10!1m5!3m4!2zNDDCsDA5JzA4LjAiTiA4M8KwMDEnNDUuMSJX!8m2!3d40.1522222!4d-83.0291944!3m3!8m2!3d40.151827!4d-83.041715?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI0MTIwNC4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D) (near the playground and the zip line).
We'll hike about 5 miles on the Dripping Rock and Overlook Trails. Afterward, we'll head over to [Olentangy River Brewing](https://www.olentangybrew.com/) for drinks and [food](https://www.olentangybrew.com/eventsandfood). Last year, the weather wasn't too terrible, and the Brewery had their patio fire pits going and we were able to sit outside. The fire pits at night are kind of amazing.
The actual address of the brewery is [303 Green Meadows Dr S, Lewis Center, OH 43035](https://www.google.com/maps/place/303+Green+Meadows+Dr+S,+Lewis+Center,+OH+43035/@40.1551938,-83.0144045,17.25z/data=!4m6!3m5!1s0x8838f395cef06c97:0xe407de61b3e30069!8m2!3d40.1551765!4d-83.0124352!16s%2Fg%2F11c26jc7j9?entry=ttu). If you can't make the hike, we should be there by 7:45.
**How to find our starting point in Big Meadows**
If you are new to Highbanks, the Big Meadows picnic area is 1.5 miles into the park just after you turn into the park off of U.S. Route 23. That is, after you enter the park, drive a mile and a half into the park. You will come to a crosswalk with a yield sign in the middle of it (this is not to be confused with the first such crosswalk you come to just in front of the Nature Center, which you arrive at maybe a quarter of a mile into the park).
Just after this second crosswalk, make a left. Then make another almost immediate left into the parking lot on your left. There you will see the jungle gym and the kiddie zip line to your left. I will be just in front of the restrooms just a bit further down from the jungle gym and picnic shelter; the restroom building will also be on your left.
**Note on our starting time**
Highbanks closes at 8:00 this time of year, and they get kind of snarly about getting everyone out of the park by then. So please be on time for this hike. I want to allow two hours for the hike and be back at Big Meadows by 7:30. So we're shoving off at 5:30, with or without a quorum.
Sunday at Highbanks Metro Park
We will meet next to the restrooms at the [Big Meadows Picnic Area](https://www.metroparks.net/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/HBK_Web_1980.png). Join **Daclaud** at **The Arcane Foundry** for an evening that introduces newcomers and enthusiasts alike to the timeless craft of **tabletop wargaming** and **miniature painting**.
My own journey began with a fascination for fantasy — knights in armor, grim and hardened warriors, and monstrous creatures locked in epic battle. That passion led me to **Dungeons & Dragons**, where I painted my first **Basic Heroes set** and felt the spark that comes from bringing a character to life in miniature form. Not long after, I discovered **Warhammer Fantasy** and **Warhammer 40,000**, and I was hooked. The vision of vast armies clashing across the table — each unit meticulously painted, each story unfolding through dice and imagination — became my creative obsession.
During this event, we’ll explore the **origins of wargaming**, from its early military simulations to the richly detailed worlds of modern tabletop battle systems. You’ll learn how to **build and customize your own armies**, paint your first figures, and experience the joy of turning strategy and storytelling into a hands-on art form.
Whether you’re drawn by the lore, the hobby, or the thrill of commanding miniature legions, this introduction will open the gates to a world that has captivated hobbyists for generations.
**🎨 RSVP today and join us at The Arcane Foundry — where every brushstroke and battle tells a story.**
