Look for a small white telescope, weather permitting. **DISCUSSION QUESTION**: What did we learn from Artemis II voyage around the moon? **DISCUSSION ANSWER**: We learned a lot about the moon and its craters on the far side (not the dark side. There is no dark side, just the earth side and the other side. Each side is in sunlight half the time. I think.) We learned that meteors impact the surface of the moon every few minutes, creating impact flashes visible during darkness. There is no atmosphere to burn them up as on Earth. Most of what we learned came from taking photos, 10,000 of them. We learned that the most emotionally striking photo was "Earth-set” from an iPhone rather than from a much more expensive camera. We learned the Artemis II is an impressive spaceship. But possibly the most profound thing we learned was about the other spaceship - Earth I. There is no Earth II (sorry moon). There is no Planet B. We are all on a fragile blue marble hurtling through a big black dark lonely void of space, protected by an atmosphere as thin as the skin of an apple if Earth were shrunk to that size. How amazing that this little blue marble is covered with mountains and rivers and oceans teeming with all manner of life. From space the astronauts saw beautiful patterns of land, water and clouds, but didn’t see any national boundaries, nor feel any bombs nor hear any disputes created by solely by humans who sometimes forget they have everything they need to enjoy an incredibly rich existence with beauty, culture, knowledge and pickleball. Maybe we need to send everybody on a trip into deep space and anybody who still can’t appreciate the miracle of our place in the universe like those astronauts did, well just leave them there. Après avoir (beaucoup) pleuré avec *Changer l’eau des fleurs* de Valérie Perrin et été touchés par le personnage d’Eleanor dans *Eleanor Oliphant va très bien*, place à un tout autre registre avec le récit autobiographique ***La fille aux sept noms* de Hyeonseo Lee**. Je vous propose de nous retrouver autour d’un café **le samedi 2 mai 2026 à 15h** pour échanger sur nos ressentis de ce livre. En voici le résumé : « Quand on quitte la Corée du Nord, on ne quitte pas un pays mais plutôt une autre galaxie. Je sais que je n’en serai jamais vraiment libérée où que j’aille. » Hyeonseo a passé son enfance en Corée du Nord, piégée comme des millions d’autres par l’une des plus secrètes et brutales dictatures. Elle grandit dans la ville de Hyesan, près d’une rivière qui trace une frontière naturelle avec la Chine, un autre monde insaisissable. Au milieu des années 1990, la famine s’abat sur le pays. Chaque jour témoin de la répression et de la pauvreté, elle comprend que sa patrie ne peut être « le meilleur des mondes » qu’on lui vante depuis toujours. À 17 ans, au cœur de l’hiver, Hyeonseo décide de traverser la rivière gelée. Elle ne peut imaginer alors qu’elle ne reverra pas les siens avant longtemps. C’est un voyage sans retour. Facilitated by hearing folks (with a connection to a professional interpreter) using Deaf-created content. People of all ASL skill levels are welcome! The Forge does have a full bar and kitchen. There is no cover charge but they do request all attendees to purchase a minimum of ~20 per person. Soft drink refills are 1 each. Hosts and regulars will also provide numerous popular games but please bring any games you would like to teach and/or play. Doors open at 6, and we expect gaming to be rolling by around 630.
