Heraclitus states that “thinking is common to all”. However, this seemingly optimistic statement is soon qualified by his lament that people don’t understand, and therefore don’t recognise the importance of, his own philosophical message: they clearly don’t think well enough. The lights are on but no-one’s home, he seems to say. But is he really disappointed at the poor quality of common thought or because others don’t think like him? So, yes, we all think, but what is it that is really shared? What is common about common sense, if it exists at all? In my talk at Kant’s Cave I would like to explore with you the possible meanings, uses and value of the idea of “common sense”. We will discuss thinkers from Kant and Voltaire to Gadamer and Hannah Arendt. The Data Science Speakers Club is a Toastmasters International club enabling the current and next generation of Data Scientists to improve their Public Speaking Skills. This is a HYBRID Meeting! Our growing dance section is always open to new members, and beginners are always welcome – no previous experience is required. Our group of dancers and percussionists is a friendly family of people from all over the world who have come together to meet new people and share a love for music, dance, and expression. Joining our classes is not just an opportunity to learn something new, it's a chance to meet a new group of people who regularly organise social events and perform together at events across London and the UK. In this 4 week will teach dance choreography for Maracatu, with a focus on steps for the Orixa Oxossi and techniques for dancing whilst parading, in preparation for Notting Hill Carnival 2026. Beginners and experienced dancers welcome. You do not need to join us for our NHCarnival parade to attend this course. The classes are taught by Gladys who is from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She is a professional Brazilian, ballroom, and Latin dancer, teacher, choreographer and producer. She has performed all over Europe, Middle Eastern, Africa, and Asia, and has a wealth of experience teaching Brazilian and Latin dances for all ages and nationalities.
