Do you love games, meeting people, AND ensuring that people in the DMV have access to safe abortions? We have the event for you!
Please join DC Gaming Group and [DC Abortion Fund (DCAF)](https://dcabortionfund.org/) for **Play for Choice: Fun for the Fund.**
**When**: June 25th, 2026 - 7PM
**Cost**: $25 - pay at the door or pre-pay [via Eventbrite](https://www.eventbrite.com/e/play-for-choice-fun-for-the-fund-tickets-1991068808404?aff=oddtdtcreator). The ticket fee is your donation to DCAF!

DCAF will be providing some great raffle prizes - you won’t want to miss out!
Starter tokens will be provided, thanks to a generous donation from GameOn. You will need to purchase any additional tokens you may want after the starter set or elect to spend your Quest Log completions on more tokens.
Free Self-Defense Class – Maryland Systema (Takoma Park)
Have you been thinking about trying self-defense training, but do not want a loud, aggressive, or overly competitive environment?
This free intro class is a simple way to get started.
Maryland Systema offers practical self-defense training for adults in Takoma Park with a focus on movement, awareness, breathing, posture, and calm under pressure.
This class is designed for beginners and first-timers who want real-world self-defense training in a welcoming setting.
You do not need experience. You do not need to be in top shape. You do not need a martial arts background. You just need to show up ready to learn.
This is not a sport-based class built around winning points, memorizing routines, or trying to look impressive. It is a more practical approach to adult self-defense training that helps you stay balanced, aware, and functional when things feel uncertain.
If you have been searching for self-defense classes in Takoma Park, beginner self-defense near you, or practical self-defense training for adults, this class is a good place to start.

We're Playing Tag
We gonna play some tag. Bluemont Park in Arlington, Virginia is the tentative location mainly due to host familiarity and size. Feel free to suggest alternatives up until Thursday, June 25th, at which point the location will be locked. The type(s) of tag we'll be playing depends on the number of people that show up, but nothing will have rules that need to be prepared for in advance. There is no attendee limit, so bring friends (meetup caps it at 5, but that's a made up number)! If there are less then 3 people attending, the event will be rescheduled. I'll bring some snacks and refreshments, but feel free to bring your own too. The 4:30pm end time is not a hard end time, I simply have no idea how long would be adequate at the time of writing this. More regular times and dates will be fleshed out as the group continues to exist.
Ultimate Frisbee - All Levels
Just good ole Ultimate Frisbee. Tons of fun. Great group. No stacks. No pick calls (but no picks!!!). Fair warning to those totally new to ultimate: it's a lot of running.

*What to DEFINITELY bring*
1. Running shoes/Cleats
2. One white shirt *and* one dark shirt !!!! See this one !!!!
\-\-\- IMPORTANT you can play both dark and white so we can make teams when we get there; just pickup after all 😎
3. Water
*What you can ALSO bring*
4\. Snacks & Drinks
5\. Gloves \(winter\)
6\. Sunscreen \(summer\)
7\. Sunglasses 😎
House Rules -
1. Starting Play: Each point begins with both teams lining up on the front of opposite end zone lines. The defense throws ("pulls") the disc to the offense.
2. Scoring: Each time the offense catches a pass in the defense's end zone, the offense scores a point. The teams switch direction after every goal, and the next point begins with a new pull by the team that just scored.
3. Movement of the Disc: The disc may be advanced in any direction by completing a pass to a teammate. Players may not run with the disc. The person with the disc ("thrower") has ten seconds to throw the disc. The defender guarding the thrower ("marker") counts out the stall count.
4. Change of Possession: When a pass is not completed (e.g. out of bounds, drop, block, interception, stalled), the defense immediately takes possession of the disc and becomes the offense.
5. Substitutions: Players not in the game may replace players in the game after a score and during an injury timeout. (Modified depending on the number of the attendees)
6. Non-contact: Players must attempt to avoid physical contact during play. Picks and screens are also prohibited.
7. Fouls: When a player initiates contact that affects the play, a foul occurs. When a foul causes a player to lose possession, the play resumes as if the possession was retained. If the player that the foul was called against disagrees with the foul call, the play is redone.
8. Self-Officiating: Players are responsible for their own foul and line calls. The host will also step in if it is needed.
Please message the event host for any questions or concerns.

June Grand Gaming Melee
At long last, construction work at Arlington Central Library is complete, at least in the area that’s most important to AARGGH: the auditorium. The librarians are delighted to welcome us back for the first Grand Gaming Melee there in nearly three years. As in pre-construction days, we’ll have board games, card games, dice games, tile games, and just about every other kind of game that can be played on a tabletop. Bring games you want to play, or come without games and play what others bring. If you see a new one you want to try, there will be plenty of people eager to teach you.
Don’t forget snacks! You’ll need to replenish your energy during the day, so please bring something delicious to share. Cookies, crackers, and pretzels are popular options, as are sodas and juices. Some people bring doughnuts, cupcakes, or other substantial sweets; these are always appreciated and disappear quickly. Others may provide healthy treats of fruit and vegetables – we appreciate everything you bring to share!
**AN EXTREMELY IMPORTANT NOTE:** While the library welcomes us with open arms, it does not offer us an open refrigerator. Due to remodeling in the building, we no longer have access to a kitchen. **If you bring any drinks or foods that should remain chilled, you must bring a cooler for them.** Your host – as always – will bring a couple of coolers filled with freshly brewed iced tea and excellent store-bought lemonade. Undoubtedly there will be demand for more drinks than he can carry, so a few attendees should heed the call of the thirsty.
If you bring something else to drink, please provide cold storage for it. You may want to coordinate such an effort with your fellow players to supply maximum variety of beverages with a minimum of containers; feel free to post comments on this page for this purpose. Food and drink will be deployed on the stage at the front of the auditorium to separate it from the playing area.
Official start time is 10:30am, but you may arrive as early as 10:00am to help with setup. Cleanup begins around 4:00pm (or whenever you decide that you can’t squeeze in one more game before the end of the event). The librarians appreciate our vacating the auditorium by 4:30pm, and by “appreciate” they mean that our compliance determines whether we’ll be invited back for another Grand Gaming Melee.
Arlington Central cleanup instructions:
* Place all trash in the bins provided. Make sure that no scraps of paper, cardboard, or food remain on the floor.
* Leave the tables and chairs where you used them. The next group can deal with setup the same way we did.

RSVPs are required. The reason is that it should increase your own enjoyment. You see, the ideal number of players for a pickup soccer game is perhaps 6x6 - 8x8; some players won't attend if they think the turnout will be low, and others will just assume the game will be cancelled even though we always play. (As a practical matter, smaller games are less fun since the comics won't have the audience they need, but, they do have two hidden benefits: shorter, more intense games/workouts and fewer face kicks/yellow cards. So we play no matter how small or large.) So non-RSVPers are a little short sighted, since they don't seem to want to maximize their own enjoyment in the long run. Rational and sane players who have a good chance of attending RSVP a week early both here and at https://meetup.com/dcsoccer , the parent soccer group.

Sunday funday: let's play dodgeball at Scioto Audubon park
Dodgeball is back again!
If you’ve been wanting to come out, this is an easy one to join. We’ll be playing for about 1.5 to 2 hours, you do not need to bring any equipment, and no experience is needed.
We use a specific set of rules and equipment to make the games run better and keep them fun for everybody, not just people who already know how to play.
If it rains, the event will be canceled.
