The Dark Side of the Light Chasers
The Dark Side of the Light Chasers
Our shadow, or dark side, acts as a storehouse for the unacceptable aspects of our personality which we pretend don't exist. As a result we repress these negative personal qualities out of our awareness and into the unconscious which results in the blocking of our spiritual path. To successfully move along the spiritual path to higher states of consciousness the seeker must have the courage and will to identify, own and integrate the unfavorable aspects of their personality. This lecture will cover the insights and techniques needed to do this valuable and important spiritual work from a Jungian and Theosophical perspective. **Tony Petcopoulos** is a national lecturer and has been a member of the Theosophical society for fifty years. He has studied the ageless wisdom at the Theosophical headquarters at Adyar in India and attended the wisdom school at Krotona in the United States. Tony has studied Vipassana meditation under Goenka in India and Buddhism in the Himalayas under Buddhist Lamas. Tony is a retired Social Worker who worked for various state and federal government departments in their employee assistance programs. His main expertise focused on stress, burnout, and critical incident stress debriefing. At present he specialises in the techniques of how to open the heart and move into higher states of consciousness. **The MTS is committed to providing events that align with and further the three objects of The Theosophical Society:** * To form a nucleus of the universal brotherhood of humanity, without distinction of race, creed, sex, caste or colour. * To encourage the study of comparative religion, philosophy and science. * To investigate unexplained laws of nature and the powers latent in the human being. However this being stated, the MTS does not endorse any health, spiritual, science-related, philosophical or theological /other assertions or claims made by any facilitator we host.
How is it that you can Help kids or yourself to become a better student!
How is it that you can Help kids or yourself to become a better student!
Too many kids as well as teenagers and adults have problems with study. Today's meetup will inform you about the basics in STUDY TECHNOLOGY that provides an understanding of the basics of learning and supplies exact ways to overcome all the pitfalls one can encounter during study. This is applicable to young children, teenagers (or their parents that are trying to help them) and adults alike. Study Technology shows how one studies in order to comprehend a subject so one can apply it. Laws on which learning is based and workable methods have also been discovered for anyone to apply for themselves or when teaching others. Too many students graduate from school and college unable to put to use what they’ve learned in school. It’s not that they’re stupid or that their teachers didn’t know how to teach. More than likely it traces back to the one thing missing from most educations—learning how to learn in the first place. We all went to school, yet isn’t it odd that no one taught us how to study? The information presented at this meetup can help anyone improve others or his own ability to learn. It is a practical tool that parents and teachers alike can use to enhance a child's study performance. You’ll learn the barriers that lie between your own or a child's education. And you will very quickly learn how to overcome them. This technology will enable you or a child to pursue any subject with skill and confidence. Teachers who have "hard to handle/distributive " or slow learners in class will absolutely love the amazing turn around most often seen in improved behaviour and student performance in class. If you or your child has difficulties at school (or learning new things at work or online) than this meetup is important to you. If you can not make it to our meetup than contact the organizer and arrange it to suit your time. This technology can if one was to live far away be taught online. (extension course) You may offcourse also opt to have this technology taught to your own child by experienced volunteeer staff or learn about this yourself and transfer this knowledge to those you want to have better grades. Yes it is possible to improve anyone's study performance. All it takes is just 5 steps. See you at this meetup. Pam

Just one member's thoughts, "The fun/laughs factor is definitely a point of difference. We keep it moving with high standards so it’s a nice balance. Too strict makes it tense and boring, too loose and we can lose the energy/commercial feel. 🍽 Deep Dive Lunch: What action would you take if you had more courage?
🍽 Deep Dive Lunch: What action would you take if you had more courage?
**🍽 Deep Dive Lunch: What action would you take if you had more courage?** Most people have an idea of what they’d do if they had more courage. This lunch is a chance to explore that in a relaxed, small-group setting, across business, career, and life. Not theoretical. Not “one day”. Right now. 🔄 **Format** • Arrival + order food • First discussion round • Table rotation • Final reflections + wrap 💬 **How it works** We’ll break into small groups of 6–8 people per table. Each table will have a few guided prompts to help the conversation go deeper without forcing it. Then, you'll explore the topic together, sharing perspectives, experiences, and current situations. Halfway through, we rotate tables so you meet a new group and continue the conversation from a different angle. 🧭 **Ground rules, this is important** To keep the conversations valuable if you catch yourself or anyone doing the below. Call it out, don't stay silent. • Ask, "do you want my perspective on the topic?" before giving unscolicited advice • Listen completely before responding: ask "have you said all you want about to about that?" • No one person should speak more than 20% of the time • No pitching or selling: this is not the place for that • What’s shared stays in the group - Chatham House rules! This is about understanding and reflection, not impressing anyone. 👀 **Who this is for** • People building something, or thinking about it • Those open to honest, reflective conversation • Anyone who knows they might be holding back somewhere You don’t need to have it all figured out. You just need to be willing to think about it. **🔥Future Lunch Topics Coming Up...** 1. Deep Dive Lunch: Is taking action in 2026 wasted given global uncertaintity? 2. Deep Dive Lunch: What are you doing that feels productive but isn’t actually moving the needle? 3. Deep Dive Lunch: If you had to start 2026 again, what would you do differently? 4. Deep Dive Lunch: What’s the next uncomfortable step you know you should take?
Meditation and Discussion Group: The Laws of the Universe
Meditation and Discussion Group: The Laws of the Universe
Join Stephen Fiyalko, President of the Melbourne Theosophical Society for meditation, self attunement, study and discussion on the Laws of the Universe. We welcome all to join at 5:30pm for a 30 min Meditation and will begin the discussion group at 6:00pm. For those who prefer to just attend the discussion group you're welcome to arrive at 6pm. An understanding of and action within the Laws through our choices give practical tools for facing, managing and surmounting with confidence the many challenges we face in our daily lives, in society and the world itself. Ignorance of the Laws can leave us adrift to be buffeted and feel overwhelmed by stormy seas. Each week will look at one of the twelve Laws which are principles, not rules, seeking a deeper understanding of that Law, our and their inter-relationship with the other Laws. Discussion will involve sharing stories from our lives which contribute to a growing understanding and confidence in our lives. Each session is free, but donations are welcome.

Drunken Philosophy: What’s up with all the AI hate?
Drunken Philosophy: What’s up with all the AI hate?
**Welcome to Drunken Philosophy** a casual, curious social discussion **Optional topic for this meetup: What's up with all the AI hate?** A recent survey found that 74% of Americans have a negative view of AI, and I want to know why. Come out and debate whether AI is good or bad. My hot take: a labor-saving tool that could potentially help cure cancer gets called dangerous because it might raise unemployment or cause a speculative investment bubble, that tells you a lot more about capitalism and the economic system we live under than it does about the tool itself. As a computer programmer, I think AI is a wonderful tool that has increased my productivity by at least an order of magnitude. I'd go so far as to say Claude Code is the best tool I have ever used. Debate me and name a better one. Is AI potentially dangerous? Yes, but so are a lot of tools. Chainsaws. Steam engines (early ones would occasionally explode and kill everyone in the room). Do you think cavemen sat around debating whether fire could be used as a weapon or for self-harm, and decided not to discover it? I have two friends who hate AI for opposite reasons: one thinks it's a fad and not useful, and the other thinks it's going to take over everything and cause human extinction. Come out tonight, have a friendly debate, and make some friends. No lectures. Friendly crowd. Drop in for one drink and stay if it's fun.
