Postponed - Speed vs Capacity: Designing Data Systems for Real-Time Scale
Hello friends,
We hope you and your loved ones are safe.
Due to the current situation, we have decided to postpone our upcoming meetup, co-hosted with Start.io and contentsquare.
The safety and well-being of our community come first. We will share a new date as soon as possible and look forward to welcoming you when circumstances allow.
Thank you for your understanding, and please stay safe.
Best regards,
The Aerospike Team
###
***[IMPORTANT NOTICE registration is HERE](https://luma.com/53lk193a)***
Join **Aerospike, Start.io, and Contentsquare** for an evening of deep technical talks and peer-level discussion on the real trade-offs behind operating modern real-time systems in production - where tail latency, throughput predictability, scalability, and cost efficiency are constantly in tension.
This event will move past theory and into hard-earned production lessons: scaling beyond RAM constraints, migrating high-throughput workloads from Redis to Aerospike, designing architectures driven by real cloud cost models, and uncovering the non-obvious pitfalls of migrating real-time systems from AWS to GCP. Topics range from VPC architecture and traffic steering differences to NVMe and local SSD behavior, and why familiar operational playbooks often fail across clouds.
This event is designed for engineers and architects already running latency-sensitive, high-scale systems - where milliseconds matter, growth is relentless, and infrastructure decisions directly impact performance, reliability, and cost.
**Agenda**
**17:30 – 18:00 - Welcome drinks & networking**
**18:00 – 18:10 - Opening Remarks – Speed vs Capacity: Designing Data Systems for Real-Time Scale**
*Oshrat Ben-Avi Zabludovitz, Israel Country Manager, Aerospike *
**18:10 – 18:30 - Scaling Past RAM: Architecture Lessons from Our Redis-to-Aerospike Migration**
*Ilan Huchansky, Data Platform Team Leader, Start. io*
As Start.io scaled, our legacy Redis-based architecture for the user-profiles database reached significant operational limits, particularly during high-traffic periods, node failures, and scaling events. To maintain our strict performance SLAs while reducing operational overhead, we embarked on a search for a more robust, cost-effective NoSQL solution.
In this session, we will share the architectural lessons learned while evaluating the database landscape - including our comparisons with alternatives - and our ultimate migration to Aerospike’s Hybrid Memory Architecture. We’ll discuss how we moved past RAM constraints to achieve sub-millisecond performance at massive scale without compromising on availability or data consistency.
**18:30 – 18:50 - Boosting Cost Efficiency with Cost-Aware Architecture** *Doron Hoffman, Chief Architect, Contentsquare*
In this session, we explore the critical role of cost-aware architecture in achieving optimal cost efficiency for modern software systems. As organizations increasingly rely on cloud services, microservices, and distributed computing, understanding and managing costs becomes paramount. We’ll discuss the shift from traditional architecture to cost-aware design and examine how architectural decisions directly impact operational expenses.
Through a real-world example, we’ll share lessons learned from evaluating multiple cloud providers and their services using cost models and how rearchitecting with cost as a first-class concern made a measurable difference. Attendees will gain practical insights into designing cost-efficient systems that balance performance, scalability, and financial constraints, enabling more sustainable growth.
**18:50 – 19:10 - The Latency Leap: Hard Lessons in Migrating Real-Time Systems from AWS to GCP**
*David Gerchikov, Senior Software Engineer, Aerospike*
Moving a stable web application between clouds is challenging; migrating a high-throughput, real-time system is far more delicate. When heartbeats are measured in milliseconds, the “invisible” differences between AWS and GCP—from VPC architecture to NVMe and local SSD behavior—can determine whether a migration succeeds or fails. This session goes beyond basic service mapping to explore the real friction points of moving a real-time engine from AWS’s regional model to Google Cloud’s global fabric. We’ll cover networking and traffic-steering gotchas, why AWS operational playbooks often don’t translate, and how storage lifecycle constraints in GCP Local SSDs force changes in node management to preserve predictable performance and reliability.
**19:10 – 20:30 - Drinks & networking**
***IMPORTANT NOTICE - event is postponed***

Meetup #19: (yet another) Hardware and IoT Cybersecurity oriented meetup
**THIS EVENT IS LOOKING FOR A HOST AFTER THE ORIGINAL HOTS BACKED OFF FROM IT ON MARCH 2025. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HOST US - LET US KNOW, AND WE WILL SET THE EVENT DATE WITH YOU, EARLIER THAN THE DATE SET NOW WHICH IS A RANDOM PLACEHOLDER.**
For reasons beyond our understanding, after setting the meetup on the 24.3 (instead of having the Kernel debugging one then) due to GM's request, and postponing it in a week due to logistics issues at the host, the meetup will be postponed/rescheduled/moved.
**We had great backup plans, but they would require me to pay to host you, and I'm done doing that (+they were in another city).**
Anyways, GM say:
"Thanks for registering to our meetup!
Unfortunately, due to an unexpected logistic issue, we will not be able to hold the event as planned.
We hope to be able to hold it at a future time and update accordingly."
**I am sorry for the inconvenience and the disappointment. Trust me I am much more disappointed than you are, and it is time for you to get your companies to sponsor our meetup group on a yearly basis, so that no meetup will ever be cancelled or rescheduled again, ever.**
I am leaving the original text in tact, because this meetup will happen at another time.
\-\-\-\-\-
**Double registration alert:**
Registration is mandatory and \*will be checked\* so please make sure you RSVP here, and in addition register in You **absolutely** have to register in this link, and **carefully** read the event guidelines there. It is **IMPORTANT** and we want you, by all means, to avoid any inconveniences (due to being lazy and not reading what I wrote **CAREFULLY**)
**IMPORTANT: you can still submit a talk** \- and we are looking forward to your lightning talks\. I gave an example of what a good lightning talk is in the Toka meetup \(that we were unfortunately forbidden from publishing online\) \. [Use the CFP](https://docs.google.com/forms/d/11GQ-2_A39eyiyGywbocTfQzBflUJwr0-wMVyNxeGE_g/edit#response=ACYDBNjtFK3fNq435gUsZMp8vlvQYRBtiEDDGaDPa2KpwV8pY8AcT4RmaGYFD_G172uQRUE), Luke. And please do it before March 17th. If you do it after it you will happily be considered for the next events.
More updates will come, including a MANDATORY additional registration link. Do not unsubscribe from updates - if you don't read the updates or otherwise follow our community rules, you will meet the consequences.
Everyone, including everyone **MUST** RSVP to the meetup event, and when time comes - fill the registration note. Respect your hosts!
**AGENDA**
5:30PM-6:00PM **Gathering. Networking, High Fives, Hugs (Everyone @ Embedded Israel)**
6:00PM-6:15PM **Welcome notes: About Embedded Israel, community Building - Ron Munitz (Founder @ Embedded Israel)**
6:30PM - 7:00PM **Intro to Hardware Reverse Engineering -** **Dan Peled (Cyber Security Group Manager @ GM)**
In this talk, "Intro to Hardware Reverse Engineering," we’ll cover the basics of embedded systems, printed circuit boards (PCBs), and techniques to physically access and analyze hardware.
We’ll explore common components, debug interfaces, and basic hardware defenses. By the end, attendees will have the essential skills to reverse engineer simple embedded devices and identify debug interfaces.
7:00PM - 7:10PM **Networking break**
7:10PM - 7:40PM **Hacking HiSilicon Cameras for...Necessity (and hacking several million other devices while at it)** - **Ron Munitz (CoE @ The PSCG/PSCG Holdings LTD)**
In this talk I will present the taxonomy of adding remote debugging and OTA\-ing mechanisms to a popular COTS Security Camera device I have been working on for a while\, a little while ago\. The story starts with the why and how \(Design house not very responsive on SW development features\) remote debugging capabilities had to be updated\, continues with some of the techniques used to understand the firmware structure\, resulting in a self extracting archive that adds capabilities without the vendor support\, and ends with the understanding that the same techniques can be used to take over millions of other\, very similar devices\. The main takeaway of this talk is that there is a thin line between being a Linux hacker\, and being a hacker\, but other takeaways include understanding supply chain \(and time to market\) fl\[a\|o\]ws\, common Embedded Linux filesystem structures\, "security opportunities" when working with incompetent managers who experience their first Consumer device manufacturing and shipping\, and last but not least\, how the great nation of China can help you to PwN the masses as a by product\, just because "it's there"\.
7:40PM-8:15PM: **Pwn Without Own: Hacking $100K Gas Chromatograph Without Hardware** - **Vera Mens (Vulnerability Researcher @ Claroty/Team82)**
ICS/OT research is tough without access to rare, expensive equipment. In this talk, we’ll show how we reverse-engineered a $100K Gas Chromatograph, leveraging its Ethernet capability to explore remote attack vectors. By disassembling the firmware and mapping key components, we fully emulated the device, reconstructed internal structures, and decoded proprietary protocols—all without physical access. Oh, and found a RCE vulnerability of course :)
8:15PM - Until we are kicked out **Community Building / Lightning Talks / Networking**
We are looking forward to seeing you, and having more people participate. As (almost) always, if you have something great to talk about - I am happy to "give up my spot" for you. **And by all means, submit talks. Submit Lightning talks. Participate. Share the word. Have your organization sponsor the community - we are planning awesome things, and we want to always keep objective!**
Last words: Everyone, including everyone registers. No one unsubscribes from updates. Please don't test us.
See you soon!

We normally meet a few times a month during the week from 6-8pm. We will occasionally meet on weekends during daytime hours.
ServiceNow's Got Talent
Builders, creators, architects, admins, consultants - come one, come all. This one's for you.
We're bringing a little friendly competition to the Columbus ServiceNow community while highlighting the cool things people have built on the platform.
Five presenters will take the stage to showcase something they've built, solved, designed, or imagined on the ServiceNow platform - and a panel of judges (plus YOU, our amazing audience) will score them live.
So basically, America's Got Talent but make it ServiceNow's Got Talent.
Bring a notepad if you'd like 'cause you'll definitely be learning something new.
Each presenter gets 10 minutes max to wow the crowd with:
• A demo
• A real-world business solution
• A bold idea
• A UX transformation
• Or a creative use of the platform
Judging Criteria:
🏆 Business Value
🚀 Innovation
✨ User Experience
This event is about celebrating ideas, sharing knowledge, and showing how ServiceNow can drive both business impact and meaningful user value.
Come learn. Come support. Come get inspired.
Refreshments and bites will be provided.
And maybe next time… you’ll be on stage.
